Or Alanis Morrissette! EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! I thought Sinead O'Connor had an
    irritating
voice until I heard this poor waif.

However, she *did* slag MTv in her acceptance speech, and that's all right
    with me.
I hate MTv, but to its credit that's where I saw the video for "Pull Me
    Under", the
first time, and subsequently bought the album (TV was on at a friend's
    house). I just
remember the days when they would NEVER play commercials, like (thinks HARD)
    1984, I
guess, when it first came to Oklahoma City. Now it's all commercials, no
    fun, and the
videos are unfortunately forced to conform to the standards of MTv, which
    sucks. A
Christian video I liked ("666" by DeGarmo & Key) would get played on the
    Christian
video show that TBN had, I forget what that was called, but the artists had
    to cut it
to fit MTv's liking. (A shot of a guy on fire, it was fine for the
    Christian people
I suppose because it was supposed to be Hell, but not okay for regular
    circulation.)

But what did y'all think of KISS? I missed that part.

I'm going to resist further comment on this Metallica thing and move on...

Shadow Gallery sounds like Queensryche? Hmmm....I've only got "Carved In Stone," but I sure wouldn't say that they sounded too much like Queensryche on that one. I think it's a hell of a record....right now, I think I'm liking it more than the Cairo record, but I haven't had the Cairo record as long, so I'm gonna hold off on a comparative judgement. Shadow Gallery, though, seems to be one of the best of this wave of prog bands. They've really put it together, I'd say....I think they've got some idea of how they want to sound at this point.

I like the Cairo record an awful lot, though, too. It isn't really a Dream Theater/Fates Warning/Queensryche sounding record. It's more like Marillion or Camel or ELP in that they're a lot more keyboard-driven, as a lot of people have pointed out. Still, they've got a good balance of aggression and melody, and it's a record that grows on you.

The Alice In Chains record seems pretty impressive to me. I remember the show getting a lukewarm reception by a lot of people (I still haven't seen it), but the record REALLY works. I mean, they've got some good material to play. I'm disappointed that "Am I Inside" wasn't on the record, but that issue aside, I'd recommend it to a fan of the band.

Well, now that I think about it, it is rather odd that I got this with no EOJ's, and with pretty much completely avoiding the Metallica and VanHalen discussions that were going on. I wasn't even trying for it, either. Hmm. I played part of Working Man for a friend of mine who pretty much hatesmost prog (calls DT glam - the jerk), and he was really surprised when I told them that it was a Rush trib., and that it was Sebastian Bach singing on the title track (all he pretty much knows of Skid Row is 18 & Life/Youth Gone Wild). He still wasn't too keen on JL's vox, though (this dude's into hard core stuff mostly). Oh well, I'll keep trying on him. Later, guys.

Maybe it's up to *us* to convince EastWest that a 2CD *would* be the way to go !!! :-) If the guys themselves want the next album to be a double, they must have enough quality stuff to use for it... If they *do*, *I* wanna have it !!! Are you guys with me on this ? :-D

I just got 'Test For Echo' today :-) (on it's release date, of course) The songs are cool, as usual... But personally, I like Counterparts better (way better)... Maybe I'll just have to listen to it some more... As in *all day long* (loud!) Oh yeah, I *LOVE* the artwork :-) The picture that goes with "Resist" is my favourite one, right now. >>>I saw ELP in the mid 70's, exploding synthesizer and all. I heard that before the age of the synthesized keyboard, Keith used to stab his analog organ to get it to short out and produce wild sounds. So it's true: that damn rock music does cause kids to be violent!! :) Time to go stab me a few twinkies, hehe...

KE began his keyboard experimentation at least as early as The Nice. Beside his use of knives, he did, and still does, toss the smaller of his Hammonds (model L-100, I don't think he uses his larger 3C(s), they usually have keyboards piled on top) about onstage to use the mechanical reverb spring as an added *special effect*.

I've also read of an incident about Rick Wakeman and his short stint with the Strawbs, before Yes. During the show, he accidently tossed the organ off the stage. The audience thought it was part of the show!

This is pretty damn exciting stuff! As was mentioned in an earlier jam, they're doing the Bay Area (where I am) on October 11th....I'm waiting with baited breath, man. Two of the best shows I've seen are Satriani with Stevie Salas and Eric Johnson with Sara Hickman. Of course, the one show most like this one was the Satch/Johnson/Riverdogs show. And I don't mean to knock the Riverdogs, a decent band, but Vai is out of this world. And, of course, you can hear his influence on our beloved Petrucci here and there ("Under A Glass Moon").
