As one of Warren's frequent and most scathing targets, cut him some slack. I
mean think about it. The poor boy has to have it tough out there in Oregon.
Lost about a year's interest on his $16 (i.e., the fan club). That interest
would of bought a beer or at least an asprin or two. It rains all the time in
Oregon (really). He's *old*. His parrot probably craps on his carpet. And, to
top it all off, I taunt the shit out of him. Kind of like pestering a bag lady
(easy target, feel guilty afterwards) but still its sooooo much fun. His blood
pressure must have 20 points allocated just to little ol' me.

But, in his favor, he has all those neat grunge groups out thar on the left
coast playing in those nice big spacious and roomy arenas and we have to suffer
along with DT playing in those damned small crowded clubs. Hehehehe......

Hmmmm. Gives new meaning to being a Ytsejammer, eh ??

    >> As many of you know all too well, things with the International Fan
    >> Club in New York have not been good for quite a while now.

No shit, Sherlock. Well, Warren bitched and moaned us all into submission and
finally got his money back. My turn. Waaaaah waaaaah fucking waaaaaah. Where
is MY check for $16 ?????? And, so far, I have lost almost *three* years (count
'em) interest which definately means that I am out a few beers.

Separately, I just got my Masters in music, and here are today's
recommendations. Since I am now a musical genius, you must take me seriously.
If anyone is into the harder sounds you would do yourself a big favor and get
Iced Earth's Burnt Offerings. Great stuff. And my second personality says: If
anyone is into acoustic jazz, check out Chick Corea's Friends. A couple of
throwaway songs in there, but they can really play. Steve Gadd on drums, Eddie
Gomez on bass, Joe Farrell on reeds and Corea on keys. "Cappucino" has got to
be my all time favorite song, period. First (and only) take when they recorded
it. Amazing. And tell me who has the chops.

Am kidding about that Masters. Berklee wouldn't let me in.

    Hey Jammers

Just wanted to mention that I recieved Timothy Pure's first album, _The Fabric
of Betrayal_ today, and it is really good. They are a five piece (standard
prog lineup) band that straddle prog and metal. They have their moments when
they sound a little like DT, but they have two things that really set them
apart: a broad range of tempos/song styles and great vocal harmonies. They
don't seem to be as technically proficient as DT (but then, who is?), but
they stay within themselves and don't make mistakes by trying to be something
    they're not.

Anyway, they might be band you want to check out. Their web page is at
http://www.mindspring.com/~isosrec/timpure.html. From there you can download
tunes and find some other info.

Listen you imbecile, don't do what Matt did and put words in my mouth. I didn't
refer to _all_ metal bands as wankers, just Megadeth. I once referred to
Pantera as a bunch of wankers, much to RipZero's dismay. So, I stopped
referring to Pantera as wankers out of courtesy. If you had read one of my
previous messages about this matter, you would know that I like some metal
bands. Megadeth is not one of them. Any band that refers to one of my favorite
band's music (Queensryche) as "music for pussies" does not deserve my attention,
time, or even bandwith for that matter, even if it's their opinion. So, I think

After nine months off this list I have returned to find petty squabling over Megadeth. The content of the list has severely deteriorated. None the less I feel I must add my feelings on the subject.

I am some what of a Megadeth fan, but mostly a Marty Friedman fan. That is wwhy I was at one of their shows. UnfortunatelyI was quite disappointed but their performance and especailly by Marty's solo, it was definately lacking intensity and substance. However when I spoke with Dave Ellefson shortly before Christmas he said that it was one of the last shows of the tour and they were all quite worn out and did not connect well on stage. But those are only excuses...

As for DT opening for MD, I surely hope not. Dave Mustaine is a tough guy to get along with, I don't think it would be a pleasurable experience for DT or DT's fans. Savatage already knows this after getting kicked off their tour with MD.

    Well, enough said.

    Nate.

I've got a question for classical guitarists who have seen DT live. In an interview with Bass Player magazine, (Jan/Feb '94) John Myung is described as "strictly a fingerstyle player". Is the term 'fingerstyle' being misused? I mean, does he pluck with his index and middle fingers, or does he do the classical guitar fingerstyle, using the thumb and first three fingers to pluck the string. I was always told that classical guitarists' plucking method was called fingerstyle. If thats how Myung plays, I want to experiment with it, because he plays damn fast. Thanks for your help. Feyd

Hmm.... Just some thing I thought of awhile ago ( like this evenin). What if DT were to release a compilation right now? What would you like to see on that. (OOps. Yes I know this a crappy thread kind of thing) , but still.... =) Here's my vote:

    1. Afterlife - I just had to put it here. I know how some of you think this is poppish, but it's a hidden prog thingy here =) I just love this song. 2. The Ones Who plaah plaah plaah. - weel you find somethind more DT on WDADU you caome and telll me

That's the end of my selection of WDADU. Actually I should've put more sngs from that songs in here (espesially since I've refound it throungh WDATU), but I didn't. Sorry =)

    3. Metropolis - Just had to be in there.

    4. Under a Glass Moon - Oh I don't know. I just like this.

    5. Learning to live - Have you ever heard a more positive song? I mean It lights the thirst of life in you again. Recommen- ded listening on your low points of life. Besides of being the most progresive song DT has ever made. Oh yes no PMU or TT. Even tho TTT has that awesome part of solo with KM and JP jamming in synch it's pretty pop. Same goes for PMU.

    6. Lie - Thje heavier side of DT. 7. Scarred - Still stayed true to their genre on that LP too =) 8 space-Dye Vest - The herald of KM breaking. Kinda different from DT's material, but still rocks !

9 ACOS - Was thjere any doubt ??????

So this is just sumtin I came up with.

Oh yes and I'm drunk =P No butter bootsies, just plain vodka =)

I just wanted to say a few words about the John Myung question.

I guess you could call what we classical guitarists do a "fingerstyle" technique, but I don't think of it that way. Well, that's not important, you want to know about bass players. :) What John meant was that he plays bass with his fingers, instead of with a pick (you all already know this).

You can achieve a lot of speed with your fingers, but it takes some practice. John probably uses his index and middle fingers most of the time, but he sneaks his ring finger in occasionally. As far as I know, bass players never use their thumbs, not in scale passages, that is. FYI, lute players do use their thumbs when playing scales. Specifically, they alternate between thumb and index. Classical guitarists also do it occasionally, it depends on the situation.

I'm sure a couple of bass players will reply (at least I hope they do) and we'll get their take as well. To the player who asked the question: you should experiment with a two finger style and a three finger style, i.e., alternating between i and m and i, m, and a (ring). You can't really go wrong either way, Jeff Berlin plays with two, as well as John Alderete (sp, RacerX), and Billy Sheehan uses three (I think he has even been known to use his pinky!).

    See ya, Scott Daugherty

Any one out there who can get me a audio cassette copy of this show? (preferably someone who has a tape deck that can record in Metal or High Bias w/ HX-PRO, but I'm not picky)

I went to the show, but I would like a copy. Please e-mail me if you can help. I can mail out audio cassettes, just let me know what length.

If you can't make a copy, is there a way I can borrow a copy from someone and mail in back? I'll reimburse for postage.

    Thanks in advance....

Neil, thanks for the info, but I have a few questions for you:

Where did you get a hold of this tape?

    How many songs?

What albums does "Ear Candy" sound like and overall sound of the songs?

    Thanks,

    Walter.
