If you want to join a prog band or your band needs more musicians visit the "Wanna start a prog band?" forum. We restarted it yesterday.

The board has changed hosting service therefore the older messages from the last 4 years the forum was active, are no longer there. We need to make a start for the new BBS we use, so please if you're in need for progressive musicians for your band or you're just looking for musicians to start a prog metal/rock band please post your interest.

You don't have to live in USA or Europe or anything, this is a board dedicated to all musicians around the globe that are seeking for progressive musicians, so, make sure to include your location to the messages.

    Thank you, - MichaelM.

    The address is http://www0.org/musicians

hey there folks, just wanted to put in my shameless little plug in support of this forum. it used to be pretty sweet, but since it's relocated, the traffic is pretty quite so far. jammers, if you want a forum that's got a great layout, very fast to navigate, and talks about things besides topics relating to Mike Portnoy (even though i consider him my biggest drum influence). It's just a relatively fresh forum landscape that has a lot of potential. Check it out!!! Thanks for the announcement Michael!

What's up guys? Here's a brief review of a concert i attended yesterday, by Carl Palmer (drummer of ELP) and his band. To sum it in one word: AMAZING. I wasn't expecting anything from the concert, hell, i didn't even plan on going, as the prices were kinda steep, and i thought it was solely a drum clinic ("The best drummer in the World", that was the publicitary slogan for the event....lame if i might add).

So a friend calls me up and tells me he has won 2 front seat tickets, so i went with him, with zero expectations. The show starts, it's a trio. Palmer on drums (duh..) a young guy (23) in the bass, and this Shaun Baxter guy in the guitar department. They start off with this kinda irish folk song (ALL instrumentals), and i liked it......the guitar guy seemed just fine, he had skill. The band was tight, and the evening was just starting. So they start playing a tune by Bartok, and the serious fun begins! This Baxter guy is a monster, he had these bebop lines, cool tapping and sweeping runs, screaming leads, GREAT tone out of his Malmsteen strat and Marshall, and very emotional when he was playing the demanding stuff. I was very impressed.

The bassist was great too, he and Shaun exchanged lines in a song, great stuff. He was playing a 6 string with no headstock. They played some ELP songs by Palmer (who was quite funny all night and was speaking in spanish!!!). They played bullfrog, tocatta...and a tune of Shaun's solo album. They played Stravinsky too! It sounded very heavy, and the keyboard parts of tocatta, for example, were played superbly by Shaun. This trio sounded very full, no need of another guy playing a backup guitar or keyboard.

Then, the guitar solo came. It was just ok, clean weird chords.....but the real monter playing was with the band. The bass guy too delivered a great and lenghty bass solo. He played almost everything, slap, funk, classical, regional (!), heavy....and was quite cheered by the public.

Then Carl returned and played some more songs, and a solo (the guy IS absolutely a MONSTER!). Sincerely, i liked his solo more than Portnoy's solos. He is one of the best i have seen live (Beauford with King Crimson was scary too!). These old guys only get better with time!

The encore songs were mind-blowing, that Shaun guy was playing some solos! Not in the style of, say, Petrucci, who is really structured at times. He played some things by the book, and some things improvised, but sounded great at all times. He had these sweep/tapping very fluid licks that are very reminiscent of Romeo, but with an entirely different spin. The guy didn't seem so young at all (comparing him to the bass guy), maybe 35. But i didn't see his wild, modern playing coming! For a final encore, they played a tune "in the works": Carmina Burana by Orff....the beggining. It sounded SO heavy and cool, what a band!

Anybody has any stuff from this Shaun Baxter guy20

Not bad for a concert that i was planning on skipping because of misinformation. And free! If they pass to or near your hometown, you gotta go check them out!

    Mauricio
