    > PS: Anyone else going to the show, here?

Yep, I'll be there with bells (and an all-access) on. :)

This is going to be a lot of fun, meeting like-minded prog-metal fans
from all over the world. And oh yea, I heard there are some bands
    playing, too!

Tickets still available, BTW. It won't sell out, but sales have been
    decent. :)

Oh, I'd post a review of the new Therion, but I haven't gotten it yet.
It -is- out, right? I checked at Tower Records, and they didn't have
it on the shelf. I'd like to think they sold all of their copies....

    > Alright, could anybody post reviews for the > following albums?

I wrote a review of Angra's REBIRTH for Detritus (http://detritusweb.com), here it is:

ANGRA - REBIRTH (A+) Paradoxx Music, 2001 10 tracks, RT: 52:47 [ http://www.angra.net ] After the reformulation of its lineup, Angra comes out of the ashes with the astonishing REBIRTH. It's a whole new band that sounds like Angra, but with new purpose and strength. The coming of three new members brought different perspectives, but the trademark sound the band built over the years is still there. REBIRTH tells the story of a society that has to be built again after the end of the world, caused by religious wars and biological damaging (timing is everything!). The story is told from the ending to the beginning, joined by choirs, string quartet, orchestral arrangements and Brazilian percussion rhythms. So far, this is not different from any other Angra album, but REBIRTH sounds much heavier than its predecessors; it is the combination of every particular element of each album, all in one, blended with heavy chords and rhythms. The brand new rhythm section, with Felipe Andreolli and Aquiles Priester, has a heavier feel than the previous one, providing very busy tracks, where Kiko Loureiro and Rafael Bittencourt lay heavy, fast riffs. Eduardo Falaschi brought new life to the Angra vocals. His interpretation, strength and presence show he is the right guy in the right band at the right moment. He accepted the challenge of replacing Andre Matos, and does it with extreme competence. For the keys, Gunther Werno (Vanden Plas) was recruited, and he brought interesting sounds to the already existing arrangements. Dennis Ward proved to be a right choice, the album production is perfect, mixing the several elements with precision. After the short chanted intro "In Excelsis," the band kicks off the album with fast "Nova Era" (it means "new age"), with a catchy bridge/ chorus, bringing the listener back to the ANGELS CRY period. "Millenium Sun" begins with a soft piano melody, joined by warm vocals and a string quartet, before the band strikes to a strong track, marked by orchestral arrangements and passionate soloing. After that, one of the best Angra songs ever, the highly acclaimed in its demo version, "Acid Rain." From the start with a choir chanting in Portuguese and majestical keyboard arrangements, the song is set to be a classic already. The chorus is extremely catchy, and Eduardo delivers the lyrics with strength. The bridge to the solos and the solos themselves are played in a sequence of rhythm changes, in which the choir comes back, to return once again in the big ending of the song. "Heroes Of Sand" is one of the power ballads of the album, which starts with a beautiful melody on guitars, using the tapping style, followed by an authentic "sing along" chorus. "Unholy Wars," the longest track, takes us back to the HOLY LAND days, in an intro that blends Brazilian rhythm percussion, choirs in Portuguese, heavy, distorted riffs and a brutal vocalization by Eduardo. Following the intro, comes the second part, which reminds a lot the song "Carolina IV" (HOLY LAND). The title track "Rebirth" is another power ballad, with amazing church choir-like vocal work, leading to a heavy and passionate song. "Judgement Day" starts with a great drums/percussion intro, followed by heavy riffs and a dynamic piano work. "Running Alone" is a typical Angra track, speed metal-like, with strong presence of choirs, in one of the best tracks of the album. To end the album, "Visions Prelude," which melody is an adaptation of Chopin's "Opus 24 Prelude In C Minor," in a soft, beautiful ending for the album (which actually is the beginning of the story). Eduardo closes his first performance as the Angra new singer with a touching interpretation. In conclusion, after all the uncertainty and doubts the original members of the band had about the future, they've managed to create a truly Angra masterpiece, which leads to a promising future. - Rodrigo

I thought the same thing last year, but though the posting quality and quantity may vary, these fluxuations are more indicative, methinks, of just the temporary shifting priorities of national and international events upon both the pysche and economics of many people. Suffice to say, I don't think it's extinction is inevitable, just yet, but surely there is periods of massive posting versus 'barely a voice heard' time.

Anyhow, maybe things will pick up after ProgPower next weekend?

Even though I have and love all of his previous releases, I was not really impressed by this one. It should ship with all new Kurzweil keyboards as a demo cd, though. :)

On other related prog-band solo projects, I got Nick D'Virgilio's cd, Karma, also and was also not too impressed with it. Sure, nice drumming, but not very interesting songs........ Trevor
