While I agree that concert tix in general are gettting ridiculously
expensive, I have to disagree w/ you on a couple of points as far as G3
    goes.

First, yes, I do agree that comparing Metalfest to the G3 show is comparing
apples and oranges, they are two different types of shows.

I don't think the $45 (cheap seats) are necessarily going to be bad seats.
I got the $45 seats for the DC show and I am in the 17th row center
orchestra! The venues are not going to be that large for the most part, and
in most venues every seat in the house will likely be a good one. This
concert will be expensive but you are seeing three headline bands plus the
guitar holy grail of jams with JP, Vai and Satch on stage at the same time!
All these guys need to get paid. They are the best of the best deserve to
demand a decent price for their appearance. I expect to be seriously
impressed by 3 virtuoso guitarists. To me - "priceless"! (like the MC
commercials) BTW, If Steve Morse was added as a fourth I don't think I'd
    survive it!

I also think the promoters know exactly who their target audience is. Can
you say "sausage-fest"! I can guarantee that the G3 audience will be at
least 90% male musicians most of which will be guitarist. They will also
likely be a little older (tend to have jobs and more money to spend than the
younger ones) and can afford it. They keep raising tix prices and people
keep flocking to the shows! You can't blame the promoters for that. I bet
the shows will be sell-outs just about everywhere. Tix prices will keep
going up, until fans can no longer tolerate the pain in their pocketbooks!
    Purely supply and demand.

    Greetings ye 'jamanoids....

    Rob Denni inquired:

    >Tabernacle all day trying to get autographs. Any get

Dunno how easy it's been elsewhere on the tour, but it should be fairly
easy to meet and/or talk to the guys at this show. The Tabernacle is a
great place to meet bands and artists because the buses aren't parked in an
inaccessible area -- anybody who wants to can come up afterwards and talk,
    get stuff signed, etc.

That's assuming that all of 'em don't come out after the show, bolt for the
bus and not return -- and I can't imagine MP, at least, doing that.

I'm way keyed up for this show. Been a Satch fan for over fifteen years but
I've never met him, despite going to seven or eight of his shows. It'd be
really cool to get to tell him thanks.

As for "official" get togethers: Dunno. I'm not even sure how many ytses
besides meself will be going. Pellaz might be attending, and possibly Matt
Smith and Harmon Caldwell (guys?) but haven't heard much else from anyone.
I am taking the day off from work, though, and will probably wind up at the
venue around noon or so. :)

    cheers,
    Phil

    Sorry people, couldn't help myself...

    Ingredients:

    2 cans artichoke hearts, drained
    1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup freshly shredded Parmesan or Romano cheese

    Directions:

To put this together, quarter the artichoke hearts and
mix them with the mayonnaise and the shredded cheese.
Put in a baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 20
    minutes.

Rumor has it that California grows all the Artichokes
in the USA. Not sure where the rest of the world gets
    theirs...

DT content: Due to popular non-demand, DT will not be
performing at the next Castroville Artichoke festival.
The new Geoff Tate band may open for the Puppet Show
    though... ;o)

Truth: Strange things are seen at some of these
festivals. Last year Paul Rodgers (Bad Company, The
Firm) was playing his greatest hits at the Mushroom
Festival. Great show, warm sunny day in a large grassy
park, hardly anyone there. His second encore was the
song "Bad Company", and everyone was walking away
while he was playing it. Oh well... Openers were Pat
Travers and Dave Meneketti from Y&T, if anyone
remembers them... Whatever happened to "Danger Kitty"?

I'll be there, and will probably be getting there at around 5pm. Maybe
earlier if I can swing it. I wasn't sure how many DT folks would be
there, so I didn't make any effort to plan a gathering, but what the

    >I don't think the $45 (cheap seats) are necessarily going to be bad seats.

True. I've had some decent $45 seats here and there, but not really any lately. Maybe I've just been jaded by getting hosed at the E-Centre (now Tweeter Centre) so many times. There, if you don't have seats in the middle column, relatively near the front, you're in a friggin' echo chamber, and, from the lawn (tix for which are generally $25+) you see performers no bigger than popsickle sticks to accompany your echo chamber.

I wonder if the kids paying $45 for their Ozzcrapfest lawn seats realize what they're getting themselves into... No kidding. Pre-ludicrous-fees, $37.75, to sit in a big cloud of dirt and barely see/hear some bands of "ill-repute". I bet most of 'em won't even bother going down to the second stage either, not that, this year, there's a whole lot of difference between the selection at either one: nu-rock or nu-rock, nu-rock or nu-rock... Tickets run up to nearly $90. Sharon Osbourne cackles and swims another lap around her money bin, Scrooge McDuck-style.

    >All these guys need to get paid.

No argument, although they probably don't see $5 of the $45 you pay.

    >I can guarantee that the G3 audience will be at least 90% male

That's a given for just about every concert I go to. I need to get some more "female-friendly" musical tastes...

    >Tix prices will keep >going up, until fans can no longer tolerate the pain in their pocketbooks! >Purely supply and demand.

Exactly. As Hansen mentioned, ticket sales ARE down currently. So, one could hope this is the peak...but I wouldn't be too surprised if it ain't.

Philadelphians: Y'all probably knew this already, but Spock's Beard are playing the North Star Bar on Sun 07/22. $20, most of which, I'm sure, the band gets. Also 21+ (sorry youngsters).

wow, I found Satch to kick and Vai bored me to tears. Virgil and Sheehan saved his set imo, hes too full of himself for me to take him serious....He can play dont get me wrong, but he knowsit. Satch was just a cool dude...being this was my 1st exposure to Joe (exceot for the summer song from that discman commercial) I REALLY enjoyed his stuff. I bought his 2 cd live set the day after.

JP and MP what can I say.

i have an extra ticket for the saturday night g3 show at the beacon in nyc if anyone's interested (i don't even know if the show is sold out, but i figured i'd try to sell the extra ticket to someone anyway)...

seat is 3rd row, lower balcony (i was in about the same spot for a show 6 months ago...it's a good view)...face value is $48, but i'd be willing to shave some off of that, just to get back some of what i spent...

please e-mail me privately asap if you're interested, and we'll work out the details...

Has anyone tried "Leonardo: The Absolute Man", one of the new Magna Carta offerings (written by Trent Gardener and performed by various people including James LaBrie)? I'm probably going to buy it but I was wondering what people thought. You can listen to some samples at: http://www.magnacarta.net/ The samples sound pretty interesting -- lots of vocal harmonies.

I've had a promo copy for about a month and it is indeed an awesome album, IF you enjoy Trent Gardner's composition style. James sounds superb, as usual.

I have an extra pair of tickets for the Friday show at the Beacon Theater.

Seats are Orch. Left Center, row J (that's about 12 rows from the stage). I'm just looking for the $60 each that I paid for them.

    Please email me if interested.
