Hey, y'all. Long time no post.

I was wondering if anyone out there could E-me a list of Dream Theater's full-length, EP, and single releases (the NON-BOOT items).

I currently own pretty much the basics:

When Dream And Day Unite Images And Words Live At The Marquee Awake The Silent Man - CD Single A Change Of Seasons

I know that there is a Lie - Cd Single and if anyone out there would be willing to part with theirs, let me know, and we'll work out a deal.

Does a Pull Me Under - CD Single exist? If so, what else is on it? What about Take The Time?

Okay, now for some non-DT content (sorry).

At the risk of being flamed to charred remains: Does anyone out there know of any BulletBoys stuff on the net? I need to download logos, pics, etc. I know they disbanded and stuff, but, hey, I still dig 'em. Does anybody know what they are doing now? I'm also looking for stuff on Brother Cane, Dokken and Mr. Big.

Speaking of Mr. Big, in reference to a question found earlier on the Jam - this CD, IMO, rates about third out of the four - 1) Mr. Big, 2) Lean Into It, 3) Hey Man, and 4) Bump Ahead. I, too, used to be a huge Mr. Big fan (one word, Paul Gilbert: Racer-X). But, the same thing killed them that put down bands like Extreme and Queensryche, as far as the general public goes - ballads. "To be with you", "More than words" and "Silent Lucidity" (granted, a classic track) gave the general public the idea that those indicated what those bands were about. Everyone liked those songs, but didn't care for the bands. Examples: A radio station in Texas pronouncing Queensryche as Queens-ri-shay - freakin' moron. A radio station here in Arizona after playing "More Than Words" announced the artists as 'the brothers Bettencourt'. I mean, if radio stations are that ignorant, then imagine what the masses are thinking. That's why I plead with DT - DON'T RELEASE ANYTHING THAT CAN BE CONSTRUED AS A BALLAD!!! I love everything DT does, but I don't want everyone out there in "Dream-who?"-land to encourage the radio stations and MTV to promote DT as another Warrant or Nelson - man, I should be SHOT for even thinking such a thing. I prefer DT just the way they are - exposed to only those of us who are musically inclined enough to appreciate them for who and what they truly are.

Sorry about the tangent - I get carried away sometimes.

    God bless Dream Theater.

Can't wait for King's X "Ear Candy" - Galactic Cowboys "Machine Fish" rules. 'Nuff said.

    Steve from Tucson syoung@primenet.com

"Jack Frost nippin' at your nose, Mr. Petersen?" - Woody Boyd "Yep, now let's get Joe Beer nippin' at my liver, okay?" - Norm Petersen (Cheers episode on TV in the other room as I type)

I have one question about WDATU... I know someone cleared up the whole Moonbubbles/ Showdown thing a while back... is it that Moonbubbles isn't in WDATU at all? could he/she please e-mail me privately and explain the whole thing please?

Ont to other things... have any of you heard of Jennifer Batten? She plays guitar for Mikey Jackson on his tours and has a real spoofy hairdo...anyways, she did a clinic down here in Panama (in case you didn't know, that's considered a miracle here) and boy can that woman shred! She does all that 8-finger tapping stuff...I've practiced more guitar these last couple of days than in th last year... she inspired me that much...

Why isn't DT more popular than they are? Here's my opinion. I'll bet that most of the people who listen to DT and bands like them are musicians. If not most, then a lot more than the average band. I know that I started listening to them when a friend of mine (we're both guitarists) told me how great JP was. Being a guitar player, I tend to look for good guitar music to listen to (That isn't all I listen to, though). I'm sure the keyboardists on the Jam love Derek's and Kevin's musical talent, etc. This appreciation for good musical talent makes the music so much better to me. People who do not play a musical instrument may not take that into consideration. When they listen to it, they may write it off as nothing more than hair metal (ugh), where as we musicians see it as so much more. Does that make any sense, piss anybody off, etc?

Maybe some of you can help this fellow Ytsejammer out. I'm looking for audio tape bootlegs of the following: Birch Hill (because there is so much written about it), Instrumental (I and II), WDATU, Acoustic Dreams (is that what it's called?). In trade, I've got various audio and video bootlegs of Megadeth, Metallica, some DT, Warrant, Crue, Ozzy, Aerosmith (another great band with a great JP guitarist. BTW...my mom knows Joe Perry's mom>>.no I'm not kidding). If anybody can help me, e-mail me at jdecoste@students.wisc.edu

I have a great Metropolis TAB. COMPLETE! If there is enough interest, and enough time over here, I'll post it. Let me know.

