I think I am leaning toward a Red majesty logo on the front left breast
and "DREAM THEATER" in large DT font on the back.

    With the quote as above.

    About the "non-fan:"

Dream Theater is, and always will be, and band for musicians first, music
lovers second. Casual listeners will never understand how difficult
Myung's tapping section is in "Metropolis", the 9/8 time signature of
"Take the Time", Petrucci's solo in "Under a Glass Moon", Moore's guitar-like
keyboard work, Portnoy's amazing drum ability and James' voice...

And that's great... Let people swoon over Pearl Jam and Nirvana... We know
what *MUSICIANSHIP* is... 5 guys from NY (well, one from Canada).

    About "Eve:"

The song is perfoemed two ways, depending on when you saw Dream Theater live.
If you caught them on the first leg of their US tour, the song had "lyrics"
which is actually a poem, which is read at different parts throughout the
    song...

However, on the final leg of the US tour, "Eve" was moved to the encore
section of the show... The first song they play when they come back out.
This version has no lyrics, and is strictly an instrumental...

    Hi DT Fans!
Well someone asked for the Change of Season lyrics. Here they are as they
    were posted by Michael Burstin:

    >From: Michael Burstin <mikeb@cs.brandeis.edu>
To: Multiple recipients of list <ytsejam@bnf.com>
Subject: Lyrics for Change of Season
    Status: RO

Well, after spending an hour and a half on these, here is a copy of
the lyrics from A Change of Season. I think that everything is very
close to the lyrics, although I am not perfect. There are only a few
words that I am not sure about in the entire song. Anyway, here goes.

    Change Of Seasons

    * indicates that the version that I am taking the lyrisc from has this
line in a different background voice (very soft) I am not sure if Dances
of Eternity version contains these lines.

Times given in brackets are the start or end time of the section.
??? indicates that I am not sure of the word, or part of the world
(?) indicates that I think that this word is correct
there are also some notes given in brackets.

    I remember a time [1:46]
    my ????ed virgin mind.
    Watch the crimson sunrise
imagine what in my mind [it might find on DoE]
    Life was filled with wonder
I've felt the warm wind blow
    I must explore the boundaries
tredged in the depths of winter snow
    innoscence caressing me
I never felt so young before
there was so much life to see
yet I knew there must be more. [2:35]

But these days are gone now [2:42]
changed like a leaf on a tree
    gone away forever
    into the cool autumn breeze
    the snow has now fallen
and I know where I stand
    all of my childhood memories
left lying in the sand. [3:12]

In my gang(?) of in??egratity [3:25]
    ?????? sent delicacy
    struggled to find the seam
    struggled to ease the pain
and the rich(?) are rubbing me
I've never been so filled with fear
now I know that there is more
    the warmth is gone
but the t????l forever healed [4:00]

*do you know what carpe diem is?
    *Seize the day

    I'll always remember [4:20]
    the chill of November
    the noose(?) of the fall
    the sounds in the hall
    the clock on the wall
    ticking away
    Seize the day
    I heard him say
life will not always be this way
look around, and hear the sound
another time like this can't be found [5:10]

*life is too short to dwell on out tragedies
*what's the use of looking back
*what's the use of looking ahead
    *today's the day

we can learn from the past [5:19]
    but those days are gone

*we can hope for the future
*though there may not be one

    words ??? ??? in the night [5:40]
    the rest ??? to learn
    I have seized the day
    to home I return

    preparing for the fight [6:20]
I have with all my might
    here in my deepest fright
    she walked into the night
she turned for one last look
she looked me in the eye
    I said I love you
    goodbye [6:39]

    [short instrumental section]

    Please don't go [6:55]

    [long instrumental section]

    [strange mumblings] [9:53]
    So far so few between
    my eyes filled full
    with desire fulfilled
    all my dreams come true
    all the world
    and all of you
    everyday there's a constant reminder
with all the pleasures we shared together
love is not just a passing word
Is a state of heart that goes on forever

[this next section was not in my version, so this is from DoE]

    I was blinded by a paradise [10:55]
you took me up high in the sky
the love there will ne'er come down
    deep in sorrow, wandering faraway

    [back to the origional]

I stood outside in the rain for us [11:20]
I tried to work out all of the pain for us
I sat alone and took the blame for us
my mind has torn and gone insane for us

    innoscent sinner [11:45]
    repeat offender
    promisques promiser
    faith lender
    indecisive decessions
    torn with heartless division
shattering all of my visions of love

all of the world, I give to you [12:59]
    all of the world,
all of the world, I give to you
    all of the world,

    [long instrumental section] [13:25]

*children of yesterday, errors of tomorrow
*what do you mean, ladden of sorrow
*look to your loneliness again faster and faster
*???? with ???? prepared by the master.

