> 2) The amount of people they actually let in....Did anyone in
Malibu give a single fuck about fire codes....(Not that its
any different at any concert!) You see...I was up in front by
where Derek was....and as soon as the band started...I felt
shifting like you wouldnt believe... before you knew it,
Dickheads of all sizes and shapes started pits and began to
chimb up top and do some crowd riding...Now, there is a point
where thats fun...I can understand....but when it gets out of
hand...thats a different story....
Yea, the concerts in vancouver are like that. Everytime I go, I have to
watch my back. The security at concerts here has stepped up BIG time.
there's like 20 gaurds between the stage and the crowd. Its getting
rediculous, I love being upclose and all but not at the risk of getting
hurt. The pits are deadly now adays. I went to the Summer SHit festival
with metallica and suicidal tendancies and candlebox(horrible band) and
when ST came on, I coudln't even stay in the pit, it was pure hell. I'm
6'3 and I couldn't even stand in it.
----------3) The Jerkoffs moshing and crowd surfing!- I hated this aspect
twice!!!!! This is FUCKING DREAM THEATER!!!! Not Pantera!!!
I still cant understand why these baldheaded, flannel
wearing, Nirvana-slurping, alternative praying deuchebags
have to come to this show and procede to make it look like a
bush concert.
Yea, what can you expect though, its these little nerd-assed chicken
shits that are the target market for bands.
----------I wanted to watch Dream Theater, I was just
more fortunate than others to be right up front, WHY did I
have o be subject to that!!!! If it were an Anthrax or
Pantera Show I would understand......This I dont...I couldnt
help thinking that during the Medly when DT was doing Damage
Inc., when these little fucks were slamming, that they should
get a nice bullet in the skull and then I had to laugh it off
when Heart Of The Sunrise came, that they stood there
dumbfounded.....
I love it when that happens, alot of the little kids at the metallica
show, were confused as hell, "what in the world is creeping death?" or
"and justice for what?" STupid things like that, I mean, if your a fan
great, come out, but by all means, be familiar with the music. I
remember watching the DT live in Tokyo video, no one was moshing, just
standing there havin a good time. The Joe Satriani concert I attended a
couple years ago was also like that, very calm crowd, a few people had
tux's on.
--------- Im glad they dont have the musical
understanding to listen to Yes, thats one of the many things
I have that these fuckfaces dont!
It'd be great if they could sit down and actually listen to a song by
Yes or the Who. Will they, not really, most kids now a days will be
into this stuff by chance or fluke. I'm not just talking about
listening to the WHO's My generation or summertime Blue's.
---------4) The still consistent bitching by people about Derek, I bumped
into so many people complaining about Derek BEFORE and after
he got on stage....Come on give it a rest......Kevin Moore
left the group...hes gone...HE LEFT...so Fuck him!
yea, juet let it rest, I heard ACOS and the Elton John Covers, the dude
did a great job. Iron Maiden has the same problem too, Bruce left,
blaze sux, well, blaze don't suck and what it really boils down to is
personal opinion of who you like better. The excuse of, they suck cause
they left the band is bullshit and flimsy as hell.
- --------The band
- is got to go on for the better of the band...so find someone-
who will do the job....and I dont think any rice crispy
critic has earned the right to say whether Derek is the right
man! But I think Dream Theater has earned that right.....so
they decided and Im here to support the choice!
DT are the only dudes that have the right to say it, just accept what
they do and if you like it, great if not, oh well, your loss.

