Here's a quote from a Metallica feature in last month's Classic Rock:

"After listening to the '...Justice' album, it was pretty apparent
that we needed some guidance," James Hetfield later admitted wryly.
It was "obvious", he said, who'd produced the record. The guitar and
drum parts were disastrously high in the mix: "I'm not knocking it. It
was right at the time. But the drums are really loud and the guitars
are really loud. That'll be me and Lars, then."

I think the same phenomenon has started to show itself with Six Degrees
Of Inner Turbulence: Portnoy and Petrucci have taken control of
production, and now we can't hear Myung any more. At some points the
drums are so much louder than everything else that I seriously begin to
wonder if I have a rough demo copy by mistake. ;-)

Right there with you Wes...my actual second post of the year. This is getting out of control! Anyway, I may be at the SYL show...haven't decided yet for sure. I saw them last year when they played the Roxy for the Century Media 10th anniversary party and really liked 'em. Right now it's all a matter of finances for me...between Iced Earth/In Flames/Jag Panzer and Slayer at the beginning of the month, I'm pretty wiped out. But who knows..I may just show up. OK, no more posts for me for the rest of the year :-) cheryl

    You better show up!

Don't make me come to your house and drag you out...

Perhaps it's time to uproot from Iowa and move to Arkansas! Oh yeah, before you do that drop Jill off here in Minnesota. Your friendly neiborhood ProGtoligist knows EXACTLY what to do with cute little blonde Iowa babes..

Right on! Yet another graduate of the Cher School of Dating. :o) You should start combing the maternity wards now for a suitable replacement when the 'Ol lady hits the ripe old age of 29. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FYI: Just a little clarification on the Al vs. Pat thing: Pat and I NEVER had any CD deals.. We were arguing about audio gear. I think somehow the ghost of Mike Bahr snuck into a few Jammer's memories.

Some people say Bahr's spirit can still be seen on foggy nights when the moon is... Wait a minute.. Sorry, that was an old Scooby Doo episode that's haunted me since adolescence.

Hint: Never mix hallucinogens with after school TV programming.

He's doing a few selected dates for about a week on the West Coast, which is all he can afford to do. :(

Gee, I guess I'll be seeing him here in Atlanta at Progpower USA III in November. I am co-sponsoring his appearance, and he'll be performing as "Devin Townsend," not SYL, so we'll be seeing a variety of material from all of his projects. It would have been cheaper for me to fly out to one of his Calif. shows...but nowhere near as kewl. :)
