I'm getting conflicting statements on whether D.C. is
sold out or not. Can anyone tell me if it is? And if
it is sold out, does anyone know of 2 tickets that can
    be bought? Thanx

Try to buy a ticket. If you succeed, then you know it wasn't sold out. :-P

I've been told that in the event an individual purchases a copy-protected cd, the label is obligated to provide them with an unprotected disc should they request one. Does anybody know anything about this?

Also, would a program such as Exact Audio Copy be able to circumvent this protection scheme? From what I understand, this protection scheme plays on the error-detecting mechanisms found mainly in pc-based cd-roms, but not in home audio cd-players, so it's more of a firmware issue.

I'll be at that 15th show, too. I want to go to the Saturday show with the special set list, but the only tickets I've found are through a broker at three times the face value.

Mine burnt just fine. Smoked a bit, and the plastic case smelt a bit funny, but...

OK, I didn't burn my 6DoIT, but let's face it, its a joke compared to Scenes. There's a lot I like on there, and the second CD is mostly great, but does nobody else think they've turned into a parody of themselves? And the drum sound is a pile of stinking turd. Same with the guitars. That bit during the first track where Petrucci is playing the 1st fret and open low B string riff when the rest of the band cuts out! Come on, if no-brainer-nu-metallers (and yes I do like a lot of nu-metal)can make seven string guitars sound heavy, why does John's sound like he's amplifying it through a cardboard box? Probably the same cardboard box Portnoy's using instead of a snare.

I don't hate the album, and I'll submit a full review soon so you can see why, but there's so much on there to be pissed off about. I haven't even scratched the surface talking about the production values, and I'm not gonna bring up the lyrics again...

On the plus side, track 4 is awesome. In fact, tune-wise, there's some absolutely outstanding moments in every track. But DT are capable of much, much more than this. There's too much unimaginative soloing from both John and Jordan, too many 'Portnoy cliches' from Mike (who seems to fall further into a rut with each successive album, including Transatlantic). Even James doesn't have the incredible melodies he did on Scenes. The only member I can't fault is John Myung.

OK cheers, I look forward to your comments. Probably pissed a lot of people off, but hell, they're only my opinions. Believe me, there's a lot I like about this album, its just that I've come to expect a lot more from DT...

Dream Theater in Detroit sold out, (at least) two weeks in advance....cool huh?

Of course, my lazy butt found out about it the hard way, trying to buy a ticket yesterday (in my defense, I did go and see my lovely ticketmaster representative back in early February, but that was before the tickets went on sale)....

anyway, if any of you have, or know about an extra ticket for the Detroit, March 19th State Theater show....lemme know about it, willya?

Yeah, it sold out right quick. And the tickets aren't cheap to begin with, much less three times face ;)

I'd rather see a full set of DT material anyways. I enjoy the covers, but would rather bootleg them than pay to see it live.

Hey! I've had the chance to listen to TGP played live on two different concerts I've downloaded, and I noticed that Portnoy doesn't play the amazing double bass drum rhythm on the part where James sings "Desperate, crawling on my knees...". Does that mean that that bass drum rhythm on the album is an overdub or that he just doesn't feel like playing it live or it's too difficult and could probably mess it up if he tried it? I guess it's hard to know the real answer without asking Mike directly, but who knows if somebody on this list knows the answer. If nobody knows, could somebody ask Mike if they have the chance?

On to other topics, I recently got the latest Therion album "Secret of the Runes", and I just wanted to comment that this album kicks major ass. I believe this is their best effort so far. There's not as much orchestration as on other albums, but the vocal arrangements are the best so far and the songs are more upbeat and plainly kick more ass. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of classical orchestrations, but they're a little less prominent.

It's not sold out yet, not so far as I know. If I'm wrong, however, I may know someone who has a ticket to sell. Let me know if you can't find any. Check with ticketmaster, if worse comes to worst.

