I am enjoying snow, but have not really begun to analyze it yet.
As for Explorers club...I love their first, it is one of my all time favorites. So far on the new one I am disapointed, I hope that changes with a few more listens.

I'm MAD real MAD at the men who organize DT's show dates !
I live in the south of France and I usually have to take a plane or a train to go see DT in concert (for example to Paris, Lyon, Barcellona ect...). Months ago I bought my ticket for Montpellier which is in the south of France !!!. Amazing I don't have to get plane tickets and pay more then 150 euros (same as dollars) to get to see them this year.
Recently (very recently) the foillowing was added to the tour dates : November 8th, Istanbul, Turkey - Rumeli Concert Hall **NEW**
And now due to this NEW date the Montpellier show has been cancelled cause they can't get the gear back from Istanbul fast enough. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So now I've a worthless ticket, I can't get tickets to the Paris shows that have been sold out. And the plane tickets for the other dates are much too expensive at such short notice. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm happy for Istanbul but I don't think it's fair to back out on engagements like that, why don't they ADD the Istanbul date at the end instead of inserting it, or move the Montpellier date !
So now : I don't get to see them this year for the first time in YEARS. :( But I do have my ticket which will be a collectors item in a few years time.
I'll just have to put on my DVD of SFNY again on the 10th of November and pretend to be there, It's a shame, A carbon based life-form
PS : Who does organize DT's show dates ? DT or Elektra ?

I'm a recent convert to SB (only been listening to them for about 1 1/2 years), and I'd have to say Snow is my second favorite of theirs, right after "V." I'm liking Snow the more I listen to it though. I have the 3CD limited edition and I really like the acoustic version of "Looking For Answers" that is on the bonus disc. Give Snow more listens...you may find you'll like it more.
> I also recently got the new album by Explorers Club, Raising the Mammoth, and I like it so far. I haven't heard it enough times to make a full review, but I do have some comments. I think it's not as good as the first one, which IMO is an amazing album, but it's still very good. This new one sounds a little bit more disorganized, although that perception may disappear as I keep listening to the cd. I also think Gardner should have incorporated more vocalists into the album, since it's pretty much Steve Walsh with two special guests. Also, I would have really liked it if the liner notes would have mentioned who is soloing where throughout the songs, since I have no idea of who's who. Myung does a good job as always, but he doesn't do anything spectacular or worth mentioning.
I also just got that new Explorers Club CD, and agree that "Age of Impact" seems better. But I've only listened to 'Mammoth twice, so I need to give it some time.
You may also be interested in Magellan's new CD, "Hundred Year Flood." I'm pretty impressed with that after about three listens, and it's a bit harder than the three previous Magellan CD's.

Hey Alexis, I was wondering the same thing. The jam has fallen silent. Fortunately I've had a chance to give a listen to both Snow and the new Explorers. While I agree that EC1 was incredible, some of Petrucci's best work IMHO, EC2 is decent but lacking. Personally I don't know much of Steve Walsh's work, but he sounds pretty decent on the tracks he has done. Gardner, as usual, does some wacky stuff, riffs that please the ear but are at the same time unexpected in their phrasing and melody. Friedman does a good job, though he's no Petrucci. Snow has a lot of good tracks, however I only listened to it once and haven't absorbed any of the story just yet.

I think there's just too many slow songs on this new one. The story is pretty interesting. I do have a doubt about how the story ends. If you don't want to find out the ending of the story, STOP READING NOW. Alright, for those of you who are still reading, I think there's 3 different interpretations to the end of the story: 1) Snow dies and reincarnates into a new person, 2) Snow gets wasted but survives and the rebirth part is sort of a metaphor for going back to what he was before, and 3) Snow dies and the rebirth part is a metaphor for Snow moving on to another life, for getting into heaven. Here's a few lines straight from the limited edition:
"...Then in the end his friends come and lift him up, bring him to a hospital and back to life. There's a lot more to it but we can't go into [it] right now. Suffice to say, he winds up coming back to them and being renewed in the same way he renewed them. They walk of into the sunset leaving plenty of room for the sequel. That's the gist of it but there's more. We'll leave the rest to you...."
That's the end - there is a lot leading up to it, but I'm not about to type it all in.
Hope that helped!
Take care, Mark Peters epididymisle@earthlink.net
