Why doesn't Mike say what CBS wanted them to do? Obviously they had time
restraints and DT wouldn't be allowed to perform a 10 minute song. It's
TV. But DT has plenty of 5 minute tracks. Unless they would only allow
them to play a recording in the background, I don't see why DT shouldn't
have done it. It would have been a great opportunity to reach out to
fans. I find the whole thing very odd.
So, why was so bad about a "musical compromise" guys?

I saw somebody in line at the Dinosaur BBQ hut this afternoon wearing a
World Tourbulence shirt. I was just wondering if it was a fellow jammer.
4 days till DT in Rochester... :-) :-) :-)

I think the miming thing sounds like it's the most likely. Of course the tv
station is gonna want them to play something softer, not TGP or some such
track :P But DT have plenty of songs that they could play on tv, and they
play them live in their own concerts, so I don't see how playing something
like The Silent Man would be musically compromising, unless they were asked
to mime.
Personally, I reckon they wouldn't know what to do with themselves :P

Mike has said it was not a time limit. I have watched the morning show for
the past two weeks. a week ago it was Bruce Hornsby sitting in the studio
playing piano with no other musicians. Yesterday it was two unplugged
guitarists, sitting outside. I have not seen a band type situation on there
yet. There also has not been a audience for either performance. I assume
this because you can hear only a few people clapping.
I am very disapointed about this being canceled, however....the last thing I
want DT to do is to compromise their high standards.

According to a post in Mp.com, Mike told the poster at one of the in store
signings that
CBS wanted them to play a stripped down unplugged set, so your exactly on
the money...
DT *has* played like this, but only for their fans, to do this on their
sole appearance
on national TV would definately convey an image that DT is something they
arent, so im guessing thats
why they declined to appear...

Top Ten reasons why DT isn't on the CBS Morning Show
10. CBS Wanted members of "Survivor" cast to appear playing DT's
instruments.
9. DT was under impression they were playing the "Late Show"
8. Band members found out their kids would be watching "Yu-Gi-Oh" instead
of them. ("Sorry Daddy".)
7. Morning Show producers found out "The Great Debate" presented both
sides of the stem cell debate. Show could only support one side at a time.
6. Whoopi Goldberg flatly refused to sing on "The Spirit Carries On".
5. Band members would hve been forced to show up on "Hollywood Squares".
4. CBS asked Dream Theater if they were anything like John Tesh.
3. Couldn't convince Bob Barker to make a special guest appearance.
2. The Siamese Monster wouldn't fit in the studio.
And the umber one reason why DT isn't on the CBS Morning Show...
1. Band refused to be paid in Pontiac Azteks.
