    Greetings fellow Jamsters,

Well here's the scoop: Prior to the Feb. 11th show, we will be
gathering at the "Rock Bottom Brewery" located at 800 LaSalle Plaza
    in Minneapolis. http://www.rockbottom.com/html/rb53.html
(The Rock Bottom is about two blocks from the venue)

Those under 21 need not worry... The RBB also is a restaurant.
To play it safe, I called and verified that people under 21 would not
    be turned away.

A few of us local Jammers have chosen 4:00 PM as the meeting time..
This would give everyone enough time to eat, wet their whistle, and socialize
a little before heading off to the venue sometime just after 6:00 PM.
Parking in the area is less than ideal.. I'd find a spot located between the
venue and the RBB and hoof it from there.

I'm sending a map to those of you that have contacted me privately.
Any one else that would like a semi-detailed map that illustrates the
locations of the venue and the RBB can e-mail me and I'll gladly provide one.
    mailto:al@isd.net

I haven't decided what I'm going to wear... But for the purpose of identification
I'll make sure to be sporting a black "Mopar Performance" hat. :)

    Good morning!

Through the invaluable assistance of Radiant Records and Roundtable Entertainment, NEARfest is proud to announce TRANSATLANTIC as the headliner for Day Two of this year's event which is to be held on Saturday & Sunday, June 17 & 18, 2000.

Transatlantic brings together members of four of today's most popular progressive rock bands and features:

Roine Stolt of the Flower Kings (Guitars, vocals) Neal Morse of Spock's Beard (Keyboards, vocals) Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater (Drums, vocals) Pete Trewavas of Marillion (Bass, vocals)

This exciting new project is truly greater than the sum of its parts. Throughout their debut release, available in late March from Radiant Records/Metal Blade, it is obvious that the four members very much enjoyed creating this music together. Their individual virtuosities shine through track after track, from the opening of the 31-minute suite "All of the Above" to the closing Procol Harum cover "In Held (Twas) in I."

In speaking with each member of the band, Radiant/Roundtable assures us that Transatlantic is very happy and very enthusiastic about being part of NEARfest 2000. Needless to say, we're quite excited ourselves!

Tickets for NEARfest 2000 go on sale Tuesday, February 15, 2000 at 11:00 am EST from the Zoellner Arts Center box office at (610) 7-LU-ARTS.

See you all in June... "1000 in 2000!"

P.S. Stay tuned for preshow information.

Hello everyone. This is a guitar question for anyone that can help, particularly any Ibanez Universe players. Here goes: I have a UV7BK, the black and green one, and a UV777BK (the latest one, I think). The 777BK plays better, comfort wise, and in general I like it better, but for some reason, I get a lot more picking noise out of it than I do with my older one. I've tried EQing it out to some extent, which didn't work well, and I've tried different picking techniques, and moving the pickup...nothing works. The only thing that helped a very little was turning the tone knob down...but then it sounded like ass. Any suggestions? It doesn't bug me much for rhythm playing, but when I'm trying to play a nice clean lead passage it sounds awful, plus if I'm using delay, I get the little clicks repeated and it's even worse. One thing, I know you pretty much get picking noise no matter what, and I have considered that...but I'm just getting tons of noise, to the point where it interferes with the actual notes. Any help from you guitar players would be awesome. Thanks,

    Bobby

So far there are two solo albums, the one mentioned below and 'Made By Hand' which is mostly 'unplugged' covers of Winger songs and a few from the first solo album 'TCSLAD'. Andy Timmons played some guitar to 'Daniel' and he played guitar on most of 'TCSLAD'.

Check the Domo records website at www.domo.com

Hey, I nkow a lot odf you don't like wrestling and hate it with a passion, but those who are semintrested this news is unbelievable. The stupidity of WCW's management has reached an all time high. Vince Russo was given TOTAL creative control over storylines and booking. He along with Ed Ferrara wanted the main event of Last months Souled out PPV to be a battle royal for the title, with Tank Abbott winning, then feuding with Goldberg. WCW execs hit the roof, this is where it really hit the fan. After this, they were relieved of there duties (Ferrera still writes only), and Kevin Nash, JJ Dillon and Kevin Sullivan were put back in charge. All the young guys who were given a chance by the new bookers immediately asked for Sullivan to be removed from the postion, so they kinda went on strike. Within the past week these guys have/or will most likely be released

Chris Benoit Dean malenko Saturn Shane Douglas Billy Kidman Eddy Guererro There were a few others I can't remeber, but those were the big names. Kevin Sullivan isn't worth all these guys leaving. Vince Mchmahon has met with Benoit, Saturn and Douglas I believe about their future in the WWF.

Like, lots?

Pre-Kev, synth/keys playing didn't stand out a whole lot; most songs were guitar driven (and still are) - it'd the instrument carrying the melody and the only one really doing anything fun (solos). For the most part, the synth seems to serve as little more than background noise, filling out the high end (usually only just audible) as a substitute for a string section.

Obviously, there are exceptions, Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson being two lead examples. Wakeman has a style a lot like a concert pianist, even in his rock stuff. He doesn't use pitch bend very much; his left hand is very much mobile; what he plays is independent of what the rest of the band does, yet supports it; and, perhaps the thing most people have noticed and parodied, he has speed ("Attack of the 128th Notes"). I can't comment on Emerson's style, having heard only two songs.

Kevin's style departs from earlier players in that his is almost a guitar-playing style. He uses pitch bend with great subtlety, which probably sets him apart most from the rest. He has the speed. Quite often on I&W he plays along with JP's lines. Another thing evident on I&W is use of color (dissonant notes), in chords and chromatic runs, but this may be from JP's writing. This can also be heard on early versions of ACOS. His sense for emotive playing is also evident, but hard to copy; it's one thing his imitators lack.

Obviously Kevin had to have influences himself, but I don't know who they'd be. Just how original his style is I can't say. However, his influence has spread quite far in the past few years. Several bands point to DT in their liner notes, and a few keyboard players even name Kevin directly.
