Subject: Lyrics for Change of Season

Well, after spending an hour and a half on these, here is a copy of
the lyrics from A Change of Season. I think that everything is very
close to the lyrics, although I am not perfect. There are only a few
words that I am not sure about in the entire song. Anyway, here goes.

Change Of Seasons

* indicates that the version that I am taking the lyrisc from has this
line in a different background voice (very soft) I am not sure if Dances
of Eternity version contains these lines.

Times given in brackets are the start or end time of the section.
??? indicates that I am not sure of the word, or part of the world
(?) indicates that I think that this word is correct
there are also some notes given in brackets.

I remember a time [1:46]
my ????ed virgin mind.
Watch the crimson sunrise
imagine what in my mind [it might find on DoE]
Life was filled with wonder
I've felt the warm wind blow
I must explore the boundaries
tredged in the depths of winter snow
innoscence caressing me
I never felt so young before
there was so much life to see
yet I knew there must be more. [2:35]

But these days are gone now [2:42]
changed like a leaf on a tree
gone away forever
into the cool autumn breeze
the snow has now fallen
and I know where I stand
all of my childhood memories
left lying in the sand. [3:12]

In my gang(?) of in??egratity [3:25]
?????? sent delicacy
struggled to find the seam
struggled to ease the pain
and the rich(?) are rubbing me
I've never been so filled with fear
now I know that there is more
the warmth is gone
but the t????l forever healed [4:00]

*do you know what carpe diem is?
*Seize the day

I'll always remember [4:20]
the chill of November
the noose(?) of the fall
the sounds in the hall
the clock on the wall
ticking away
Seize the day
I heard him say
life will not always be this way
look around, and hear the sound
another time like this can't be found [5:10]

*life is too short to dwell on out tragedies
*what's the use of looking back
*what's the use of looking ahead
*today's the day

we can learn from the past [5:19]
but those days are gone

*we can hope for the future
*though there may not be one

words ??? ??? in the night [5:40]
the rest ??? to learn
I have seized the day
to home I return

preparing for the fight [6:20]
I have with all my might
here in my deepest fright
she walked into the night
she turned for one last look
she looked me in the eye
I said I love you
goodbye [6:39]

[short instrumental section]

Please don't go [6:55]

[long instrumental section]

[strange mumblings] [9:53]
So far so few between
my eyes filled full
with desire fulfilled
all my dreams come true
all the world
and all of you
everyday there's a constant reminder
with all the pleasures we shared together
love is not just a passing word
Is a state of heart that goes on forever

[this next section was not in my version, so this is from DoE]

I was blinded by a paradise [10:55]
you took me up high in the sky
the love there will ne'er come down
deep in sorrow, wandering faraway

[back to the origional]

I stood outside in the rain for us [11:20]
I tried to work out all of the pain for us
I sat alone and took the blame for us
my mind has torn and gone insane for us

innoscent sinner [11:45]
repeat offender
promisques promiser
faith lender
indecisive decessions
torn with heartless division
shattering all of my visions of love

all of the world, I give to you [12:59]
all of the world,
all of the world, I give to you
all of the world,

[long instrumental section] [13:25]

*children of yesterday, errors of tomorrow
*what do you mean, ladden of sorrow
*look to your loneliness again faster and faster
*???? with ???? prepared by the master.

[short instrumental section]

I'm much wiser now [17:30]
a lifetime of memories
run through my head
memories they taught me
for better or worse, alive or dead
I realize, there's no turning back
life goes on,
they all meet at 12 [not sure about this phrase]

[short instrumental section]

I sit down with my son [18:11]
can't you see the crimson sunset
he's my only one
now that my time has come
now that my day is done
looking into the sun he said
"don't go
don't go
please don't go
don't go
NOW
don't go"

[there are a few more don't go's in DoE version, but this is close]

* for the first time in a long time
* I felt at peace

[song ends at 19:33]

Hear hear! My NMS shirt was quite an item of discussion at the Pensacola Rush show last weekend, and I must have entertained a dozen questions about it from amazed Rush fans. A similar DT shirt would be fantastic.

> Also, it might be cool to modify a > quote like on the NMS shirt, "One likes to believe in the freedom of email". > Like, "You can find all you need in your terminal" (just kidding! But you get > the idea. . .). Anyway, keep posting those ideas.

I'll toss in my comments on the discussion so far....

An ash colored shirt would be fine (don't have anything against white or black, but the NMS shirts look great).

