This months (Aprils) Classic Rock Magazine features in its small websites
ection, the English Satirical Prog rock site Glitzy Cape
http://www.glitzycape.free-online.co.uk/
and promises us a special 'Celebrity Death Match' feature between our own Mr
Portnoy and Mick Pointer of Arena (ex Marillion). Well it would appear that
the press release must have preceeded them, because the said article is not
yet posted to the site. However labrie makes an appearance as the guest
summarizer (alongside Steve Howe) for the death match between Santa Claus
and The Great Kat.
There is also a fairly irreverant review of the Hammersmith Odeon gig last
October
http://www.glitzycape.free-online.co.uk/dtandpt.html
Well, it made me laugh :-)

I absolutely second the motion. And I'll even add 1 more to the list: the
live album "Unleashed In The East". But prolly the best thing you can do to
get a good cross section of Halford-era Priest is to get the 2 CD "Metal
Works 73-93" compilation. It has the majority of the "essential" tracks,
plus a ton of not-as-well-known classics. From that point, you can move onto
full albums once you know what you like and what you don't.
Hope this helps... Matt T.

Hey all...
It surprises me that when speaking of Judas Priest recommendations, no
one has so far mentioned the true classics of the band's prime: "Sin
after Sin," "Stained Class," "Hell Bent for Leather," and one of the
greatest heavy metal live albums of all time, "Unleashed in the East."
To me, they went on a long decline after "British Steel," which was
actually the beginning of the downward spiral, IMO, and only came back
with "Painkiller." The live album with Tim 'Ripper' Owens on vocals,
"Metal Meltdown 98," is actually very good as well, but I never bought
"Jugulator" because the reviews for it were extremely mixed.
Your mileage may vary, of course.

Hello guys,
I didn't sleep much last night, I had a big decision to think over.
But here it is: My Grand Rosewood Stick is for sale.
My band is finally kicking off and needs a full time bassplayer,
and I hardly picked it up lately. Since it doesn't look like I'll
be playing it much or at all in the future I thought I better find
it a good home. Plus I could really use the money, ofcourse.
The thing is, I live in Slovenia/EU, so shipping to USA would be
kinda expensive. Let me know if you'r interested.
All the best,
Matej Grginic

Quite a few songs by Ozric Tentacles have a Middle-Eastern flair to
them; they're quite diverse and any given CD could include anything from
groove to spacey synths to reggae to miscellaneous world-music stuff.
Off the top of my head their latest cd THE HIDDEN STEP has at least one
song, "Aramanu" -- great to hear it live on the last tour, too. M.E.
influence would extend at least 5 albums back, probably more. DT
content: Mike Portnoy's a big Ozrics fan. My thought: they're the
best band that hardly anyone's ever heard. :)
There's also a song on Superior's BEHIND cd that has a kewl
middle-eastern "bridge" to it -- "Escape from Reality" at about 2:30
into the track. One of many things about that CD that catches the
ear. :)

I just had to reply this, being a big fan of Etho / World music.
It would be blaspheme speaking on this topic and not mentioning the Balkans. The Balkans are a pass over Europe and Asia, thus it contain incredible mixture of both cultures. I guess those countries would be my Macedonia, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and Turkey maybe.
There is also one awesome Hungarian band called Tin-Tin Quartet who uses far east and middle east ethno influences, and also play such weird looking instruments. :)
So speaking of eastern stylings, you just have to stick to THIS region of the world. :) There are many awesome bands who have eastern influences, in genres varying from ethno rock to pure world music.
I can name few Macedonian bands:
Leb i Sol Anastasia DD Synthesis Vlatko Stefanovski & Miroslav Tadik - Krushevo (this album is available in USA) Miroslav Tadik, ANY of his albums (non Macedonian) Bodan Arsovski Foltin

Im not sure how many of you guys remeber Exhorder, they were a speed/thrash band from the early 90's. Well anyways....they are back together and played 2 reunion shows here in New Orleans. Totally blew me away. They are using the $$ made to fund a new cd they hope to record....
Its nice to have some good come out of New Orleans for a change.....
Whats even weirder I have 2 shows im going to see this week:
Wednesday-Sepultura Thursday- Pantera (Soulfly opens)
I get to really compare the 2. How many can say they saw both bands back to back?
I think Sepultura will take it. Easily. Nation is slowly growing up to Arise stautus in my mind, nut Im twisted.

I think Jugulator is an extremely poor album. If only they'd taken some time to write some tunes and melodies, instead of just being heavy for the sake of it, the album could have been *much* better.
It is one of their worst albums - not a patch on Painkiller, which is an example of how to be crushingly heavy yet beautifully melodic at the same time. :-)

For those of you who might be interested - and are probably attending this show anyway - I thought you might like to know that Division has been added as an opener, as well as the excellent Brave. This will be our first show with a "national" act since May of 2000, and also our first show to feature the return of drummer E.J. Ripple, thus (hopefully) ending our revolving drummer issues.
Just thought some of you might like to get there early enough to see us - and I recommend getting there for Brave, too, as they are very good.
I'll go back to lurking now. :)
