Hey fans! Well, it's time once again for another bootleg tree. This time
I'm offering up 8/4/00 at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia, Pa. This
show is called Brotherly Deceit and it's a great recording of the second leg
of the Metropolis 2000 Tour. If you want more info about the show and how
to get involved with the tree, go to www.lamneth.net/brotherly_deceit.html
and there you'll find all the info on the show, info on how the tree works,
and a convenient sign up form to reserve your spot on the tree.

I hope to see all of you sign up and get a great recording of a great show!

just went back from the french fan club convention where I met Mike and he
told us a great bunch of news :
    (in no particular order)
    - Dave McKean will do the next album cover
    - the album is 80% done
    - right now there are 5 songs with a total of 55mins (OMG!)
    - myung will have a 8 string bass on some tracks and they are trying to add
    the stick
    - the album will be heavier and darker than the others. He insists on
    "heavy" and on "experimental"
    - he (again) confirmed me that the Metropolis 2 [the 1996 original demo with
Derek] won't see the light of the day
    - the official bootleg status is still pending, he has no time to do them
    right now
    - the band playing were Regency (very great stuff), ARK (acoustic show,
outstanding performance with great vocals) and Pain of Salvation (1st part
of PE, some old songs and the end of PE).
    - at the end, Mike played with pain of salvation and did some impro
    (including some reggae stuff)
    - they had a home video of the recording of the next album (ala M2) but
there was some problem and we couln't watch it. I saw 1 min of it and there
was John exposing his new haircut

    Cool stuff, eh?

I've never really played DT for my non-DT fan friends...(because they won't
let me play DT for them!)

I have, however, taken a non-DT fan friend to two RMP clinics (Carle Place,
NY and Berklee). . . She said that the music wasn't her style, but she had
a good time and can understand why I enjoy it.

She also said that the music reminded her of "purple unicorns grazing in a
    flower filled meadow."

Sometimes it's best just to nod and smile when such things are said.

Is anyone else experiencing/annoyed by the Jam not coming every now and
then, and then all of a sudden having about a hundred messages in your
inbox? I'm in ACK mode, and about every other week or so there'll be two or
three days where no messages will come, and then I get around a hundred of
them at once. Since I'm in ACK mode, I shouldn't be affected by the
not-enough-messages-to-complete-a-jam syndrome, should I? As far as I know,
every message goes to the ACK users as soon as the main server or whatever
gets the message. Anyone know what's up? Maybe it's shut down while they
try to get the SPAM filters in place? Has this even happened to anyone
    else?

    Later,

It's funny, but the only significant improvement over Risk that I heard
on the new Megadeth CD was the drum sound. Everything else Chris said
was, as usual, well thought out and correct.

    > this new Megadeth that writes hard rock, primarily.

It occurred to me that Mustaine's voice isn't very well suited for hard
rock. The best hard rock vocal he's recorded, IMO, was "Almost Honest"
(which was very good). When I listened to the new one, I kept thinking
to myself that the vocals sounded contrived and forced. His voice is
angry, not rockin' - and angry goes with metal much better than hard
    rock.

Oh well - I hope Dave and Dave "Crush 'Em" all the way to the bank.
They've certainly earned it over the last 15 years. I just hope I can
find someone that wants to buy this CD from me.

    Take care,

    Message-ID: <3B08C0DB.5DE0@atl.mediaone.net>

Hadn't seen this mentioned yet, so here it is....

After the great success of Progpower USA last February, Glenn returns
    with a vengeance! :)

ProgPower USA 2.0 -will- be held Nov. 9-10 at Earthlink Live (formerly
the Center Stage) in Atlanta, Georgia. Glenn Harveston, who
successfully ran Progpower USA to great reviews and brought us the
chance to see Pain of Salvation, Evergrey, Symphony X, Zero Hour and a
buncha other great power- and progressive metal bands, is doing it again
in a larger place (hooray!) My roommate Tim Hurd and I helped arrange
    the schweet venue. :)

** The first band confirmed so far is Superior, from Germany. Longtime
Ytsejammers will remember well the old days, when their outstanding CD
"Behind" was offered to the subscribers here -first-. **

Here's some details..... (No, the roster isn't completely set yet.
Yes, I know some of the bands we're considering. YES, it will kick
    ass. :D)

--Earthlink Live is a GREAT venue for the show. It holds 1,200 (400 on
the floor, 800 comfortably seated). It's an indoor mini-amphitheater
that doesn't have a bad seat in the house. Classy decor, plenty of room
for band tables and vendors, etc. There are two full bars and one
    beer-bar.
(I was there for our walk-through, and the renovations and improvements
surprised me...and I'd seen shows there before.)

--The venue is in Atlanta's midtown. You can fly into the airport and
catch the rapid-rail right from the airport terminal to within 2 blocks
of the venue -and- the nearby hotels. $2 or less fare; no car rental
required! You just can't beat that. It's also within a few blocks of
Atlanta's Brookwood Station, for AMTRAK. Glenn will announce discount
    hotel rates later.

--It will be an all-ages show with general admission.

--The stage is huge, with an elevation of 4 feet. This will eliminate
the biggest concern ("We couldn't see that low stage") of many Progpower
    USA attendees.

--A professional light/sound company will be doing the show; the venue
has an excellent sound system and state-of-the-art, intelligent
stage-lighting. They have worked for everyone, from Dream Theater to
Duran Duran. (DT played this same venue wayyy back on the I&W tour, and
    liked it.)

--Tickets will remain $50 for both nights. Individual one-day passes
    will be available for $25.

--There will be a limited number of advance tickets that Glenn H. will
sell directly. Those who purchase from Glenn will receive a laminated
badge, drawings for autographed items, and a $5 coupon towards the
festival t-shirt (no reductions this year). The remaining tickets will
be placed on sale through TicketMaster a few weeks later.

--A date for ticket sales has not been set yet. Those who bought
tickets to the last show will be given first notice (but, keep your eye
on the Net and you should hear pretty quick anyway :)).

--Discussions are underway taking place with several well-known acts.
We hope to have the roster complete within the next 6 weeks.

--Pictures of the venue will eventually be posted for everyone to see.

--Indy bands, please hold off on contacting Glenn about a spot. He is
focusing strictly on headliners and sponsors at the moment.

--Currently, we expect to have five bands each night with the shows
starting between 6pm-7pm. This way, you can check out Atlanta during the
    day.

I was there with Glenn for the venue walk-through, and the facility
is terrific. The interior appointments are quite classy and elegant,
there's a full bar, plenty of room for band merch sales and
    vendors, etc.

The hall itself is like a mini-amphitheater, with comfortable seats and
a nice, high stage. This is the same venue Dream Theater
played here early on (I&W tour I think), and it's the one James Labrie
    compared oh-so-favorably with the Masquerade.

Something else Glenn didn't mention -- Earthlink Live has an excellent
sound system and modern, intelligent stage-lighting.

It's within walking distance of several hotels (stay tuned for
discounted rates) and some restaurants and it's within walking distance
of the rapid-rail North-South line, which links right to Hartsfield
Airport in the terminal -- $2 or less will get you to the venue and the
hotels. It just doesn't get much easier.

Oh, I'd like to give kudos to my roommate Tim Hurd (who knows damn near
-everyone- in the music industry in this city, and elsewhere, too) for
helping to hook the deal up. :)