    [short instrumental section]

    I'm much wiser now [17:30]
    a lifetime of memories
    run through my head
    memories they taught me
for better or worse, alive or dead
I realize, there's no turning back
    life goes on,
they all meet at 12 [not sure about this phrase]

    [short instrumental section]

I sit down with my son [18:11]
can't you see the crimson sunset
    he's my only one
now that my time has come
now that my day is done
looking into the sun he said
    "don't go
    don't go
    please don't go
    don't go
    NOW
    don't go"

[there are a few more don't go's in DoE version, but this is close]

    * for the first time in a long time
    * I felt at peace

    [song ends at 19:33]

And I thought DT fans were supposed to be opened minded. Asia, Kansas, Styx AND Def Leppard are all FINE bands. They might not be the type of music you like, but lets see you get up there and do better, chances are you wont even get the chance. As for the person's friend, YES, Dream Theater, as with all music, takes a few listens to get used to. I remember when I first got image and words, Pull Me Under was the only song I listened too. Only after forcing myself to listen to the rest of the album, did I start to like it. Please people, dont be so closed minded. Not every band can sound the way you like your music to sound, but be appreciative of each bands creativeness and style for making music. +Michael

I first heard about DTM while reading a Guitar for the Practicing Musician magazine... I saw the ad for their (self-titled) album and saw a phone number where I could call to hear free music... If any of you out there who haven't heard their album and want the number to preview it, let me know and I will dig it up and post it. It's completely toll free so no worries there.

    > powermad (i like these guys, give me your thoughts!)

I bought these guys' CD "Absolute Power"... It is tremendously excellent! I heard they made another album while they were still around, but I have yet to hear it. I placed an order at the local Sam Goody's but haven't heard anything about it yet (it's been several months so I assume that it's unavailable.. but who's to say? Sam Goody's isn't exactly the BEST music store in the world...)

I saw the video for Nice Dreams, which made me buy the CD... If any of you have a copy of this video let me know, I would like a copy!!! (The video is really cool and I saw it on the old Night Flight TV show which made it even cooler)

I would also like any TAB on these guys that anybody has...?

These guys sound cool. I'd like to hear them... any thoughts?

Today I finally got hold of the Dance of Eternity boot and I must say you all were right: it souds incredible (especially the drumsound). Great artwork too! (ofcourse my 2cd holder was broken...). The 20 minites epic 'A change of seasons' (never heard it before) is an outstanding piece of work.

Would anyone be so kind to mail me the lyrics of ACOS, Forever and Eve? Does anybody know where the voice samples of 'Eve' are taken from?

My vote on the shirt thing:

The majesty symbol on the front, 'Dream' above the sybol and 'Theater' (in red/yellow) below. On the back the glowing in the dark quote 'Let light surround you'(I really dislike the chunks quote) and our mail address beneath it. Colour of shirt:black (I can't think of any other suitable colour).

Maybe a suggestion: A long sleeve shirt (these are quite populair in the UK, do they have these in the States?) with the symbol and 'Dream Theater' written on the sleeves.

Last thing: If you like 'mellow' concept albums like Misplaced Childhood and The Wall, check out the new Marillion CD, called Brave. It has some great songs on it.

Hi there. I have been trying to upload the lyrics for A Change Of Season to the music archieves at cs.uwp.udu and I change into the /pub/music/incoming/lyrics directory and try to make a dir called dream.theater and it gives a problem, since there is already a link the the other DT directories, so I tried to make a dream.theater.lyrics directory, as well as a few others, and none of them will allow me to make a dir. I am not sure how to go about making a dir there, since it won't let me use the logical commands. Anyone out there able to give me a hint as to what to do?

Michael Burstin did them for the FAQW, which I have redone in several sections (FAQ, Discography, bootleg listing, and lyrics listing) and I'll post it as soon as I figure out how to remove all these goddamn MS-DOS ctrl-M characters fromthe end of each line! (grin)

Speaking of which, to all on the list: I find it's really hard to keep up all of these sections in good time and accurately. I was doing rather well with the discography before and I like doing the bootleg listing also, can anyone take over for the faql.dt and lyrics.dt files?

In the FAQ (I happened to be reading it again, looking for what's on Home Sweet Home), it says:

    >> 1.5 Andrea Held Leone and Ralph R. Dominici Sr. are mentioned in the liner notes to WDADU as the dedicants. What relation to the band are they? Anyone? <<

Well, I ASSUME that Ralph R. Dominici is Charles Dominici's father, relative, etc?

    Question:

Where is the best version of Only a Matter of Time? Is it on Live In Long Island: Home At Last or Classics Live or Home Sweet Home? I really like this song, and want to hear James doing the vocals. Which CD has the best quality of these three?

What I need is someone who has access to IRC, who would like to put a bot up on their system. I will supply all the files and the bot and the instructions, I just need an account to run it on so I can keep it up 24 hours a day. It wont take up that much room in case your worried about quota space, maybe 100k, possibly more if I include FAQ files in the robot. Someone e-mail me if interested.

Also: I need to know how to subscribe to the marillion mailing list and the hard rock list as well. Thanks in advance +Michael
