For all who have inquiring minds:
The time signature for the piano intro of WFS alternates; the first two
measures are 5/8, the third is 2/4 and so on.
Good day.

Some of you guys have been using some abbreviations i'm not familar with.
Like LiTS. Is this a Live in Toyko Single? And if so I'd love to get it.
I've seen their video. Could someone post a list of all the ones you use
a lot (except those mentioned in the faq, I know those.) Also, is the
release date for Awake really Oct 4th? I had heard August 15, now i'm
really disapointed. And does anyone know what songs will be on it?
Thanks,
William

I suppose I should do like the rest. I am eighteen and I will be going to
college in Appleton, Wisconsin in a month and a half. While I don't have a
clue what I'll be doing yet, right now I'm leaning towards comp-sci and
physics (nuclear and astro-). A friend turned me on to Dream Theatre a few
months ago; I'm not usually a big fan of "metal" bands (although i also love
Queensryche), but I was quite impressed by the band's remarkable proficiency
and the musical quality of their stuff, on a level far higher than most bands
out there today. Another friend heard me listening to _Images & Words_, and
offered to loan _When Dream and Day Unite_ to me (which made me QUITE happy,
since I had check at record stores and hadn't found there to be anything else
by DT). It turns out he's actually met them, and played as their warm up act
twice (Keith Arsenault, singer for Emissary). Well, I've babbled enough.

Sorry, but I don't think so...I've thought of virtually everything, and
that doesn't seem to fit th picture...what's your source? I'm not
flamming here, just sceptic. Later!

According to the circle of fifths, and the pattern of sharps and flats:
If the alphabet continued as notes progressed (Using Major Key Sig's) (i.e
A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, etc.) eventually the key of Z Major
would have 4 sharps.

Time sigs for most of WfS is:
(Intro, first "verse")
3 measures of 5/8, measure of 4/8, 3 measures of 6/8, measure of 4/8, repeat.
I think it repeats a total of four times.
the last time through, right before "She shuts the doors & lights" the
4/8 is replaced by another 6/8 measure.
THen, during "she shuts" part, it is all 6/8 beat, with the chord hits on
every third beat, making it feel like a 2/4 or 4/4 part, with each
"quarter" note being 3 beats.
there are 14 of the 6/8 measures repeated.
Then, it does 1 more repition of the 5-5-5-4-6-6-6-4 thingy, then changes
as James begins singing the second verse. THough the melody is similar
to the complex stuff, it is all 6/8 measures to the end of the singing,
when it repeats the 5-5-5-4-6-6-6-4 part until the end.
There. Isn't that simple ;)

where do these vids get the names? if you are buying these vids from
dealers, i would suggest getting them from people on this list (me,
mike burstin, etc) instead. between us we probably have lower gen
versions of all the dt vids than the dealers. dealers at shows usually
use shitty tapes and record mono, anyway. i have a second gen hifi version
of that san fran show, on a maxell hifi tape. hard to get any better than
that. a guy i trade with paid the dude to film that san fran show.
but, can anyone else offer up names that boot vids have been given, i
am interested now. i remember someone had a named version of the toronto
show. i also have a 2nd gen hifi version of that.
on another note, i just recorded the yes show tonight in dallas (7/30 and
started at 7:30, what a coincidence) and i got a SWEET recording of the
FM soundboard broadcast. (they broadcasted it at low power inside the
arena for people to listen to on headphones, what a mistake. FM walkman
with digital tuner + 20dB attenuation cable + sony pro stereo recorder
== sweet boot.) :)
we also filmed the yes show, and it is VERY good. anyone interested in
trading for any of this stuff email me, i need to get some new stuff :)

Actually, if my memory serves, it's 3 measures of 5/8, one 2/4, 3
of 6/8, one 2/4, then repeat and mix it up.

Uh oh, someone hasn't read the FAQ carefully. They don't like
being called Dream Theatre!!!
^^
I'd also like to point out that a lot of questions are being
asked lately that are IN THE FAQ. I believe that the first thing you get
when you subscribe lists th elocation of the FAQ and other material.
Please read this stuff BEFORE asking questions that are Frequenlty Asked
- that's what the FAQ is for! Thank you. :-)