Petrucci uses no ambient microphones to achieve a particular sound out of his amp. And no, he does not amplify it through a cardboard box, he uses mesa amps. Along with three fine-tuned close mics up to them. Are you sure you were listening to it carefully enough to tell the difference?

"Jing Chi" featuring Vinnie Colaiuta (drums - Zappa/Sting), Robben Ford (guitar - Yellowjackets/Miles Davis), and Jimmy Haslip (bass - Yellowjackets). Very cool album, somewhat laid back, but outstanding musicianship all around. Check 'er out if you're into Bozzio Levin Stevens, et al.

Why is Dream Theater playing the 9:30 Club anyway? Isn't it a bit small for them? I remember going to see the band at the Nation (the the Capitol Ballroom) a few years ago. Much bigger venue, albeit much crappier.

I agree to a certain extent. It seems to me that they are starting to formulate the material a bit maybe. The songs don't seem to be as original and interesting as they used to be, I mean, there are bits when they shine, but I get less emotion from their modern work. I was not much of a fan of anything after Awake. I never really liked Scenes too much, the story never sank with we, always struck me a bit like school English classes. The music was taking on its kind of formulated sound on that album too. Obviously FII sounded formulated, but that was record company fun.

The albums now don't stick with me like they used to. There are moments on the first three which will be with me forever but nothing really on the later discs.

The vocal melodies don't seem to be what the have been, they seem just boring to me now, when they were interesting and emotional before on the earlier discs.

On the bright side though, Vanden Plas - Beyond Daylight, what a fucking brilliant disc. I got both that and the new DT in the same week, but the new VP overshadowed the new DT for me, I stopped listening to 6DoIT for BD and never really went back.

Anyway, I'm probably an asshole or something, so flame away.

Got a few new cds in the radio station today. They are pretty good so I figured I would give you guys notice. Blind Guardian--A Night At The Opera. If you like BG then you will love this. If you never really gotten into them before this could be a good place to step onboard. All of the standard BG stuff is here. Fast, heavy, instruments and soaring vocal lines. Precious Jerusalem is definitely my favorite track on the record. I can listen to the whole album fine. That is usually a good sign.

Angle Dust--Of Human Bondage. I like this album a lot. I don't think it is as good as Enlighten the Darkness. However, I wouldn't hesitate to shell out a few dollars to buy it. There is more emphasis on heavy riffing and hooks in the choruses. There is a very bizarre cover of a Seal song. Who would have guessed that?

Callenish Circle--Flesh, Power, Domination. Have you ever heard a band try really hard to sound pissed off only to come off as silly? Pretty disappointing isn't it. Sometimes it is almost comical. Well Callenish Circle really come off as hard and pissed off without sounding absurd. That is no easy feat. Lots of time changes and great riffs stood out. The only negative I can say about it is the vocals. It isn't totally cookie-monstered out but close enough. Too bad.

Onward--Reawaken. I was really looking forward to this one. I thought "Witches Winter Eternal" off their last album was a great song. Evermoving was a album that showed promise. This album is better written. The production is about the same quality as Evermoving. Night, The Seven Tides of Labyrinthine, My Darkest Room, and The Next Triumph are the strongest tracks. The other half of the album just falls short. I am not really sure why. Perhaps it is just a matter of taste.

I just got home from DT's concert in my hometown. (yes, suddenly, DT has my hometown pinned on their map! they better not take away that pin!) Needless to say, i'm awfully tired, but extremely happy to see this band again, playing great and having TONS of fun. I'll write a review later, because i'm hungry, tired and need to rest to be early for the exam i haven't studied for. I asked a guy at the mixing board to give me the printed set. So, when i write the review, this will be all transcribed.....and that means SPOILERS to some of you. You'll be surprised anyways. Till' tomorrow then! Get a ticket early, don't wait for the concert date to approach, if you don't want to to regret not going to this event at all.

    Mauricio