    Thanks,

    Jeff DMR

Whoa! You mean I'm not the only one that got irritated the first time he heard that snare on ACOS??? I remember ripping the CD out of the case brand new, sitting in my car in the record store parking lot, jamming it into the CD player...a few minutes went by, I dug the intro..then it happened...I started tweaking all the little digital settings on my CD player as my girlfreind looked on curiously, then it dawned on me. It's not the damn Cd player...he actually let them mix it that way! Fortunately since then I've gotten used to it, and I don't mind it as much. It's actually kind of cool in places, but I definitely like the AWAKE and I&W snares MUCH better.

For those of you > not familiar with lane, he is THE fastest picker I have EVER heard; and > the cleanest I might add!!

Speaking of Shawn Lane, does anyone know anything about an Ibanez "concert" that took place in '94 (or was it '95?) featuring Lane, Joe Satriani, Reb Beach, and I think Paul Gilbert and a few other Ibanez players in a mega-guitar extravaganza? Was this event ever recorded? Was Brian Cox in the audience with a mic-strapped bandana? I saw ads for it in guitar magazines everywhere for months on end. Anyone?

Speaking of Reb Beach and Paul Gilbert, does anyone on this list have any boots of live performances of either of these guys? (other than Live Extreme Volume I and II) I've heard Gilbert's clinics are very casual. He walks out in shorts and a t-shirt with his visually-painful nastily-hued cream-blue guitar with the hot-pink f-holes. From there he greets the crowd, cracks a joke, sits down cross-legged in the middle of the stage and proceeds to knock the socks off of every string-stroker for fifty miles.

Thanks to anyone with any info. Time to go bring da muthafuckin' ruckass...

You know you're a DT fan when at home during spring break you use an online service to read the 'Jam. CompuServe was in a pain in the arse, and when I connected to my university's system (long distance), I got all these weird equal signs and numbers when I sent my message (long distance runaround?). I tried using AOL, and it wouldn't send my messages. So, this message was typed on AOL and will hopefully be sent by CompuServe. Sheesh.

    >Right on! That pisses me off too. Ben is the leader of the younger generation >of Ytsejammers. I thought he was older for a while, but then someone told me >he was 14 and I was liek Holy Shit. Now I picture him as someone totally >different, but I have even more respct for him. Does that mean we should refer to to you guys as Master Laussade, Master Carroll, and Master RipZero?

    >And me friend (God forgive him) ordered Hootie and the Blowfish and he got >Bootsie Collins! Sheesh

Bootsy Collins rocks! Check out his albums with Parliament, James Brown, and especially Maceo Parker. He's one bad mutha on the bass!

    >Sorry. I'm a little hot-headed and don't take too kindly to being called an >embicile. (And I just love to use the word fucknut!). I respect your opinion >and appriciate that you respect mine. That's what we need a little of on the >jam. Respect. There's not much of that anymore. Anyway, I hope we can make >amends too. I hate having Ytse-Enemies. Friends?

Friends? I think Seinfeld is funnier. Anyway, I'm glad we're on good terms. Hopefully the period of "Ytse-bitchiness" is over. BTW, what exactly did you do during your great weekend without drugs or alcohol? I don't do drugs or drink (I'm legal, BTW), and I think it's refreshing to see people having a good time without the influence of these mind-altering substances.

    >The only problem with cd clubs is that I keep getting "Out of Stock" or >"No longer avaliable".

Hey Pat, maybe Al Balkewicz works at BMG! As for my BMG experience, I ordered the James Brown "Star Time" boxed set. I received it, and it was shrink-wrapped and brand-spankin' new. It wasn't until later that I found out something was wrong. I was listening to Disc 3 when all the music seemed vaguely familiar. I looked at Disc 3's jewelbox and Disc 1's jewelbox, and the track listings were different. I then checked the actual, physical CD and discovered that it was actually Disc 1! I had received two Disc 1's. Needless to say, I wasn't a happy camper. However, the B.B. King, Miles Davis, and Led Zeppelin boxed sets I have received were alright. Go figure.

    >hall of fame- i thought yes was already in the hof. i could've sworn i heard >it mentioned.

Hmmmmm...I don't remember Yes being inducted or playing in the annual post-Induction jam. I'll check when I go there this weekend.

    >MAYBE the only hope there would be maybe rush, and they'd probably induct >them for an album like "roll the bones."