Holy fucking shit!!! I really didn't think that any experience could be
as cool as Thursday's, between the Con and the show. Well, I was dead
wrong! Friday's show at the Birch Hill was truly outstanding. I have a
lot of stuff to say, so I hope I can remember it all. After all, it is
6:00 on a Ytse morning.
First of all, I drove down with Skadz and Brian Wherry ("Pick a lane, you
leper!"). Two great guys. I sympathize with everyone that drove long
distances to be here. Hung out once again with Sir Bafu, Trey, Brendan,
Andy K, Mike B, Jai (MB's friend), et al. Finally got to meet Al B, the
half-naked-tape-guy, Elliott "E-Man" Kim, Itchak (sp?), Fred Block (Where
did you go???), Hairball, Syrinx, Pete Davis (Go A&M!), and others.
Skadz, Brian, and I were reflecting on something on the way home: We've
all known each other now for about two days, but we act like lifelong
friends. People opened up their homes and cars to people they have
never, ever met. The members of the Ytse Jam really came together like a
family reunited for the holidays. I'm astounded at how fucking cool
everybody is. Ken Bibb, you run the best mailing list in creation. No
other list could possibly hold a candle to the Jam. Jammers are the
coolest people in the world. I mean that sincerely.
So, we hung out at the Fantazia Diner. That was interesting. The
waitresses were kinda cool, but the manager was such a dick! I mean, we
brought him a shitload of business, and the fucking guy was telling us
not to walk around and stuff. I think Jay Peele had the best response to
the guy, though: "Okay, jerky." (BTW - Inferno's tape is really cool.)
On to the show. Quite possibly the most amazing live performance I've
ever witnessed. The guys were on! They opened with - get this - Puppies
on Acid into Take the Time! It was cool as hell! I won't post a whole
set list, but pleasant surprises include Learning to Live, Scarred, U2's
Bad (acoustic). James told us before ACoS that Mike wanted us to yell
"Please Don't Go" and "Mercy Fuck." We complied. :) James mentioned
us. Derek got a Ytsecon II shirt (from Bafu, I believe.) The place was
motherfucking packed. I felt like Augie felt at the Malibu. I got
shoved and pushed and sweated on and screamed at. Mike Bahr leaned on me
for a while (you're welcome. :) After a while, though, the crowd calmed
down enough that I wasn't worried about my safety anymore. Oh yeah -
Jordan Rudess (of the Dregs, according to the club's welcoming sign
thingie) and Rod Morgenstein (of Winger, according to the same sign)
kicked ass!
After the show - Derek came out to the bar and hung with us for a while.
That was way cool. I have so much respect for him after that. A true
gentleman. Then, a buttload of us got backstage passes. Me, Skadz,
Brian W, Bafu, Mike Bahr (duh), Trey, Brendan (Am I spelling that
right?), E-Man and others were all back there! James, John P, and Mike
were extrememly cool backstage. They were so personable, signed anything
and everything (Right, Skadz?), and bullshitted with us for a long time.
Truly professional, truly great. I thanked James for being so cool and
he said, "Well it would all mean nothing without you guys, eh?"
Coolness. I didn't see Derek backstage. I mean, he was there, but I
had already talked to him. Skadz, Brian, and I have decided that John M
is The Silent Man. I went up to him and said stupid typical
this-is-my-first-time-backstage shit like "John, I'm a bassist, and I
think you're great," which is pretty much what I said to everyone.
John sort of grunted. But he did sign two ticket stubs for me, so he's cool.
I just can't express strongly enough how cool all the other Jammers are.
I feel so fortunate to be a part of this list. I now consider you guys
close, personal friends, and would do anything for any of you. I'm still
in awe that we had never, ever met each other, and became great friends
like that. Trey, Bafu, Brendan, Skadz, Brian, Mike B, Jai, Andy K (king
of the Ytse frontier - you had to be there), E-Man, and everyone else -
you guys rock!
Everyone look out for really cool stuff coming to Trey's www page,
Skadz', mine (hopefully, if I get to the scanner), and others!!! Happy
New Year!

I am shocked and stunned that NO ONE on the 'jam who went to the Malibu
show took any major notice of the opening act; or is everyone still
trying to pick their collective jaws off of the floor.
None other than LI's own Rod Morgenstein and Jordan Rudess (does Dixie
Dregs ring a bell to anyone out there???? hello ?????)
Pretty intense work for material that was "put together last week in the
studio" if I remember Jordan's quote correctly :)
*plug*: Do yourselves a favor and pick up his solo album, "Listen"
(though it may be difficult to find), and listen to why he was the first
replacement for Kevin Moore (and wonder at why derek is DT's keyboardist).
This all reminds me of seeing echolyn open for DT last summer. Much like
that show, Rudess/Morgenstein sure gave DT a run for their money, as far
as I'm concerned. Thankfully, Scarred and ACOS saved them.
One last thought: Does anyone else out there feel a sense of
disappointment after the DT show when you start thinking of the songs
they DIDN'T play? I know it's tough when a band such as DT has tons of
material to choose from, but can only play two hours worth. Personally, I
would more than gladly trade in songs like Another Day, Surrounded,
LSOAD, Voices; to hear Erotomania, 6:00, CiaW, Metropolis, UaGM, LtL,
anything off WDADU, etc. in a live setting because to me, these songs
seem to go over a lot better.
Sorry about the rambling; I'm sure your new year's going to be a lot
better than mine,

