Hey Hi! So no one would like to sing on Wait For Sleep? No one's wondering about a band covering DT songs such as Erotomania? :( As I said before: I recorded some DT covers with my band, Five Seasons... I encoded 3 wav files (16bit, stereo, 44.1Khz) to MP3 and zip them: EROTOMAN.ZIP - 6Mb (Erotomania) WFS.ZIP - 2.8Mb (Wait For Sleep with vocal) WFINSTR.ZIP - 4Mb (Wait For Sleep instrumental version, it contains a bonus intro :) and a MID file, too) If you don't have an MP3 player, you can download one for Windows (MP3PLAY.ZIP, 108Kb) and/or an MP3 to WAV decoder (MP3DECOD.ZIP, 78Kb). You can download these from http://thunder.sch.bme.hu/music/dt/else.html Please, please, please let me know your opinions, ideas about these files. I'm NOT going to make more in the future if no one cares... And another thing: there are 2 instrumental songs my friend did with his band "Wellington". They like DT very much and I think it's perceptible on the songs and you'll like them, too. :) These 2 MP3 files (SHOCK.ZIP and INERTIA.ZIP) are on Einar B. Gilberg's page: http://www.colargol.idb.hist.no/~einarg/dt.html Cheers, Peter

    Hi all

we all know that 'Live At The Marquee' is a Dream Theater CD don't we? But how many of you know that it is also the title of the second CD of a double EP pack by the excellent but now sadly defunct band Kyuss - and that I am desperately looking for it? This rarity goes under the title of the 'Demon Cleaner' EP, and the second EP is live material recorded at the Marquee in Hamburg, Germany (no, not London, England). Does anybody have this little beauty and is willing to part with it, or does anybody know where I can get my grubby little hands on a copy? And yes, I have already tried CD Europe. Name your price. All tips gratefully received.

If any of you Kyuss fans out there want an update of what the guys are currently up to, e-mail me privately and I'll let you know what I've managed to find out (for example, John Garcia's new band Slo-Burn will be coming to Europe very soon).

Any Helmet fans out there in cyberland? I just heard the track 'High Visibility' from the forthcoming album 'Aftertaste' on a sampler, and this thing has more grooves than and old vinyl LP. If the rest of the album is like this, then I've already got one of my contenders for the album of the year contest.

Things that move me: Ex Lax, prunes, Guiness, beef vindaloo, sauerkraut.

stay safe and happy listening Neil Gallop (nga@software-ag.de) Currently playing: Karma To Burn - Karma To Burn (spot the Kyuss link there if you can)

Just wanted to drop everyone a note to let you know of a few changes. First, after discussing the matter with the band, a decision was reached that I would give up the title of "Official Chaos Theory Website" to someone a bit more versed in HTML than myself to become the "Unofficial" site...but don't worry, I HAVE 2 NEW .WAV FILES on my page at WWW.NETWIZARDS.NET/~YANOS/ not to mention original images from their last live show in Fremont, CA! Just drop in and click on the Chaos Theory link and don't let the name change fool you, my site will continue to serve the Progressive Metal community a healthy dose of Chaos soon to be joined by Conception and Symphony X! If you are looking for the NEW official site, pop over to www.li.net/~jdbart/chaos_theory/ and you'll be set.

    Cheers-

I picked up No Code as soon as it came out (die hard thing ya know?) I listened to it and was stunned. I was like "wow they changed again, but it is still fucking awesome!" This album is alot different from any of the previous ones, it is a lot slower, so if youare wrapped up in speed you are in for problems. It hsa alot of great lyrics and such and everything else that is good about Pearl Jam on it. Its also got a couple of those "touching songs" as we have been so affectionately calling them. I am not saying there are no fast songs on it (Hail Hail) but they are somewhat few and far between. I like it, and I listen to it quite a bit, though I like my live versions of the songs better (a radio show from Berlin). I think it is worth picking up.

I like Temple of the Dog, but I rwally like Eddie's vocals better than Chris', at least at the time. Now both their voices have matured a good bit, I like Chris' voice on the newest album alot. I will admit that the lineup was damn good, but I just wish Eddie could have shared the vocal work, not just backed up Chris (Hunger Strike being the exception).

Couple things, I got an early copy of the new QR album and the unfavorable reviews are not really warranted. True the album is really different and the signt of a 3:00 min song doesn't help much, but the album has the same effect as Promised Land. You will listen to it once, put it away and listen to it a lot later. I also have a feeling they will have more sucess with this one. Still I wish they would try harder or something. Take the time.

Welp, everyone's doing it, and so will I:

    (In no particular order)

DT - Voices, Under A Glass Moon, Learning to Live I find it interesting, the wide range of opinion on Voices i've seen here, but I think it's barnone the best DT song ever ever ever!

