When I think of Falsetto, I think of the BeeGees, the Beach Boys, and
certain 50's tune such as "My Little Runaway" and "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".

Is my perception of falsetto correct, or do those songs/groups just employ a
    very high head voice?

    -Dan.

The Lion Sleeps Tonight I think is a good example. I can only know when I myself am singing falsetto, I sort of can't tell when others are :)

The best example is LaBrie on the humming part of Speak To Me...

Actually, no, you're right about the falsetto. And going back to what I
said earlier, think about the amount of air support that the BeeGees are
giving to those high notes. They're obviously quite relaxed notes,
obviously evidence that the notes are sung with very little subglottal
pressure. Thus, the light tone that you're hearing is indeed falsetto.

Thanks Andrew. That was very interesting. And talking about great
vocalists, am I the only one who thinks the three finalists in American Idol
can all sing extremely well? And that kid Clay has one hell of a voice.
Wow. I keep calling to vote for him but the damn phone is busy all the
time. I think the final two will be Clay and Ruben, although Kimberly sings
    great too.

You forgot Frankie Vallie and the 4 seasons for classic flasetto.

i agree w/ andrew about the relaxed sound that some falsetto singers have. i also think of some singers who sort of yodel like chris isaak. that guy can hit some high notes and still sound relaxed. but i think it all comes down to talent. either you can do it very well, or you end up trying to compensate somehow. just my opinion, jacko

I'm probably repeating myself, but Daniel Glidenlow. I yet have to hear a better all-around vocalist.
