Well./..i have heard kevin's material, and it is definately not
techno..techno (at least here in PR) is what people dance at
clubs...dance music, but really fast ones almost like rave but not quite
as violent..and kevins music is definately not like that..its hard to
define his music, even more when you havent heard it.. the industrial
part i understand.. but it is not solely industrial... first listen to
it ..then judge.. (not a flame)

4/4 also dt has some songs that are less than 7 min... i guess the guy
who wrote that went to an extreme..still it was fun to read..

Wow, DT taking an adventure into techno. That would be most interesting. I'd
buy it in a heartbeat. Not that I +love+ techno, but I do *like* some of it.
And yes, to me, a lot of it is crap, but then again, I think a lot of
progressive is crap, a lot of classical is crap, a lot of jazz is crap,....
and so on. It's just a matter of sifting through and finding what you
prefer, regardless of the genre it's been labeled as belonging to.

And if anybody here feels daring, and might like to explore a bit of
user-friendly techno, here's a little list of my suggestions:

    Meat Beat Manifesto: 99%; Satyricon;
Future Sound of London: Lifeforms (the 2 CD set, not the EP. But the EP is cool)
The Prodigy: Music for the Jilted Generation (lots of rock influence)
Opus III: Mind Fruit; Guru Mother

If anybody wants sound clips emailed to them, lemme know.

    Keep an open mind......

    Greetings-
To the person who asked about Nola by Down (featuring phil anselmo
from pantera and One of the members of COC) I highly recommend it. It is
just as I imagined it, COC with Phil singing. Well, actually there is a
diversity of material on it, and I feel it's all good stuff. Lots of pot
refrences, but, hey, that's ok. If you get it let me know what you think!!!

Thanks to Neil for setting me up with a little Superior. I'm still not
through it's entirety, but so far I'm getting into it. It's got the
European metal feel to it, which I dig, and it's nice and chunky, and the
instrumental work is very good too. Let me listen to it for a few more
times, and I'll get back to the jam.

    Just keeping you all updated.

Hey, anyone know of any more new releases besides the ones I'm listing??

10/1 - Tool, Crash Test Dummies
    10/15 - Phish

Hey all...I normally don't post...I just sit in a corner and watch. :) But,
I had just recently got a bootleg called "Caught In A Web", and all it says
is Live USA '94...and I was wondering if anyone had any information on where
exactly in the USA it was recorded, or if it was from different shows. Any
info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

From what people have told me about mine, it is (my tactic is to try
and confuse people into frustration so they end up looking like idiots,
and I come out the winner - I actually learned that in my college debate
class - BSing is also a key tool, though it does help to know a little
about what you're talking about :).

    >Well, I realy don't care about ALTERNATIVE.

    >a much better place to live.
Okay piss ant, that's it. That has got to be the most lame-assed post
by anyone yet (I even respect Mindcrimer's opinions more than this).
I'm not one to flame, but you have crossed the line here. Suicide
(yeah, going back to this one) is never a good thing. I don't care if
the given person is the biggest idiot in the world, this isn't something
to be glad about. You probably have no friggin' clue what's going on
here. I personally don't like Nirvana much, and think Cobain is/was
overrated, but I will never be glad anyone killed themself. I have lost
friends to suicide, and it was most definitely NOT a good thing. Heck,
I'd even think it'd suck if the dude from Oasis did the same. You must
just be begging for attention. I doubt you're really even that sincere
about your opinions. Shut up or get off this list. Enough said.

                                            Dale R. Newberry

P.S. Let's forget about all these labels we're putting on music, and
just call it MUSIC for Pete's sake (well, except for country and rap,
    just kidding :).
P.P.S. Rip (and anyone else considering Down), I don't have the album,
but have heard some of it (on the radio in Hannibal, MO, no less). Not
bad stuff, really. You'd probably dig it. More melodic than Pantera.
Phil actually sings. Very sabbath-influenced (from what little I've
    heard and read).
            P.P.P.S. (okay, this isn't a short post)
    >LONG LIVE PEOPLE WITH SHORT HAIR!!!!!!
YEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!!!! When i first saw a picture of DS, I thought, "Hey!
He looks like me (w/o the facial hair).
P.P.P.P.S. The worst reason to love or hate something is because it's
trendy. I mean, I have tattoos, and NOT because it's trendy. I have a
gotee, and NOT because it's trendy. I'm on the 'net, and NOT because
it's trendy :). I like DT (duh), and NOT because they're not trendy.
And I loved that list of pre-requisites for prog bands. Hilarious
stuff. Sorry for going on so long.

Okay, after three Jams of nothing but Frederico being flamed for his
closed-minded opinions, can we stop already? I think it was pretty
self-explanatory that he is a bit close-minded and stubborn in his
opinions, so it's not necessary for _every_ single member of the Jam to
cut and paste his message and flame the hell outta him. This has
definitely progressed to a 'long, off-topic discussion'.

Now, just so that this post won't be entirely filled with useless drivel
about things that shouldn't even need to be said....

Tori Amos concert in Little Rock, AR on October 13th... if I recall
correctly, the Ytsecon is on the 12th. Well, seeing as how I'm mostly
broke it looks like Tori will be gaining my attendance. To all the
#ytsejam people, I'd really like to be able to make it the Con and meet
you all, but it just ain't gonna happen this time around. Next time you
think we could have a Con somewhere near the middle of the country instead
of up in one of the corners? :)

Lemur Voice: Definitely a cool album... it's definitely growing on me
more with each listen, but at this point I'd hesitate to compare it to
Superior's 'Behind' or say that it is the 'best album of the year', etc.
My impression on this band is that they sorta remind of Fates Warning, in
that the music is a bit subdued, and you have to listen a bit more closely
to it for it to reach out and kick your ass. Definitely a recommended
album, but just be warned that this isn't one of those albums that _every_
single prog-rock/metal fan is gonna love instantly.

    Good afternoon,

    >Rush is a >band that has been around for over 20 years. 20 years. that's a >*hell* of a long time to be around in the music business. bands that >don't evolve and change don't stick around for 20 years. everyone at >some point(s) changes and goes in a new direction with their music.

This is an excellent illustration that has very few contrasting examples. It's interesting to note, that the bands who haven't changed their sound slightly with the times are those who seem to have the most internal disharmony as well. The change in sound is as much for the band as the listener. How AC/DC can go on playing the same chord progressions for as long as they have, I'll never know. Rush is now at the point where they are making music for themselves. If the fans like it, wonderful! If not, they can afford to keep writing until they get something that will sell to a wide base. If that didn't work out, they could easily retire. From my own point of view, I'm much happier with what I've written over the last 8 years than with my stuff from my first 8 years of playing. Like Rush, my range of life experiences has filtered my creative flow and made the music more mature from an ideological sense. If you force a band to sound the same for over 20 years, you condemn them to an unhappy existence. That makes me wonder how the Stones manage to keep moving after 30 years. Of course, they could stop anytime now and I wouldn'y utter a word of protest. ;)

Wait a minute! I thought Kelvin Moore was the guy who invented the temperature scale the astronauts use? Maybe Kevin really does have a Space Dye Vest!!!!! My God, it's full of stars! :)
