    ____ _____ ______ _______ _______

well chris, most of us really do care. the sad thing is we tend to sit
on our hands and do nothing about it. I know i have in the past. i guess
the harsh reality of this all is plain: the DT fans on this list are
only humble and happy when theres something new directly about DT.
simple as that. thats not a bad thing, just an understandable thing. i
hate the spam. i hate the flame wars. its all about logic people, write
    things down with logic!

DT is an intelligent group, we on this list tend to make them seem
like fuckin hanson or something with the stupidity we present. the crap
subjects that many have written down. and dont think we dont know who
you are, we know exactly who you are. do you think that the groups on
the radio these days can write and play what DT do? and if you think so
then get the hell off this list. WHY?? because you should have some
intelligence to enter an intelligent music groups mailing list...
    EINSTEIN.

    now ask yourselves a question:

why are you on this list people?

    the answer...
    think about it...

    not to spam.
    not to argue.

once again...why did you join this list?

    well...
ITS BECAUSE AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER YOU WERE OR ARE A FAN OF DTs MUSIC.

    enough said.

    and im spent.

P.S {pee-ess}: i guess the real solution to the problem is get the
higher ups (if there are any) to filter out the spam etc crap, the
instant they notice a problem. and also it would help if topics were
    introduced once in a while.
    (intelligent related topics)
    thanks.

One possible way to reduce the spam would be to restrict the Ytsejam posts to only come from people who are subscribed. Do that for a few months and the spammers will get some bounced messages and hopefully take us off their lists. Then you could try opening up the Jam again. CC'ing ytsejam-owner and Skadz (is he still the list owner?). Skadz (if you're the right person), at least let us know if you plan *not* to make that change. Thanks.

Hey all, I'm temporarily releasing from lurk mode to ask a guitar question (well, 2 actually):

What's a good quality guitar headphone amp ? I'm looking for something high quality that provides a dry, solid distortion (this is priority 1), and doesn't sound like a toy, as all the headphone amps I've tried have. Does such a thing exist ?

I've been recommended Korg Pandora PX3, but this looks like it's more of a portable effects processor than a headphone amp, is this correct ? Can you just play through the Pandora by itself, without it connecting to a regular amp ?

The bottom line is this: I want something I can just plug my guitar and a pair of headphones into so I can jam late at night and on vacations. Does anyone have any recommendations ?

BTW, I don't need anything super-compact or the size of a Game Boy, just something portable and not amp-sized.

Thanks for any help, please respond privately !

    Drew

I've heard lots of people talk up their Line6 POD's. So much, in fact, I'm thinking about getting myself one. I've heard some people say they suck and some people say they can practically clone JP's tone with 'em. heheheh. I wish I knew where I could try one out. :\ -- KorgX3 isn't even sure Line6 makes 'em.

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids...

Time for a review of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra show at the Tabernacle in Atlanta on 23 December. In a word: AWESOME!

There are lots more words, of course. A hugely entertaining evening all around, with everybody onstage obviously enjoying themselves from the very first note. If you missed this tour (tonight's shows here in Atlanta and in New York were the last ones of the tour), kick yourself, and then make a vow to go next year.

The songs were interspersed with narration from a fellow called Tony Gargano (at least I think that last name is right, his autograph is mostly illegible. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong). The three main vocalists were outstanding -- a fellow named Gary Lindeman who took the vocals for songs like "An Angel Came Down" and "This Christmas Day", Michael Lanning, who handled vox for songs like "The Three Kings (What Really Happened)", and original TSO vocalist Thomas Faresse, who is the vocalist on "Old City Bar", "This Christmas Day", and so on. There were also two female vocalists who came out for some tunes.

The music was excellent. Two keyboardists (Paul Marsh and someone whose name I missed), two guitarists (Jorge Cintron, Damon Lascott), Johnny Lee Middleton from Savatage on bass, a powerful drummer (whose name I also didn't catch), and several local violinists and cello players brought the tunes to life, with a near-perfect blending of the rock sound with the orchestral sound. Absolutely fantastic stuff.

It was also pretty obvious that this was the final show of the tour -- there were a lot of amusing incidents and plenty of weirdness.

    Highlights:

-- The narrative interludes from Tony G. Very emotional and expressive; they bring a tear to your eye, especially at the end of the first set. -- New discovery Gary Lindeman, who gave incredible power and emotion to the tunes he sang on, like "An Angel Returned", "This Christmas Day", and "Christmas in the Air". He hasn't been on any TSO disc yet, but will be appearing on them in future. -- New discovery Michael Lanning, who is the "most soulful white boy I've ever heard", as Faresse referred to him. He hasn't appeared on any TSO disc yet, but when he was finished with songs like "The Prince of Peace" and "The Three Kings and I (What Really Happened)", he OWNED them. He too will be on future TSO releases. -- Lanning doing scat-style vocals, trading notes with both guitarists after "Three Kings", doing pretty well at emulating wah-pedaled notes from Lascott, then saying "I'm not going to touch that with a 10-foot pole" after Damon ripped into a thirty-second solo. Going to Cintron, saying "Damon's being difficult", and getting the same end-result -- they trade notes for a bit, then Jorge uses the whammy bar to come up with a quavering mess of notes that are impossible to follow. Lanning turns to us and says, indignantly, "That's not RIGHT!" :) -- Somebody putting a Mexican hat on Cintron's head while he sat on a stool, preparing for "Old City Bar", then Faresse coming onstage and completely cracking up as he attempted to start the song when he saw Cintron. Turns to the audience -- "How about that hat?" Cintron cracks up too and tosses the hat offstage. -- Faresse being spot-on with his songs. There aren't many vocalists who sound even better in a live environment than they do in a studio, but he's one of them. That gravelly voice sounds outstanding live. "Old City Bar" and "This Christmas Day" were particularly excellent. -- "An Angel Came Down", "An Angel Returned", and "Christmas in the Air". Lindeman's vocals were especially good on these tunes and those of us who knew the songs were singing along at the top of our voices. -- One of the female vocalists came out with a rubber chicken to do "Music Box" and said "I'm going to sing this for my friend here" (it had been tossed at her from offstage for the previous song). She managed to get through one verse before losing it completely. Threw the chicken offstage and got through another verse before something bumped her foot. She looked down -- someone had wound up a motorized mouse and sent it onstage. So she picks that up and does the next verse singing to this furry mechanical thing (we can hear its machinery running when she isn't singing). She gets through another verse before cracking up again and saying "This is supposed to be a sad song." -- Faresse and Cintron's rendition of "Old City Bar". Amazing. -- The local crew being recognized by the entire band for their work, then repaying the band for it by covering everyone onstage with Silly String after the first encore, when they were all taking a bow.

Also, a note for Savatage fans -- when I spoke with Johnny Lee Middleton after the show, he said that 'Tage has settled on a replacement vocalist for Zak Stevens and a replacement guitarist for Al Pitrelli. Unfortunately, he also said that he couldn't say who they were. Yet. However, "Poets and Madmen" should be out in March, he says.

All in all, it was a fantastic evening. Even the Scrooges out there would have been impressed by this show. For the people like me for whom Christmas is a special time anyway, it was simply magical.

Merry Christmas to all you 'jamanoids. Have a safe and happy holiday season.

    cheers, Phil
