Again, PF is not "prog" in the technical sense of the word, but in the "cerebral" sense, as I believe someone put it. They have much more of an influence on mindset and ideas than musical aspects, I think...

Steves Perry and Smith aren't original members anyway. Gregg Rolie handled almost all of the lead vocal duties with occaisional lead vocals from Neal Schon. Now he and Ross Valory are the only original members left in the band.

I've been meaning to comment on the beginning of When the Water Breaks. I'll be damned if that whole beginning part doesn't sound like Fates. I can't remember which song . . . maybe it's A Pleasant Shade of Grey, or something off of Parallels . . . I don't remember. But it sure does sound similar. I see others have noticed. Oh well, I guess that happens a lot in songs.

as far as Testament goes, just picked up Demonic yesterday....and haven't yet heard it, but the rough death metal growl concept isn't making me wanna rush home and throw it on......good thing I got it for free, huh? Oh, no, not this thread again. It's like they wait until the last one dies, and then asks the question. :) I'm not ragging on you, though, Thor.
My suggestions: I would check out Beware of Darkness. Not only is it my favorite album of theirs, but it's got a good variety of different styles on it and should give you a good idea of what kinds of music they play.
Besides, it has "The Doorway" on it.
Even though I haven't heard it yet, I also suggest you try out Kindness of Strangers, which I hear is also SB at their best. Day For Night is a good album, but I don't even think that I'd put it in the same category as BoD, except for "The Healing Colors of Sound," which I abso0lutely no-doubts love. If it's one thing SB can do, it's long songs.

i have a Memorex 2216. i have never had any problems with mine. i have burned just about anything imaginable, and except for a software glitch that i had to take care of, the drive has been perfect. i do have a friend who got a philips about a year ago. it went bad a few weeks after he got it, filling the cd's with lots of pops. i can recommend a Memorex writer, but thats about the extent of my experience.

Well, their Demonic album is certainly a "death-metal" style disc......but I highly recommend their new one, entitled The Gathering. It still has rough vox (not as 100% rough as Demonic, though), but it's much more melodic. Oh, and it's HEAVY. Very, very HEAVY.

I second that!! so you saw the same tour i did eh?...was Testament there with "The New Order"? was it club or arena? Jeff was killin' me...was he making those chessy grins cuz he knows he sounds like two guitars??...my bassist and I commented after the show that....he would purposely make this funny face and just when youre getting ready to bust out laughing he hit you with this fast,tasteful, clean, toneful phrase.
I think he got some kind of sick pleasure watching a mob of faces change expressions at the same time. I love his Distortion/Clean<delays and verbs and choruses>/Distortion riffs that he alwys comes up with.....ive alwys said that Vai and Waters are the best at that technique.