Roll The Bones is one of my favorite Rush albums. It's the one that got me started on Rush, and then I worked my way backwards and discovered the Fear Trilogy, Cygnus, Xanadu, some guy named By-Tor, and the harsh reality of going bald. RTB has three Canadian white guys attempting funk: Koba, you of all people should be able to appreciate that! I don't believe bands are inducted on the basis of individual albums anyway. Besides, the Rush catalogue as a whole more than speaks for itself. One more Rush note: I just watched a video bootleg of them in Auburn Hills, Michigan (3/22/94) from the Counterparts tour. This was pro shot, and it absolutely rocks (in a progressive kind of way)! Looks like I'll be parting with 50 big ones for Mike Bahr's Rush project.

    >The point? There are rules that you have to learn, but to be truly creative >you have to eventually break them.

Exactly. Eddie Van Halen once said, "the one thing Dr. Fischer [professor of a scoring and arranging class EVH took in jr. college at Pasadena City] taught me was to forget the rules. If it sounds good, it is good".

    >DTC: On Space-Dye Vest there is a soundbite that goes like this. "In >houston or something they say that it's 180 degrees but it's a dry heat." >Where is this from? It sounds like something I would hear on Comedy >Centeral at three in the morning. Hey, It would cure my insomnia.

Hey! My favorite show is on at that time on Comedy Central, it's called Mystery Science Theater 3000. Rush thanked them on the liner notes to "Counterparts", and besides references to Rush, there have been references to Yes and King Crimson.

Oh no! I've got movie sign!

I read an interesting article in the Mar. 1996 issue of U.S. Rocker. I thought I'd post, since most of you would probably be interested. Here goes:

What Ever Happened to Music Videos?

Joey Belladonna, currently touring in support of his Mausoleum Records debut, Belladonna, is crusading to bring "Headbanger's Ball" back to MTV. He's been circulating a petition for fans to sign in hopes that it'll prove to MTV that there's still a healthy interest in heavy metal. According to a recent article in Spin ["Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow" Vol. 11, #11, Feb. 1996] which primarily targets 'hard rock glam bands' like Skid Row, Poison, (you get the idea), an industry insider was quoted: "'Anthrax is touring clubs in a van to try and reconnect...' 'Megadeth's last album was a complete dog. That formula is dead. We've all walked away from it.'" (Aren't we confusing two genres of music here??) "[Glam-rock] was a totally different thing," says Belladonna. "I was never really fond of that kind of thing." Belladonna believes that the entire music industry has become a bunch of elitist taste-makers. "Theres's so much negativity right now with the metal thing and how music has changed so much. I love doing what I do, so I disregard it." Nowadays, MTV rarely plays any music videos--just 'programming-type' shows like Real World, Singled Out and various 'fashion' segments. "Yeah right," he agreed. "If anything, I'm just stirring up some controversy. If we were to give up on heavy metal, then people would really think it's dead."

Comments? Criticism? In the same issue, there was an interview of a band that I went to high school with. Pretty uncanny.

    Sincerely,

    G. Jack Thetgyi

I belong to a movie enthusiast group and we have a sort of movie library (actually it's a trade net, but it works like a library). The idea is this: LET'S START A _YTSE PROG_ LIBRARY!!! Reason: Every once in a while someone recommends some CD to others in the 'jam. Many of these CDs are hard or virtually impossible to get hands on (esp. outside the U.S.) and everyone doesn't have a credit card or the will to pay extra money to their bank just to get an international money order done. The library is basically a big list of various person's CD lists, which is open for dubbing requests. Everyone who gives their list to the librarian (the one who collects the CD lists and merges them together), gets the right to send dubbing requests to other library members and is in turn obligated to dub something for the other member. The library, of course, must be located in a place where everyone can access it. No money is used. If the trade takes place within the U.S. the members use SASEs and if the trade is international, the members use international reply coupons to cover the postages. Ups: This might be the easiest way for people to introduce themselves to cool bands and broaden their musical field of experience in a relatively cheap way. As time goes by, nearly every disc anyone ever mentions on the 'jam can be found in the library. Downs: These kinds of libraries tend to allure some bad traders, but the bigger the library gets, the worse name a bad trader will have and in the end the baddie can be sure no one ever trades anything with him (Hi Al B!) or her (Hi Sue M!). To the ones who think this as some sort of piracy, I can tell you by experience that on the contrary of what one could think, this increases the CD sales. People tend to prefer "real things" over tape copies. At least it worked that way in the movie library. I am willing to volunteer to be the librarian. If this idea gets any wind, I'll post the details later on. Any comments, suggestions and such? Email me personally or in the jam. Mape .no sig here. Uh huh, no way. Sigs are banned. Ask anyone.
