Hello! For those of you who like the band Rhapsody,
they have a new mini-album coming out in about two
weeks. It's going to have I believe 7 songs, all of
them new, and they won't be on the next full album.
It's going to be about forty something minutes long.
Hey people, lets get the jam running once again!!!!!
What's wrong?
Alexis

hi ytsejamers
i've got platypus "ice cycles" which is labeled "limited edition"
but i didn't find any special features or something else "special"
does anyone knows why it's limited edition
the only feature is that every part in "partitial to the bean"
is represented by individual track

Subject: Sonar vs other programs
Message-ID: <20011024111209.8328.qmail@mail.com>
My current plan for Thursday evening is to stop by my local Guitar Center, and dump $300 into Cakewalk's "Sonar" music creating program. From what I've read, it is very far ahead of "Home Studio 9", and not missing anything of consequence from the highest product "Sonar XL".
I was talking to a guy that works where I do about things, and he can't believe that I actually want to buy the program instead of getting it from a Warez site or something. i told him it also came with a free "loops" CD, and he said that made it a little better ... I don't know if I'll ever use loops, but anyway ... yes, the plan is to pay $300 and actually buy the program.
Now, this guy mentioned a couple other music writing programs and said that they were "the BEST" ... but then said that he wasn't all that familiar with Sonar.
So, I guess my question, before I spend that much money in a day and a half, is whether Sonar really is at the top of the food chain, or whether there actually is another program that beats it, or is easier to use, etc...
The main things I want to be able to do (the easier the better :):
-Convert from CDA to WAV or to MP3, and back and forth, etc...
-When playing a wav file, be able to see a clock keeping track of the minutes and seconds, so that I can...
-Clip the track at the desired place, then tell it to have a 5 second fade out, and
-Take another clip, that I gave a 5 second fade-*in*, and splice the two seamlessly together.
-Splice other tracks seamlessly so that the beat keeps sonstant, etc
-Take the new WAV file and boost the high-end treble, and lower some of the mid-low end sounds using a graphic equalizer, preferrably 9 way or so.
I have seen a program that, when you tell it that you want to adjust the graphic EQ, goes to preset EQ adjustments. This creates the question: is it already playing what it shows, or will it change if I click "ok", even though I want it to stay the same?
I would like to tell it "adjust EQ" or whatnot, and have it show it the way it really is (it should show a flat EQ, as it would start with no change from the original inputed file).
-After equalizing the sound of the spliced wav file, I want to be able to adjust the overall volume, preferrably by percentage points or something. Raising one track's volume and lowering another's will mean the recorded CD will sound more consistent.
-I then want to be able to convert these to MP3 and, more importantly, CDa files. My CD-writer could probably handle that, but I want to be able to create compilations the right way.
-Also, if I want a 2 second gap between tracks, I'd like to be able to add them, if necessary, to the wav files themselves.
Now for the REAL challenges :)
-I want to be able to create ANY sound I want, by using preformed sample sounds and then adjusting wafeforms and attack/sustains.
-Also I want to be able to cross different sounds together, For instance, if I want a flute that sounds more like a panflute, but still retains some electric qualities to it, I want to be able to dreate this sound. It would also be nice to have the ability to program a harpsichord that has a string-like resonsnce to it. You get the idea...
-Next, I want to be able to create melodies and change notes, and have the ability to move entire measures of music, either by the single track, or by the entire ensemble.
-I want to be able to tell one track (say, the guitar track) to play one note louder, and with more "queal" than the rest of the notes, and not have to create another separate line for it.
-I want to be able to add pitch-wheel effects and shit like that into the tracks.
-I want the ability to adjust volumes and EQ settings for the individual tracks.
-I also want the ability to adjust these all together, as a wav file or something.
-If I make mistakes in note placing, I want to be able to replace it without too much of a hassle...
Basically, I want to create my own music, with my own sounds ... and I want it to sound as good as Scott Mosher's "Virtuality" CD does.
Will Sonar be able to do all this? Or will I be disappointed and have to get another program?
I know it's a bitch of a question. But I hadn't heard about other programs until Brandon started talking about them, and now I want to make sure I'm getting the best thing.
And before you guys ask, yep, it looks like Thursday's the day (I'm in Pacific time). Guitar Center is having this sale going on through the end of October, and it's really the only time I'll have to get it.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys might manage to supply. Sorry to ask such a bitch-ass question, but nobody else knows anything about this kind of shit. I don't know if many of you will either, but I think some will. Thanks again,
Cyaron

Damn, I should learn to proofread *before* I send. Sorry guys. That should have said "squeal". I want to program guitars that sound like Symphony X or KMFDM and layer them with world/"new age" sounding stuff and strings that sound like Brainbug, and I won't want every note in a measure to have the same attack and sustain and volume and texture and yadda yadda...
Thanks again.
