Wow. I did not know that.

Coincidentally, it's also my 18th wedding anniversary.

    :)

Well, with the year half way over, I thought I'd start a "Best of 2002 (so
far)" compilation. BTW, the CD inventory software of choice, Orange CD
(www.firetongue.com), makes this VERY easy to do...just a couple of clicks.

Not a lot of good 2002 releases so far, but I'm waiting for quite a few
releases later this year (Porcupine Tree, Explorers Club, Magellan, Symphony
X, Gordian Knot, Enchant, John Petrucci, Spock's Beard, The Flower Kings,
Tomas Bodin, Jonas Reingold, Glass Hammer, etc...) and am just catching up
on others - this year (The Jelly Jam, Star One, Rush, Planet X, Brett Kull,
    Threshold, etc...) and earlier.

    Here's my list:

    8. PORCUPINE TREE - STARS DIE: The Delerium Years (reissue) - good stuff,
but I'm waiting for the new album in September.

    7. TY TABOR - SAFETY - okay release, and hopefully I'll be seeing King's X
open for DT and Satch in August.

    6. PAIN OF SALVATION - REMEDY LANE - not as good as Entropia or TPE, but I
need to give it more listens.

    5. JOE SATRIANI - STRANGE BEAUTIFUL MUSIC - best Satch release since "The
Extremist", IMHO. I was pleasantly surprised and I've only been listening
    to it a few days.

    4. DREAM THEATER - SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE - not as good as SFAM
(that is my all-time favorite CD), but still a very solid release.

    3. VANDEN PLAS - BEYOND DAYLIGHT - a very pleasant surprise. I can't
remember where I read about them recently. Someone in one of the mailing
lists mentioned that they liked the vocal harmonies and it was in the vein
of DT-type music. I remember getting the Inside Out Music Sampler 2001 and
relistened to their one tune on that CD, and was hooked. I saw this at the
local Media Play when I had to use some coupons, and haven't regretted the
    purchase at all.

    2. KAIPA - NOTES FROM THE PAST - I purchased this CD at the Flower Kings
show in Detroit in April, and I played it for about two solid months. I'm
still listening to it has it has so many listenable "hooks" to it. I find
myself humming along to different tunes throughout the day, and that makes a
    solid CD in my book.

    1. AND my favorite CD release of the year (so far) is....ECHOLYN - MEI.
I've mentioned this CD recently on a few lists, and I stand by my initial
impression - a new prog masterpiece. This is one long track with no breaks
(almost 50 minutes) and again, very listenable. I pre-ordered this and was
pleasantly surprised. Great stuff and they guys in the band seem like a
very personable bunch from the few messages I've seen.

I'm sure there are those of you who will a) disagree with my picks or b) not
like some (or all) of the bands I like. And you know what? That's okay.
It's music. It's subjective. Just keep that in mind before you flame my
    post and render your "opinion."

Me...I'll be enjoying the good music released this year, the good music from
years past I'm listening to, and look forward to more good music in the
    months ahead.

    Rick

Hi Pam. Not a bad idea at all. That will make for some great listening
    tonight.

It was the weekend. On the weekends many folks don't get near a computer..
heh heh In my neck of the woods it's been raining just about every day
for over a week and Sat and Sun were finally rain-free.....so I enjoyed some
time outdoors and finally got to wash my new 2002 Dodge Ram. There's not
much worse than having a brand new (2 weeks old) DIRTY truck LOL..
