yeah, about that first DT tribute album: what the hell are the songs on
the 2nd disc supposed to be?? i saw it listed on cdnow, and the 2nd disc
had a bunch of songs "by Dream Theater", but with all these goofy-ass
names listed. are they truly covers of DT's, but with different titles,
or don't they have anything to do with DT? does anyone out there have
    this album?? Ilia, perhaps?

    Hi all,

Sorry for the delay ... but I was at Barcellona :

Set list : * The Glass Prison : wow you can only believe this can be played when you see it * 6:00 : wow every time * Beyond This Life : a little breather * Lifting Shadows OAD : OMG I love this song * Surrounded : ART * Burning My Soul : pity it's the worst from FII for me * The Killing Hand : wow I'm glad it's WDADU remaster time ;) * Another Dimension : wow * Peruvian Skies : pity it's the second worst from FII for me * The Great Debate : OMG my fav from 6DOIT (JM go for it baby)

After a little strech, piss & drink : * Battery * Master Of Puppets * The Thing That Should Not Be * Sanitarium * Disposable Heroes * Leper Messiah * Orion * Damage, Inc.

Wow triple f**king wow JP and MP had a great time thrashin away. Cliff looked a lot like JM. JR did an amazing job on the guitar/keyboard translation : quadruple wow. and last but not least James L read most of the lyrics from the ground but sounded great ! I still got the feeling this was for the pleasure of MP and JP though (and all of us fans too :) :) :) ). Not even Metallica have played MOP all the way through (at least I don't think so).

Then we cried and cried till they came back and played : * The Spirit Carries On : Not enough smokers in the place (Mike P will know what I'm talking about the rest of you'll have to guess) * Take The Time (mixed in with "Working Man" and "By Tor And The Snow Dog") : wow I wonder how they guessed we requested this one from the car on our way from France.... I suspect witchcraft.

Last message : Being a bassist, I don't know if it's me but MYUNG is getting better and better (probably because of all his 24/7 playing ;) ) WOW The other guys were amazing too : I liked Mikes double drum sit position on The Great Debate ! :) I'm still not used to JP's new hair (or abscence of :P ).

It was AMAZING even more then amazing. I can't wait till they come back this summer.

If ever any of DT read the jam (even though I said it to Mike P on a friends portable at Paris - on my birthday) Well here it goes again : THANKS THANKS for the great concert ! THANKS for the great album ! THANKS for all the music since the last XX years (couldn't be bothered to count) ! THANKS and don't ever dare stop !

A carbon based life form descendant from the apes.

PS : There are loads of adds on the TV here in France for 6DOIT !!! Go for it DT !!! Go go go !!!

Looks like a decent set, they covered pretty much all the bases on this one. But no solos? No instrumentals (except Orion)?

And what's the deal with MoP anyway, is there any particular reason they're doing the whole thing, or did they do it just because they wanted to? Are they going to keep doing it throughout the tour, or just at certain shows?

Dream Theater authorized and supported this project, and I hope that they do the same if another one comes about.

The first CD consists of nine covers of Dream Theater songs (well, 9 tracks, one of which is a meddley); unfortunately, they aren't so much a tribute, more like parody. The intent is good, but you can't just get up one morning and say, "I think I'll do a tribute to Dream Theater." I would know - I've tried.

The second CD contains original songs by the same bands that did the covers, I'm guessing to promote the less known ones and give the listener an idea of what each bands' original material sounds like. Not half bad, really - they're all right at what they do, so it's not like you'll pay for two CDs and never listen to the second one. Most of these bands are Italian, but there are a couple from US, and one or two from UK and Spain I believe.

Is this something worth listening to? Difficult to say - I enjoyed it, but mostly because I'm a big fan of covers, tributes, remakes, live/alternate versions, even if they aren't quite as good as the originals. This collection isn't for everyone, especially not the people who like to take apart everything even Dream Theater puts out. In other words, it's more like a curiosity/collector's item.

I hope that answers your questions.

This list is barely breathing (on life support).

The forum has more discussion on the MoP cover show. A lot of people are talking about the other classic recordings they'd like DT to cover.

There is this old album called "Awake" that would be a good choice for DT to play in it's entirety. It would be a real suprise to see that old keyboard player (what was his name?) there to play the final song.

Maybe Metallica will play all of I&W on their next tour?

I believe Wayne (Mike Myers) said it best, "Yeah, and monkeys might fly out of my butt." As much of a thrill as it would be for all us old-timer fans to see Kevin Moore make an appearance for one, just ONE performance of Space-Dye Vest, all it really amounts to is a big `ole wet dream for a bunch of DT die-hards. Let's face the music folks: Kevin has done absolutely everything possible to dis-associate himself from DT & the progmetal world. The day that Kevin Moore plays on the same stage with DT again is the day that I quickly grab onto whatever sturdy object I can find, because pretty shortly thereafter, the world will probably stop turning & we'll all fall off. Kevin, love your music & lyrics with DT, and FW studio stuff as well, but me thinks that you suffer from a bit `o the "Eddie Vedder Syndrome". At first, you create really beautiful, talented, & inspired music, but after the first few albums, you begin to hate the fact that people look to you as a gifted and talented musician, thereby proceeding to create just pile after steaming pile of mundane, mediocre forgetable music in an effort to convince the powers that be that you're not as gifted as you truly are. What a waste......
