Yeah I just ordered the DVD through Blackstar and it's out of stock.

Yeah works out to be around the $52 aus mark.

BTW Aussie metal store in Melbourne have told me they are getting the DVD
in stock, but couldn't give me a date, or which region it will be.

They have a great selection of everything and are pretty cheap.
Ther best thing is, they are also a retail store and don't stock any nu-metal garbage.

Yes, it's only a 2-channel mix. No, that's not a big deal. Why?
Because what are you going to hear in the rear channels anyway? Audience
noise. What's the huge deal about that?

They could do a nice mix with the existing instruments!

I mean, if it were like that, then there wuld be no serious benefits of
listening to ANY type of music cd in something other than 2 speakers..

they can mix the live stuff just as they would do a nice studio mix..

im jsut suggesting im not too versed in studio/mixing stuff

Knowing what I do about audio engineering (which is somewhat limited but still valuable), since they used a stereo mix for the concert, there's no real reason to try doing a five-channel mix with what they have already. This is because they've already done out a mix in stereo, and therefore it's already set up that way. If they had been planning a five-channel mix to begin with, they could have mixed those into the original show's mix as well.

The thing is, though, that a two-channel mix has surround built into it anyway, it's just Dolby ProLogic. ProLogic works by taking whatever sounds that are out of phase (i.e. anything that's on the very edges of the sound or that sound as if they're behind you when using headphones) and sending them to the rear speakers. The down side to this is, of course, that it only uses a mono rear channel, instead of stereo in a four-channel setup. However, it sounds very close to the same thing, unless you're looking for EXTREMELY close positioning using the rear speakers, which isn't the case when you're doing a concert recording.

    So that's why a two-channel mix isn't a big deal.

Can we possibly make it so only people on this list are able to post? Maybe if the moderator kept a list of allowed email posters. Heard it done before. Almost half of the last digest was spam. It's getting ridiculous.

On a musical theme, Just bought the new Tarantula album, Dream Maker... its one of the catchiest melodic metal albums I've heard for a long time. I'm pretty sure they're Portuguese... check it out if you get a chance.

Bought Pain Of Salvation - The Perfect Element I as well, having a bit more trouble getting into it... technically good, but seems to lack something at this stage. Will soldier on with it ;-)

I picked that up about a month ago. I really didn't "get into it" at first either. Now that I've had it for a while, I listen to it all the time. Its very progressive (to use everybodys' favorite adjective). The more I listened to it the more depth I heard to the sound. There's a lot going on...hard to tap the foot. -Tim

The easiest thing to do is get your ytsejam's in bounce mode, so you don't even read them.

TPL is a tough listen, it's perhaps too intense for me. I can't listen to the whole thing at once.

Yeah it's only a 2 channel mix - but MP did that on purpose. Actually he did it for the same reason that you don't have multiple camera angles - to provide space for more bonus tracks.

Personally, I'd much rather have the bonus tracks (which are awesome, IMO) rather than the multiple cameras or 5.1 mix. Just remember beggars can't be choosers! The fact that MP convinced Elektra to let DT do this in the first place is awesome, given that they *just* released a video after their last studio album.

Where'd it go!? I just checked to see what ranking the dvd had today, and its nowhere to be found! Not even in the music video and top sellers list of 50. However, The "Images and Words Live in Tokyo" video is number 21. That's a little nuts.

No, you didn't see the Metropolis 2K DVD on the top of the list. You saw that Metropolis _200_ DVD :) Apparently this was a typo'd entry... I just ordered the PROPER M2K DVD today, by going to "Dream Theater" and looking under "Videos." There it was, complete with the release date and everything. Unfortunately, because of that damn error, the DVD is back down at the bottom of the sell list :)

well, i have pink floyd's The Wall, and while its a movie, and has some explosions and shit like that in the beginning that make good use of the 5.1 mix, the music too is beautifully arranged for that kind of mix. i mean, the delay on dave's guitar, some keyboard parts.....the point is that the music was like mixed all over again for 5.1 channels

this live DVD is different though...and with the 2 channel mix just might be enough...plus, not having 5.1 nor DTS leaves space for more material....hope that it was well used!

    >Yes i want to know this as well... >:( >I wasnt really expecting DTS sound but at least 5.1 !!! :( > >

DVD audio If you stop the DVD and go through the setup menu you have choices of 'Bitstream''analog 2ch' and 'PCM'

    sound is in dobly ;)

You can however switch the sound to 3D (N-2-2) sound enhancement

There is also a karaoke vocal function!

there is no multi angle function for the visuals but you can zoom in!

    hope this helps

    Cheers

For everyone wondering about the DVD it's in Dolby Digital 2.0

    BOLLOX!

    And no multiple angles.

    2 BOLLOX!

Won't spoil it anymore, suffice to say I've watched EVERYTHING on it.

In the UK I got mine from HMV on Oxford Street - Virgin Megastore and all the other HMV's didn't have any. There were about six on the shelf yesterday.

I think hear the pitter-patter of little feet running ;)

Can't wait 'till the discussions start on this one!

    Cheers

    Doug

I got mine this morning, ordered from http://www.play247.com/ . It made me an hour late for work!

I've only watched as far as Beyond This Life, but it's good. My only complaint is that you have to sit through about five minutes of titles and crap before you get to the main menu, and then another five minutes after selecting "play" until you get to the live show itself. Very annoying; but I suppose that's what the skip button on my remote control is for. :-)

No signs of any video/audio sync problems in the first 20 minutes anyway... I'm hoping mine is free of the "bug".
