Oh and by the way did i say buy Satch. Just don't let that lullaby at
the end put you to sleep. (You'll want to stay awake for a couple of weeks
just so you can keep listening.)

It really seems as thogh Joe was inspired on this one. I'd imagine touring
with Vai and Johnson would certainly inspire me to greater heights. It
will be interesting to hear Vai's and Johnson's next projects to see if
    they were similarly inspired.

And I would feel guilty if I didn't say something about DT, is it just me
or does the Solo in Scarred kick asssssss.

And don't forget to Buy Satch.......and be careful if you go to Best Buy or
Blockbuster.....don't accidently pick up Crystal Ball (that symbol guys new
set0 make sure there is a bald guy on the cover. Oh hell go ahead and get
Crystal Ball as well Then in a year or two when you feel like listening to
something besides Satch you can listen to Prince pump out them funky jams.

One more thing did all ya'll geetar plunkers out there know that ibanez has
figured out a way to mass produce the Chrome guitar.....now i actually
don't like the idea. it is a cool guit and all but i liked the uniqueness
of it. It was a fine work of art. Then again maybe I am just bad cuz i
    can't afford one.

Alex hit the nail on the head with this one. The biggest city in the country,
and it has by FAR the worst radio scene of them all. I remember when K-Rock
was the "Classic Rock" station, Q-104.3 was the "Hard Rock" station, and WNEW
was just the "Rock" station, and they all had virtually the same playlist.
ARGH! And now it's even worse, because they all play shit. Fortunately,
being on LI, I have access to WBAB, small enough not to be a city station,
cool enough to play DT fairly regularly, and even cool enough to give one of
my bands some airplay a few years back. :)

There also used to be WRCN by me (in Nassau County, the western part of the
Island), but they sold their Nassau frequency to some country station, and now
only broadcast out in Suffolk. WRCN could rival WBAB for coolness.

Well, ya know, there's that one show on Saturday afternoons... :)

Jeff, this was among the best album reviews I've ever read. *This* is how a
review should be written. More than just "It rules!", it afforded us some
insights into how the music may have come about, and tipped me off to look for
influences (especially in JP's playing) that I wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

    Thanks.

Caliban's Hour is a book written by Tad Williams. Pretty good book about a
guy who's mother gets exiled to a tropical island and that's where he grows
up. Eventually a wizard guy shows up with some hot daughter and Caliban
gets wood over her and I hate to spoil the book. It's rather good, kinduv

Set your acceleration to DirectX instead if you can, and tell it to use
texture mapping. It mostly depends on the program you use. As cheap as it
is, I use Simply 3D2 for all my 3D work. It renders better than I can get
3D Studio Max to and you can get it to work WYSIWYG without grid lines and
such. If you're using AutoCAD, just type "hide" and that takes care of it.

I dunno. I've been playing acoustic alot more lately, so I've been rather
reliant on .38mm Dunlop Vinyls (I think that's what they are). I like
floppy picks. I still can't use the Jazz III's for some reason. When I
play electric I only go with a 1.0mm Big Stubby anymore. The only problem
is I drop 'em on the floor and can never find them again (they're the clear
    ones).

Has anyone ever done or had done any routing work on their guitar
for the bridge cavity? I really want to switch the Floyd bridges on my two
guitars... I have a Soloist which is the only one I really play, but it has
one of the old-school Floyds on it with the more obtrusive tuners. I don't
think there's any way I can get a low-pro bridge to fit the existing body
cavity, and I know it's too small for the one I have from my other guitar,
so it looks like I have to either keep playing with the old bridge or have
someone do some routing work on my soloist, which I'm REALLY hesitant to
do. It's still in good shape and I don't really want the finish getting all
fucked up... So my question is, if I find someone reputable to do it will it
look reasonably professional, or will they have to butcher my guitar?
I know this isn't the best place for this; sorry, but I don't know
who to ask and I think there might be a few guitar players on this list...

Just picked up Richie's new album, "Undiscovered Soul." All I can say is
"Wow!" This is the best album I've heard in a long time. I'm not sure if
you'll like Richie's new one because it is less "guitar-oriented" than
"Stranger In This Town. The emphasis is now on writing some really upbeat,
catchy rock songs, though a healthy blues streak does run through some of
the songs. It's not NEARLY as dark as "Stranger," probably owing a lot to
his marriage and new-born daughter. But he has really come into his own as
a solo performer with this. No more Bon Jovi throw-aways ("Rosie"). This
is a pure Richie Sambora album.

The only connection between Firehouse and DT is that their second album was produced by David Prater (I&W). Firehouse isn't the most original hard rock band out there, but at least they stuck to their guns and continued to create melodic hard rock. No amazing time changes or complex polyrhythms to be found here, if that's what you're after. But if you like hard rock, definitely worth checking out. You might have heard their songs "Don't Treat Me Bad," "Love Of A Lifetime," "Sleeping With You," "When I Look Into Your Eyes," or "I Live My Life For You." Actually, I lied. There is another connection between DT and Firehouse: Bill Leverty, the Firehouse guitarist, named FII as his 3rd favorite album of 1997.

Firehouse is > one of those melodic hard rock bands that would fit more in the vein of > Slaughter and Warrant, who they are consequently touring with along with > some other bands this summer, I think.

It's called the Rock Never Stops tour and will be hitting amphitheaters and festivals throughout the summer. On the bill are Warrant, Quiet Riot, Slaughter (whose involvement is questionable given the death of guitarist Tim Kelly), L.A. Guns and possibly one other band I'm forgetting. Firehouse isn't joined the tour until half-way through so they can complete their new album.

Well, no one has responded to my question about economy picking vs. straight alternate picking from earlier, so let me ask another question that probably no one will answer: When you straight alternate pick, do you actually 'run around the car' every time you go to a new string, even if you don't need to?

Pick up your guitar, play two notes on adjacent strings. First play them w/ 2 downstrokes, then with an upstroke and downstroke. Notice a difference in sound? Knowing how to pick both ways will enhance your skills (as does being fluent with ANY possible guitar technique). Yes, economy picking will make it easier to play a passage of flurried notes. But always remember, you get what you pay for.

I have to agree with you. I found it much easier to learn theory from a piano player. It is much easier to visualize notes on a piano than it is on guitar. The only thing I ever found easier to learn on guitar were modes. But I never use them anyways!

Cdnow is having a storewide sale.......i believe everything is marked down...you can also order LTE now for only 11.99.............the sale ends on the 16th.

Another question does anyone have the John Petrucci Instructional video and if so what is it like. Is it mostly lead technique or is it more well rounded like the Eric Johnson video. Ya see it is also on sale and i don't know if i should get that or the new EJ video.