Queensryche - Suite Sister Mary, Revolution Calling, and sure, Silent Lucidity also I Am I, and Damaged, but mindcrime is definitely my favorite album

Iron Maiden - The Rime of the Ancient Mariner! yeah! Powerslave, Hallowed, BackintheVillage, Somewhere in Time, Trooper, several others. Nothing new.

The Cure - The Edge of the Deep Green Sea, 100 Years, Same Deep Water as You.

The Pixies - Alec Eiffel, Number 13.

Kate Bush - Love and Anger(done with David Gilmour), Cloudbusting

Genesis - The Medley(from the Way We Walk the longs), No Son of Mine

Tool - Crawl Away, Swamp Song, Sober

White Zombie - Electric Head Part 2

Alice in Chains - Rooster, Again

Pearl Jam - Not For You

    Depeche Mode - PIMPF

I just got my first Savatage album, Dead Winter Dead, and already I could add about half the songs to this list.

Sorry about the length...got carried away! whoops...

    > Eddie Vedder is one of the best lyricists out there > right now but never gets the recognition from the critics.

Though I disagree with you about the value of Pearl Jam, I will defend to the death your right to like them. However, I think that as far as recognition goes, Eddie gets more than his share. If you aren't seeing articles from Eddie in Rolling Stone frequently enough, it's not because they're not giving him enough attention... more likely he's telling them to blow.

And I hate Pearl Jam, too, in case you care. :)

    > It can't just be a Marshall, I've played through one and the GC tone > is definitely not it. Their tone sounds more like a Randall (Pantera, W. > Zombie). Besides, most people nowadays don't use the ol' amp heads for > distortion. They (what am I saying, WE) use different preamps, processors, > and rack-amps. For example, Petrucci uses three different amps live. He > has one Mesa Boogie amp head, and he switches from that to either of two > different Tri-Axis (reeeely expensive distortion preamp??) rack systems.

Well, you're wrong. It COULD be a preamp and a Marshall, but it CAN be and more than likely IS just a Marshall. Marshalls are the most unpredictable amps on the market... the majority tha tyou find in stores sound like open ass, but the ones in the special shops can be unmodified and rip your head off. Plus, it takes a certain kind of player to play through that kind of amp. If you're the type that has always relied on saturated distortion from a Digitech or other rackmount, it's highly unlikely that you'd be able to tame an all tube Marshall (They aren't using Valvestate) in the course of one day... or one month. There's also usually a break point on a given Marshall amp... meaning, that it sounds one way at one volume, and then a notch higher, it's a completely different (usually better) amp. I've only played on one preamp that really sounds real... the TriAxis. No Digitech or Rocktron stuff really sounds right to me. I guess it comes from actually playing on one... I can say it jus tabout ruined my life. I don't love any guitar sound from any amp I play on anymore. I want a TriAxis. :P But back to the issue... if the dude from GC said it's Marshall, he probably wasn't lying.

    > After listening to the DT Christmas CD I can't see where these guys > hate each other. They are a motley crew though. They all have > different and strange personalities, but like I said, they were > having loads of fun on the Christmas CD. Just listen to the Silent > Night outro (heheh, or avoid it. :)

I heard that Mike Portnoy quit DT, divorced his wife, married Pamela Anderson, and joined some cock rock band that sings songs about some fictional "Dr. Feelnads" or something like that...

Disagree. There's nothing emotional or inspiring about a guy who hates living so much, that he can't even muster the energy to kill himself (he's probably hating Cobain for stealing his idea). Pearl Jam lyrics make me feel like I'm in a college writing course, struggling to get a good grade, rather than being a source of entertainment.

    Hey guys!

About the recent discussion about Eddie Vedder, I just wanted to recommend the film "Hype" to any jammers that can see it in a theater or on video. This film is a really well-done doumentary on the Seattle music scene which I found really educational, as a hater of most grunge.

This film explained that the cool thing about Seattle was that everyone was putting out albums with their friends for fun--of all different styles of music. However, when corporate America came to town they chose to only promote one kind of sound and the other bands were left in the dust.

Eddie Vedder really earned my respect in this film, because he was so modest and said that he really wished other styles from Seattle were given a chance like his band. He was very well spoken, as was Kim Thayhil. Both were really supportive of the lesser-known Seattle bands in the film. One must also give Eddie Vedder credit for shafting Ticketmaster so badly by refusing to play their venues.

Sorry for the NTC, but this was a great film, that makes one realize that the Seattle scene was a really noble, fun phenomena at first, but the bastardization of it by the record industry is probably what led many of us on the jam to hate its signature sound and ethic. Later guys!
