    Hi,
a question perhaps asked thousands of times before:
What is the sound-quality of the official DT video
    like???

I saw two tracks on HBB and the sound was extremely
    poor :-<
it was overloaded by bass and drums and Petrucci's
guitar sounded like straight out of the trashcan.

Has the whole video such a lack of sharpness in its
sounding or was it a matter of the HEADBBALL (or my
    stamp-like TV:-))?

    Any other great videos available??

Why are these abbreviations in the FAQ? I looked thru it for some
possible info on them, but there wasn't any. How disappointing! :)
Are these going to be the singles off the album or what? Fill
    us in, Mike!

BTW, shouldn't it be LSOAD rather than LSIAD?

    Hey,
Thought people might find this interesting. This months Metal
Edge has a section called "Gods of Thunder." It is a section paying
homage to great drummers. One of the drummers featured (of course) is
Mike Portnoy. There is no info about the new album in the short story
that acccompanies his picture. Which is sort of surprising if it really
is due out later this fall, most other bands with release dates set for
this year had their albums mentioned.
If people NEED a transcription of the article, I can probably do it
later this week when I have some time.

                            Later,
                                    Mark

just go with what sounds good. i mean, if i wanted to philosophize, i'd
be an NMS'er. and what's with all these sorry sounding boots? me, i prefer

We need to to get you two together and let you fight. There seems
like there would be a lot of things going up each others asses. Why
don't the both of you shut up, there are more important things in life
than fighting over a stupid post on a mailing list......

Sorry to brag about Psychotic Waltz again but since they opened for
Dream Theater in the past and Mike likes them then I'd think a few
posts would be quite justified. :) Anyways... PW broke up last year
but regrouped recently. Right now they are looking for a recording
label as well as playing gigs around San Diego (I have to check them
out in that new incarnation one of these days). I would be guessing
they have their material already written for the next album.
Fully agree about "Social Grace" - incredible album, very talented
band, wish they get more exposure in the future.

PS. For anybody in San Diego area - check out Superunloader (formerly
Bad Mood Zeus)! They're not progressive metal... a friend of mine
describes them as progressive blues (kinda progressive drumming),
very impressive musicianship, especially the guitar, intense live
    shows.

Um, between all these petty insults, are you trying to say that
sharps and flats do not relate to Dream Theater? I sincerely object.

First of all, thanx to all who helped to rain flaming death upon
that silly sausage from AOL with the egotistical handle "Godsize." The
    LITTLE prick deserved it.
For anyone who's got access to a color scanner, you guys might
want to check out the September 1993 issue of "Guitar For The Practicing
Musician" in "The Load Out" picture on p. 169. It's John P. backstage
with his rig and the "faces" guitar." He looks like an ad for
Mesa/Boogie. Most excellent pic. For all of you guitar nerds who can't
find this particular issue, here's a rundown of the equipment in his
    rack, top to bottom:

    - Mesa/Boogie sign on 1 sp. blank rack panel
    - ARIS Power Distribution Unit
    - Korg DT-1 Pro Tuner
    - Rocktron Hush IICX
    - Samson SR-22 wireless in Rackmount Kit
    - 2 sp. drawer with "JOHN PETRUCCI" on handle
    - 2 Mesa/Boogie TriAxis Preamps (2 sp.)
    - Lexicon PCM-70
    - TC Electronics 2290 Digital Delay (2 sp.)
    - Mesa/Boogie MIDI Matrix switching system (2 sp.)
    - TC Electronics 1220 Parametric EQ
    - 2 Mesa/Boogie Simul-Class 2: Ninety power amps (4 sp.)

Hope someone finds this info useful.

I just want to apologize for starting the war among all of you concerning
the sharps and flats. My original question stated:
            Zmaj 4 sharps
            Which sharps?!?

    I was humored at emoeglin@bigcat.missouri.edu 's .sig file so I thought I'd
respond, indicating that I was humored. It was a mistake to do this publicly,
and I've already been flamed for it, but also, no one saw that I WAS ONLY JOKING
IT WAS JUST A JOKE!! I expected an answer like F#, J#, P# and W# to continue
the humor. Obviously it was lost. I got a million responses saying FCGD sharps
. Thank you all, however, I am quite aware of the order of sharps and flats,
so we can all quit arguing about this now, huh? I have to admit, though, its
been a hell of a week. I've managed to ask all but one FAQ and get flamed for
it, and now I've started an internet war. I'm sitting back and laughing at
all of this. This is a lot of fun. I need more digests to subscribe to.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I do a metal show on WPTS (U of Pitt)
and if you or anyone you know is in a GOOD metal band, I welcome local and
unsigned material. No garage bands, no crap for quality recordings, and God
please, please, NO SEATTLE SHIT or equivalent. Other than that, I'm not real
particular. It can be progressive (like DT) or simple (like Crue). Maiden-ish
bands are my favorite. But if its like PJ, I'll kindly use your tape to
    record my DT boots on.

    Send to:

Feel free to spread the word.

People... lets cut down with the bullshit flaming here... both of
flameing AOL & of people posting about talking about music...

First off... there happen to be alot of awsome things about AOL...
Including some great sources for information... about DT, FW, and many
other bands... as well as some awsome sources for boots & trading...

Now, in reply to godsize... with his flames... Who the hell are you...
and why should we care what you say... you don't use your name, and you
are too scared to fill out a user profile on AOL...

Just getting tired or reading flames... If you want to talk about music,
but this flaming is getting OLD rather quickly...

Lets just get back to the reason why we subscribed...

(GODSIZE... CHANGE TO DIGEST FORMAT!!! KEEP THE BS DOWN JUST B/C YOU
CAN'T USE INTERNET CORRECTLY) (and yes, I am screaming)

A lot of people have been talking about where to get various
DT bootlegs and at what price, etc. IMHO, the best DT
(or progressive music in general) bootleg dealer is Ranjit
Padmanabhan. His mail-order business is run via email, and it
is very well maintined. He has most every DT bootleg made, as
well as ones from Rush, Yes, Galactic Cowboys, and Pink
    Floyd, among others.
If he doesn't have what you want, he'll order it for you. I've
purchased WDADU, DoE, and LitS from him with no problems
whatsoever, all at the lowest prices. The CDs usually take
no more than a week to ship, and it usually costs anywhere from
$1-$3 for shipping depending on the package.

His email address is ranjit@netcom.com if your interested.