The design ideas so far all sound fine. I doubt if we could fit everyone's e-mail addresses into a design clearly and readably, and of course, there's the problem afterward of "Why isn't my address in there!?" and "Well, I just joined the list; will new shirts be issued after a while with updated addresses?"

Favorite quote is also "Let light surround you". Of course, with DT almost any lyrics are winners. I do not like the idea of "balls and chunk are where it's at" because a) it sounds too much like any other humdrum metal act, and b) it's a bit too obscure and would invite more questions than we might want to answer (believe me, after this past weekend and the NMS shirts, fewer things to answer at once is a Good Thing :)).

I wrote off and sent a check quite a while ago. "No response on any frequency, captain."

(Not sure if the check ever cleared; I don't think it did. I have the feeling they have been SWAMPED with mail.)

Hi there once more. I have a few slight corrections for ACOS from the lyrics that I posted aearlier.

1. (approx time 1:46) on the line: imagine what in my mind [it might find on DoE] should read: imagine what it might find (origional version is same as DoE)

2. (approx time 9:53) on the line: all my dreams come true should read: all my dreams came true

3. (approx time 12:59) after the last: all of the world add the following (this is on the origional, not on DoE) *Please don't go

Other than that, I think that everything is correct. Now for a question. After reading the lyrics, what do you think the song is about. I sorta see someone about to die (or be hung, see noose on the wall). He is telling his story to someone (maybe his son) (see I sit down with my son... now that my time has come; not that my day is done).

As far as his life goes, he is looking at how he did what he wanted, and he "seized the day" (I also think that the side lyrics that are not on DoE are important, and would be very surprised if they were not on the album release of the song, assuming that it will be on their next CD).

What do any of you think?

(also, if you want a copy of the complete corrected lyrics, please mail me, and I will send you a copy)

Agree. Those two and "Let the light surround you" are the best ones we've proposed.

Would be great if DT would do the off-the-record tab like was done with Led Zeppelin recently, though it was said Petrucci was doing the tabbing and not anyone else :( so it probably won't happen unless he arranges other parts for guitar.

How would you tab those keyboard bends, anyways?

Date: Tue, 1 Feb 94 00:23:50 -0800 From: Jason Hough <jason@jester.cts.com> Subject: T-Shirt update

Geeez! I sure didnt expect this much discussion... there is life after all! :)

Ok, so, the big question - what the hell is going to be on the shirts... ???

I have two things to say:

Obviously everyone wants something different on the shirt. I've got enough stuff to make about 20 different shirts as it is, and they all sound really cool. This is a problem though... I can't please everyone, and I can't put everyone's ideas on one shirt. So, basically, keep sending me ideas, I am saving everything, and by the end of this week I will make a decision and that will be that. I *may* come up with the best two designs and take a vote, but nothing more. I simply can't keep up with everything that I am being sent.

Secondly, someone suggested I talk to meg@syrinx.umd.edu about the NMS shirts. Could the person who posted that please contact Meg and find out if he/she would like to make our shirts as well? I am mostly interested in knowing the cost of printing some full color stuff on these shirts, since the person I was contacting said it would be difficult, look bad, and run the cost way up.

PLEASE keep in mind that cost is a factor here. Some people have mentioned that they wouldn't mind paying 25$ for a really nice shirt, and I totally agree. However, I recieved a lot of private messages asking for a decent shirt that won't break bank's, and I can relate to that. It is expensive to overlay even two different colors. It's best to keep them seperated... so I doubt there will be any "Dream Theater over the Majesty M symbol" or full color hearts with flames - once again not because it doesn't sound good, but because it would increase the cost because we'd have to do color seperations, etc. The key here is "keep it simple."

Thanks to everyone who is contributing ideas... I hope you all are smart enough to not take it personally if your idea is not used. :)

Thanks again,

Jason ytsejam-owner@bnf.com

ps. Nothing is set in stone, I'm just letting you all know where I'm at.

The problem is making sure it's not a recycled quote. I have all three of their shirts (heart/cattle brand, album cover/tour, and band pic/quote-sigs) and they use "Find all you need in your mind... if you take the time" on one of them. Let the Light is better. Mike

I really like this idea. Sorta like the quote from last year's Screaming In Digital t-shirt. (no-one can hear you my son when you are screaming in digital) Although it is from a song, it still is computer/email oriented.

Well, I don't have it, but I have heard the set list. The new songs are from Live In Long Island (same show, starts in the middle) and the Dominicci portion appears to be the same as that on Consciously Unreal.
