Well, I saw Steve on Friday and all I can say is *wow*. It was simply
amazing. All one has to do is get by the "Only the Young" and "Girl Can't
Help it". Steve does need time to warm up. After that he simply explodes.
And what I want to know is: What band played on the record? This was NOT
that band! Whoever said put the band in the background on the record should
be shot dead. You can see why Steve picked these guys. They just tore up
the stage. There were times you didn't even hear Steve's voice because they
were playing too loud. Lincoln is a madman on guitar.

This concert just solidifies my belief in that Steve has the greatest rock
    voice I've ever heard.

Only 2 "bad" things about the concert. One: They didn't spotlight the
bassist or drummer. Yes, they did that basic blues beat before "Lovin'
Touchin' Squeezin'" while Steve told a great story(Will someone explain it
to me? I'm too young to remember the Journey days. I think I got the
basic gist, though). The keyboardist(Paul Taylor, right?) always had his
thing right before every song, and Lincoln just played in his little ol'
world. :) He has a great solo during "Somewhere There's Hope". Second
thing I didn't like was their backup vocals. I think they sung too high.
At least for the Journey songs. Maybe that'll come with time.

One great thing was: There was no security! They let people right up to the
stage! I've never seen that before. Steve was shaking hands with people
during songs. Near the end, the whole front was just people standing there.
It gave the concert a more personal feel.

Ok. Storytime :) The women may like this one. Before all the people rushed
the stage, there was basically no one there. During, "I'll Be Alright
Without You"(The solo section) a girl rushed to the stage. Steve reached down
to shake her hand and she grabbed his arm and kept shaking it. He just
smiled at her. Finally, very happy, she let go and rushed back to her seat.
Halfway there, Steve sang "Was it something I said?". I've never seen someone
run so fast! She BOLTED back to the stage and shook his arm again. This
time she had a deathgrip on it. He just stood there smiling and shaking.
You could see him trying to free his arm, but knew he couldn't get it back.
Finally, he says "I think I'm in love". And he bent down and kissed her.
I don't think I've seen a happier person in my entire life.

All in all, a must-see concert! You'll come away with a whole new definition
    for the song "Faithfully".

Hi guys, more news and views from the UK.... I was gonna come in and write
this last night, as there's gonna be some pretty cool info coming up soon,
but Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey was on the box, so I had to stay in. I
never realised Steve Vai did so much of the soundtrack....

First off, my condolences to Jason and his family. To lose a relative is
always tragic, but to lose one that can relate to your music and your way
of life makes it doubly so. You'll be in my thoughts.

OK, here we go. I was at a killer gig last Thursday. It was The Almighty
supported by Warrior Soul (Who, incidentally, opened for DT when they
toured here at the end of last year) and before anyone asks, no, they're
neither of them progressive, they're just loud, tight and rock hard. But
I'm getting off the point. I was waiting for Warrior Soul to come on and
this paper airplane comes off the stage and lands at my friends feet. I
jokingly said "Hey, it's probably a back stage pass.", and he picked it
up. It turned out to be much better than a back stage pass (I'd met the
bands the night before, anyway), it was a DT promo flyer!!

Contained on this sheet of paper were magical phrases like "UK debut
single" and "To Live Forever". Basically, they're releasing Lie in the UK
tomorrow and included on the CD single is the studio cut of TLF, the live
cut of Another Day (I'm guessing this is the same one as is included on
some issues of LatM) and Eve. Well, they didn't actually mention Eve by
name, but it's a four track CD, and I don't think there's a MTV edit of
    Lie is there?

Also, the flyer mentioned there would be a limited edition vinyl 12 inch
of Lie including a poster version of the fanzine (I&W) and a previously
unreleased demo of Take the Time.

The concert was fucking great, but this made it a lot better :)

I'd really like to help you guys and gals out by sending you all copies,
hell, maybe then the radio stations would play some of DT's stuff, but I
really wouldn't know how to organise money, postage or anything. Not to
mention the 5 dissertations I've gotta write in the next few weeks. What I
WILL do, is go out and buy both releases tommorow or the day after and
then tell everyone how good they are :):):) I'm REALLY, REALLY sorry I
can't be more help, but I just haven't got the time or the experience.

Anyways, that's all I wanted to share with you. I hope I didn't bore you
all to death with my ramblings.

    Byee all,

    Matt.

I would have no problem with Derrik Sheridian staying on as the keyboardist for
DT. I think he would fit it perfectly. He's talented, enjoys playing w/ DT,
and a great guy. Anyone else share this opinion?

You can rest assured that this concert report contains absolutely
    *NO* spoilers because...

there was nothing to spoil. The concert was cancelled. The thing that
really bums me out was that I had a pair of backstage passes (much
appreciation to C-man for the passes, even though I wasn't able to use
them). I was really looking forward to talking with members of a band
that I knew enough about to say more than "Wow, you guys are incredible
    etc. etc. etc."

The flunky who refunded my tickets claimed he didn't know why the show
was cancelled, but my guess is low ticket sales -- probably because
they didn't even advertise the show (the only way I knew about it was
through the tour date schedule that was posted to the mailing list).
But if anybody downstream on the concert schedule has a chance to find
out for sure, I'd be interested in knowing. You also might let them
know that there is at least one *extremely* disappointed Ytsejammer
    here in Albuquerque...

    See ya,

    Jon

Well I have totalled the entries you sent in for my "Favorite Album Poll" and I would like to give a very special thank you to all that participated. To say the least I was very surprised at the results for a number of reasons: 1) There was a very wide varity of bands you chose. There were over 100 different bands I recieved votes for.

    2) Rush did not do as well on the poll as I had expected.

    3) Marillion did not appear at all.

    4) Mike Portnoy and John Myung beat out Neil Peart and Geddy Lee for the Drummer and Bassist positions.

All and all I am very pleased with the turn out. If you would like I could conduct a 10 greatest songs of all time poll because I forgot to include it in the albums poll. Just let me know if you are interested. Also my sincere regrets go out to Jason Hartman and his family.

So here are THE YTSE JAM'S TEN MOST FAVORITE ALBUMS OF ALL-TIME, THE YTSE JAM'S DREAM BAND, and THE ALBUMS THE YTSE JAM HATES THE MOST. Long title!

    Hi again folks.

Well tonight was the wake service or you may call it the viewing. It was very nice. I saw alot of relatives I have not seen in a long while. It was a big help to have all of them around. Tomorrow morning will be the funeral mass itself. I didn't get to play Eve like I planned but I didn't mention it to my mom and played it for her and she thought it was very nice.

Thanks again to all of you jammers! You really came through for me. I received at least 30 letters!!!

At the end I knelt by his casket to pay my respects and say a final prayer. With tears in my eyes, the last thing I said to him was....