howdy fellow 'Jammers,
after a 5-state, 4 hour drive from Virginia, the concert and the 4 hour
drive back home, i am exhausted. i'll try to be brief (i prefer boxers, as a
few may have seen when i attempted to remove my long-sleeve shirt that was
soaked in sweat).
in short, the concert was the best, worst and strangest i've ever attended.
good stuff:
- Jordan RubixCube and Rod MorgageMan were really good! as my friend said
after their set: "never again will i bash a glam band!"
- the guys in the front row yelling "where's Kip?!"
- ACOS and *Scared* live!! i can die happy now!
- electric Silent Man
- no solos (cat flames > /dev/null)
- they played Scarred!!
- meeting fellow 'Jammers. to the guy with the long black hair standing in
front/beside me for most of the show and who left after PMU: sorry i didn't
get yer name.
- LOTS of 'Jammers at the show. i wish i could have met more of you. next time
- shouting "please don't go" and "mercy fuck" (that hurt, d-man ;)
- no bruises, scars, sore muscles from the fuknuts trying to "mosh"
- sounded excellent and dead-on. decent mix except i thought James was a tad
bit too low (could've been my position in the club)
- kool ACOS shirts
bad stuff:
- the 2 hour wait in zero degrees Kelvin
- the fuknuts trying to "mosh"
- lots of PEOPLE at the show
- the fuknuts trying to "mosh"
- waiting 2 hours inside the club for Jordan and Rod to come on
- no left turns in NJ. how fukd up is that!
- i forgot my ear plugs. what was that?
weird stuff:
- the couple who had sex 3 songs into DT's set
- the drunk, short girl who was trying to get to the stage and propositioned
me for sex
as you can see, the good easily out-weighs the bad. i could write more, but
i'll wait and see what everyone else posts. i'm going back to sleep now.
good nite.
btw, we listened to ACOS over 9 times on the way home :)

What's up all,
I need to take my frustration out on somebody so I guess you'll have
to bare with me. I have been a fan on DT since I was 10 years old when I my
uncle just randomly picked an album off the shelve and bought it for me.
That album, subsequently, was When Dream and Day Unite. That's when I first
started to get into music and ever since then, DT has been my favorite band.
(Don't worry, there's a purpose to this story!) Im almost 17 now and i've
been trying to go to every single DT gig in the NY area since I was 10 -- But
i've never gotten in!! The only concert I was "old enough" to go to was the
one at the Manhattan center in 94'. This really pisses me off. Even at the
clubs where I had a fake ID, they just refused to let me in. I just tried
going to the gigs at Malibu and at CT and neither would let me in just
because they said I didn't look 18! Can someone please explain to me why
you have to be 18! I meen, you still can't drink if you're 18 so what's the
point? It's just so frustrating when I hear all you guys talking about how
great the concerts are. (Not that you should stop talking about them because
I somewhat enjoy hearing about them). But, don't I have a fuc*ing right to
be pissed as hell??? Well, the good news is that I'll only have to wait one
more year.
Anyone that has this same problem that I, do should email me and we can can
take our frustrations out on eachother!!
Later,

WOW Am I the first to post on the Birch Hill show?? Killer!!
Some memorable things: (good and bad)
GOOD Not so good
only 1 hour from my house froze my balls off for 1 1/2 hrs
got to met the legendary Mike Barr He was freezing his balls off too.
Got to meet a lot of jammers like Syrinx,
Jill (OY VEA!) etc. That asshole that worked for the club.
Cool opening act; Rod M. and the
keys from the Dixie Dreggs. How long they made us wait with
crappy music.
Got to finally check out Derek live
The fat, sweaty asshole bouncer who
stood in front of Derek the whole damn
time!
Played for 2 1/2 hrs!
Finally came on stage @ midnite!
Incredible set list, great transitions
between the songs, very energetic
They DIDN"T play "Surrounded" or
"Waits for Sleep"
All 5 played their hearts out, you
could tell that they were really
into it. Acoustically, too small of a
place for them. Most parts were
too loud to appreciate some really
technical parts
My hearing is slowly returning "WHAT"????!!!!!!
On a side note, did anyone else notice that it almost seemed like
the show was "Mike Portony LIVE" {with 4 guys on backup}. He sat 5 feet
above the rest of the band, and his (albeit impressive) drum kit took up
half of the stage!
Maybe I'm partial because I'm a drummer, but I think Mike was the
most passionate, exciting, and overall most impressive guy up there. My
guitarist friend {Hi Ryan} that went with me will disagree I'm sure.
(BIG Petrucci fan!)
Overall, though, a truly incredible experience!!!

