Could the thread connecting these two songs be that Julian Baynes (the
Sleeper) was an alcoholic, coincidentally subject of The Glass Prison, the
first song on 6DOIT.

Maybe it's just me, but I've never seen that The Glass Prison actually
has to be about alcoholism. Maybe Mike mentioned it in an interview I
haven't read, but my personal take has been that it's about a peron's
frustration and disempowerment in life that they can't even really
notice until they find the higher perspective from a religious faith, at
which point they're then able to let go of it.
This fits with my overall view of the album, though - mental strife and
the way it's dealt with. The first disc speaks to religion as an answer
to our inner conflicts, the second disc looks at mental illness as what
happens when they spin out of control. Looking at the first disc, we
have the five tracks:
1) The Glass Prison, as I said above, frustration resolved by the
finding of new faith
2) Blind Faith, brutally questioning that faith and its usefulness
3) Misunderstood, loss of faith and searching
4) The Great Debate, question faith's relationship to and outlook on
questions of everyday life
5) Disappear, facing death in light of a final faith ("let him come take
you home").
I haven't done the same thinking about the second CD - does anyone have
similar input for it?

I like the "old style" better Steve. I could definitely relate to your post.
I also like the "new style", but i feel that the old style had a "less
standard" delivery of the lyrics. Plus, on some of the old songs you
analised, the proccess of singing the lines is a little bit more complex
(LtL, for example), and you definitely can't bang your head to some of the
lyrics of PMU (maybe to the music, but not the lyrics, as they often don't
pound with the beat at all, contrary to those on Fatal Tragedy) However,
some songs (old and new) contain both of these elements.....but they appear
much more recently.
It's a very subjective issue...and i don't think that i explained very well
here....but Steve did in his previous post!

What location are you in? I got 6DoIT at my Best Buy and it too was
seemingly sold out on the shelves -- fortunately a kind employee went
back and checked the most recent shipments and found 6 more. :)

Robert, give Magellan a shot. They have that "Trent Gardner"
sound. I'd suggest "Impending Ascension" or "Test of Wills." Their
first CD, "Hour of Restoration," is also good but isn't quite as well
produced.

Well, the big give away that TGP points to alcoholism (besides the
obvious lyrical points) is the dedication in the liner notes --
"Dedicated to Bill W. and all of his friends". Bill W (Wilson) was
one of the co-founders of Alcoholics Anonymous and developers of
the 12-step program. If you read through the 12 steps (do a
Google.com search for it) you'll see that one of main themes is
turning oneself over to a higher power, which seems to be a main
focus of the lyrics... Anyway, my $.02

This little email (in both size, and format) is a quick little missive I decided to fire off the beginning of the year (which, for me and my warped sense of time, I think I either am following the Chinese calendar (year of the horse, by the way), or some derivative of the Greyhawk/Oerthian chronology)...
Again, thanks for the support. As a financially self dependent independent musician (one who get's no funding from corporate accounts or other third-party media congomerates), support from individuals like yourself is the lifeblood of my endeavors. I'm currently finishing up ALL the music for the next CD (more on that at a later date). I do appreciate all the people here and elsewhere (other forums, discussion groups, music boards, social training facilities, mental institutions, etc.) who have to read musician tirades on occasion regarding the self promotion of material and CD's. AT least it's music (and progressive, at that) related, and I'm not going off on a tangent regarding kitchen appliances and the reproduction methods of orangutans. THat's for another conversation.
And sorry, yeah, this email IS longer than I intended... but so is the new federal budget submittal.
