    Hi all,

last night was my first Transatlantic show and it was great. There was no support act and I think they played about two hours of great music. Although I had a lot of thinks on my mind and my attention span got rather short during the end of the regular set, due to the fact that they played, I think 4 of their 25-30-minute epics it was mind-boggling. After the album opener and 'We all need some light now' I thought this music is just beautiful.
Btw, helping out on backings, guitar and keys was a huy from PoS, Daniel Kierkegaard( sounded like that philosopher) and after hearing him sing I am looking forward for PoS opening for DT.

Tired of being told about death metal and goth metal CDs to listen to? Why not try the new ANGRA! So much for missing Andre Matos! Power Metal at its best.

There are two new discs that I think some of you guys should check out. My Dying Bride--The Dreadful Hours and (as I am sure most have already) Symphony-X--Live on the edge of Forever.

Now you can say what you want about My Dying Bride and the last couple of albums. Personally I didn't like them much. However, their new album is excellent. It is like they took the best elements of Opeth, Type O Negative, and their own stuff to make a dark, moody, gothy, progressive album. There are some string arrangements that really impressed me. This is definitely the surprise album of the year for me.

I picked up the live Symphony-X: Live on the Edge of Forever double disc today. I am always a bit cautious about live albums. Most live albums suck for one of two reasons. One, they fail to capture the live feel. Two, they suffer from poor mixing. Overall this is a great live cd. It does capture the live feel well and the mixing is good. The only small complaint is that in certain parts I would have had Michael Pinnella's keys a little louder.

DT-LSFNY is my favorite live album BTW.

Forget Christmas, man! The new (and LONG) LOTR movie trailer, damn. Most awaited, anticipated movie/music/media event of the year for me, personally. And I forsee attending the movie on opening day AND more times after that. Looks incredibly realistic, and somewhat faithful to the books. I can only say, THIS is the way to wrap up the year....

I know I've posted this around but factor in the passionate diveristy in fans and aficianado's of Tolkien's in the progressive arena, and, well... 2+2=1000!

the good news about this is the fact that the director, producer, etc. have been working hand-in-hand with the Tolkein estate to ensure it's as true to the written works as absolutely possible. NOT your standard "Stephen King book becomes horrible movie rendition" going on here. here's hoping!!

pretty safe assumption i'd say :)

Granted, I've only listened to Heroes of Sand, but i didnt like it at all, its missing what i liked about the band in stuff like Holy Land/Angels Cry etc Hopefully the rest of the album is better...

IMO (emphasis on IMO) power metal is the boring-est ;) genre of metal there is...

I think that would be Daniel Gildenlow of Pain of Salvation fame. :) And I have heard similar reviews of his performances from others. Glad you enjoyed the show. I got to see TA in Washington, DC when they were here, and it was a great show.

I hope that Daniel will stick around with either TA or DT for the US tours next year.....hehe

P.S. Hi Alex! Do you really still read? hehe

Actually its Daniel Gildenlow :) and yes, he is awesome. Im drooling over the posibility of MP doing some sort of sideproject with him... they would just need a bass player :) *cough Sheehan cough* Larue cough *

Hello! I'm going to be in Texas from the 19th to the 28th of november, and I was wondering if anybody knows about any cool concerts that would be happening inside of those dates. Please let me know of anything going on inside of the state, even though I would probably not be able to make it if it's too far away from the Austin area (where I'm going to be staying). Thanks a lot for any info that you could provide.

On a separate note, I recently got Devin Townsend's new album, Terria, and all I can say is that this is definitely another one of Devin's masterpieces. This album is so awesome. It's very different from his previous album Physicist, since it's much more mellow and he uses his clean voice a lot more. It's more progressive and full of the layers of sound that characterize his music. There's so much emotion in all of his songs. I think this album mixes all of his previous efforts into one. It travels the whole spectrum of emotions and styles. In this album Devin also plays a few solos, showing that he is a very capable guitar player as well. This is certainly one of the best albums of the year, a must for any Devin fan, and a recommended buy for anybody who likes good music.

Yes. I'm seeing him live next month, and I really can't wait. Terria is a fantastic album...