Warning: The following DT message contains spoilers..but what the heck,
by the time you get this, the mini tour will be over anyways. :)
Dream Theater , New London 12-27-95.
REPORT
The ticket said that the doors opened at 8:00..after being assured that
we would be let in at 8:30, it suddenly started to get really cold.
..then, 2 hours later , at 10:00 they finally started letting people
in. Talk about complete bullsh*t.. This was it.. Anyways the first
band, Pleasure Crush, was kind of interesting.. There singer had a
decent voice, and the bass player had a good groove going, but overall
they were pretty mediocre. Dream Theater came on about 11:10pm with -
Under a Glass Moon - ...It really rocked.. ..Next came the Mirror which
inspired a few small pits, and overall was just a killer tune. Of
course it went into Lie (as it should always be). i belive next was a
whole medley of cover tunes...which included 'killers' from iron
maiden, and the full version of 'Damage, Inc.'..Petrucci made Kirk's
solo look like child's play. After that, James said something to the
effect of "I know that most of you came here tonight to especially hear
one song in particular, and here it is." ..and there it was. A Change
of Seasons..in all of its glory.. TRULY SPECTACULAR in too many ways to
mention. All of the double guitar/keys solos were fantastic....The rest
of the setlist was (in some kind of order).
* Lifting Shadows off a Dream - which included a really nice new blues
beginning!
* Surrounded..which was ok, except that they played the normal ending, and
not the **much improved** one as found on the LatM CD..i mean the nice long
resolution at the "Tonight I'll still be lying here surrounded...in all
the light. (resolution ..end chord)..not just end chord.
* Innocence Faded..- spectacular.. the end jam was enthralling.....
* Voices - Very good.
* The Silent man....The usual up until the end..last chorus when it turned
into the electric version! And James sang it up an octave..it was great.
* Pull me Under - always a crowd favorite.
Unfortunately, they had to stop before the encore due to the bar's
owners or something.. the remaining songs on the set were the acoustic
version of wait for sleep..and perfect strangers.
------------------------------
After the show, a few of us (and there were only about 8 people) waited
outside for the band to come out. Noticing the rented minivan with the
Jersey plates, we figured this must be their mini-tour van or
something...Sure enough they emerged looking very very beat at around
2am...I stood back at some people anxiously asked for things to be
autographed..and i felt kind of silling, and kind of like we were all
being really annoying or something....so after all was said and done, i
had a very nice 10 second exchange and handshake with one of my idols,
John Petrucci..What do you say to a guy like that without sounding like
Beavis and Butthead or something? (heh heh man..you rule! yea yea you
rule!) So in a moment of brain-shutdown i must have reverted back to
age 5, because as i shook his hand i just simply said "Hey John, you're
the best". and he actually cracked a very sincere looking smile and
said "thank you..thank you very much.".. i think i also told him to
"keep it up..and never stop" or something to that effect. Either way
it was pretty cool.. On a related note..during all of this autograph
signing, and talking, i overheard a conversation between Petrucci and
one of their managers..the manager was asking what more equipment that
they (DT) needed to begin rehearsing and recording the new material for
the next album!!! I head petrucci mention BearTracks, so hopefully this
means they will be working with the Images and Words producers.
So that about wraps it up..as always this show gets 4 ****'s out of 4!
Long live Dream Theater...

I'm sure there's already been plenty of comments on the Old Bridge show as I
have waited 24 hours for it to set in, but just have a few random comments.
I think I must was the most grateful fan to get in last night. One, because I
am only 17. I went to the extent of doing a computer printout of a fake date
of birth and patching it on my license. Second, I showed up without tix,
because Ticket Master screwed up my order. Anyway, my moment of glory came
after the guy believed my license DOB and I was able to give a confirmation
number for my ticket. I think it's safe to say I was going fucking nuts when
I finally got in. Besides the huge mass of people and the long wait to see
the show (12:15 AM), it was great. I was able to stand up on a railing and
get a good view.
Personal Highlights:
1.) Opening with The Mirror (I was commenting to my friends before the show
about how great an opener this would be and that they never use it. Sure
enough they did and I felt smart. :))
2.) Electric version of The Silent Man. Simply kicked ass. Can't wait to hear
it again if Mike or someone else puts it out on CD.
3.) Scarred. Great to finally hear it live, but unfortunate that the rumor
was going on during the whole wait outside before the show. I was half
expecting it the whole time. Would have been better if it took me by
surprise.
4.) When James said ACOS was made possible because of the folks on the
Internet and told us to shout "Please don't go". I felt good knowing
I was one of few in my section who knew what he was talking about.
I could go on, but I don't want these messages to be repetitive.
