Good work Paul! :) I'm very impressed by your willingness to share this piece with us and accept critiques. Nice.

I liked it, the thickness of the mix is excellent, a nice full sound. However, I loose some of the guitars in there, they all get muddied together around 2:05/2:20. Personally, I would back the rhythm guitar track down to let the lead stand out more. The writing is very mid-late 80's, took me back to my 'Surfing With The Alien' days. The piano is a good touch. The accoustic is great but disappears amongst the lead and pounding Rhythm guitar. I think you have it all there. Just play with the mix.

My only negative thing... and MOST HardRock bands do this and need to take a cue from the Swing/Jump Blues cats... They are always on Full Volume. The guitar always pounding away, the drums always bashing while the singer is in verse or a lesser part is being played. So many forget how impacting a simple volume adjustment can be in the course of a song.

    But Paul, thanks. Good tune.
If you play around with it more, please post again.

"Gemini" is the title of the song played by Petrucci at the beginning
    and throughout Rock Discipline.

Yeah, I've been trying to get in contact with the DTIFC for a little
while...I sent in my membership application about a month ago by post, and
I've been a bit worried that it might not have got there. I've got no
response to emails asking to confirm if it arrived or not. :-/ But I figure
    they are just busy.

Apparently the Atlanta date at the Tabernacle scheduled for July 1 has
been cancelled, as of a few days ago. Dunno why. :(

Last I checked Mike P.'s site was still showing it, but Ticketmaster had
removed it (if it was ever on there). Pollstar still shows it, but
they're not known for taking shows down too quickly.

I'll have my spies check with the Tabernacle and Clear Channel and see
    what's up.

Since most of you don't have the misfortune to live in Portland Oregon, you won't be able to relate to this..you're lucky.

FII tour 1997.through the kindness of some key people, especially Mike, my son Chris, (13 years old and a budding drummer / Portnoy worshipper) was able to meet Mike for the 2nd time.and spend some QUALITY one-on-one time with him before and after the show.

This first time was the AWAKE tour. Chris (then 10 years old/ budding drummer) got to tour Fates touring bus, (which Mike was driving), a personal tour of Mike's kit (by Mike) and then sat up by Mike during the sound check songs. It was a dream come true for him. We couldn't wait for the next tour. For the next 2 album tours, the stupid-ass-biting-short-sighted-jerk-off-idiot-promoters (my personal opinion} didn't book them back even though both tours, as we know, were very successful. I wrote to the promoter, (several times), sent him press releases of the tour, attendance figures etc. and told him he was missing an opportunity to bring DT to town (and make some money). Today I got the news that they are finally coming back on July 31st.

(F.Y.I., Chris is now 19 yrs old, 6'5", he has been called one of the best rock drummers in the Portland / Seattle area. He still, of course, more than ever, worships the ground Mike plays drums on.) Can't wait to see these guys again. Its about time.

Enough of this Dr. Phil stuff. Peace, out. Warren in Oregon

For some reason the Atlanta show on Tues 7/1/03 was removed. (According to MP)

That's odd. I cashed your money order a few weeks ago and sent confirmation to the DTIFC that your money order had in fact cleared the bank. Please remember, though, that it's taking a few months (yes months) for mail to get from Holland to the US. My personal copy of the fanzine took about 2 months to arrive in California. So I'll have to ask that you be REALLY patient on this one. That whole War in Iraq thing is really fucking with everything. :)

And on that note, I'm going to do my quarterly update on Monday, so if you want to join the DTIFC, do it now! People who join now will get the Spring fanzine. :) US people visit http://www.dtifc.com/usdtifc for details.

Just remember, there's always someone else worse off than you ;P It's cool that Mike did that for you. Also cool that you had a 10 year old (now 19!) son who liked DT!

I will play my kids prog while they're in the womb. Instead of people going "Ooh, did you feel him/her kick?", it'll be "Ooh, did you feel that double kick groove? Felt a bit of Virge influence there!".

I feel sorry for any woman whose baby is practising Dog Boots, though :P

This useless post brought to you by: Friday.

Since I'm turning 21 today, I'm gonna finally rotate those damn songs on my website's download section. Once again, I appreciate all criticisms, unless it's one that tells me my sound quality sucks, cuz I know that already ;) Enjoy, and anyone wanna lend me their house so I can now go drinking in the states?
