Are these the same sources that said the band is breaking up after this
album? Or the sources that said they got a new singer? Or the sources that
said Kevin Moore has testicular cancer? Or the sources that said the
actual album title is "Waiting for Godot?" ;)

    Just wondering,

That was me. Although, I don't recall putting a winky in.

Uhm... What are YOU using for your information? Because not only have I
    had it confirmed to me by somebody who spoke to one of the band members;
the title on the song for the DT song contest (it's listed right there on
the whiteboards in the pictures for the contest) is "S.O.C.", and what's
more, the times match up. I also believe that Itchy posted it on his
weblog in his review of the album, which appears to have been taken down
    already.

So how, exactly, am I wrong? Don't tell me you downloaded the songs...
because, uh, there aren't any actual real versions of the songs that you
can find online. Anything on the P2P networks is fake.

Again, I'm asking you how you know that I'm wrong. Given all of the
information I've gotten to date, I said with all belief what I felt was
true. However, I DID have more information than the average fan, so I
felt reasonably assured that I was right.

If I'm wrong, then so be it. But how on earth are you going to come onto
the list and post a rebuttal without any proof whatsoever? I mean, if
that were the case, then we could argue about it all day.

    "You're wrong!"
    "I'm not!"
    "You are!"
    "Am not!"

Aha! Found Itchy's comments, which have been taken down (they were in a
message on MP's forum, listed under a revision that has since been edited
out--you can read what changes were made to a person's post if you click

The messages I sent ... well, it will be yesterday by the time this one gets out there ... appeared in the wrong order. But I'm not so sure it matters.

I have been talking with the people I mentioned before, who had said that they had the album. I even asked to hear some of it so I could check it out for myself. I'm not so sure they have it at all.

I haven't seen it talked about here, but I'm thinking someone has been "leaking" incorrect versions of the new tracks deliberately. In this case, there is supposedly a promo version of "As I Am" floating around, but the "full" version (the reason I thought it was 45 minutes as opposed to 41) is COMPLETELY different, and I don't think DT did it. James is obviously singing, but the band sounds like a mainstream modern rock act compared to genuine DT. I haven't been up on James' side projects, but I'm assuming a lot of this stuff is from those.

Some of the other tracks sound like they *could* be DT, but they sound in ways more like Superior, in the singing and the drums. Also, the musical direction doesn't sound ... I don't think DT would close an album the way their tracks do. Basically, I can't be confident of anything at this point.

I think a lot of people think they have leaked versions of the album, when that might not truly be the case. I would think it was funny if I hadn't recently accused someone on the list of giving out false information. :(

The track they have called Stream of Consciousness is definitely not an instrumental, but it is not certain at all if that is the real deal or not. SO... I apologize to whoever it was that said SoC was an instrumental. I came off like thay must have been lying or just trying to act like they knew more than they did. But ... for all I know as of this point, they could very well be right.

But this couls be a heads-up as well for some of you who might run into "leaked" tracks. Some of them are pretty good, especially the one they have under "In the name of God" ... I'm actually pretty curious to know what that is, because if it's not DT then it's definitely worth checking out.

Well, if nothing else, this might stir up some conversation ... even if the conversation is just "Shut up, dumbass, we already knew everything you just said!" :)

actually, he's quoted as feeling called to "do something else", as taken from his own statement on radiant records' site. it's not that he feels that he can't do music anymore, just that the "Spock's" period in his life is now over.

    http://www.radiantrecords.com/news.htm

also, for some more info, straight from neal's mouth, check these other links out. you'll find more out this way than by being presumptuous and sarcastic because of a man's beliefs & faith. to do so almost cheapens what he's given us this far, since they were his beliefs then as well. according to him, a lot of those songs which we love so much were inspired in one way or another by the very thing you just chose to belittle, mike. whether you agree with him or not isn't the point. http://www.deliciousagony.com/1-NealMorse-10-29.mp3 (this will auto-download the actual mp3 archive of the interview) http://www.revelationz.net/index.asp?ID=425 (another post-spock's interview, just text this time :))

if anything, you'll at least have a clearer perpective through neal's own words as to what's going on, as opposed to just sitting back and making jokes due to assumption. -eric

    What are you smoking ?

Ok, besides the ACOS EP, and since AWAKE, when was the last Dream Theater CD that wasn't at least 70 minutes in length ?

As for your statement about "Stream of Consciousness" NOT being an instrumental? You are sadly mistaken. Why not go to www.mikeportnoy.com and read the info for yourself ?

    go here: DT Songwriting Contest

    http://www.mikeportnoy.com/forum/tm.asp?m=273260

You may be interested in this statement from MIKE himself:

"Here is our handwritten chart for one of the tracks on the upcoming DT album. In fact, this track is an instrumental (ooohhh I gave away a detail of the new CD!!!)

Using a song without vocals will eliminate the IMPOSSIBLE task of you having to guess a song title, lyrics and melodies. So...all you need to worry about is drums, guitar, keyboards and bass! (Oh, it should be easy now!!) "

Have fun on that page. Take notice of the pictures on that page.

Particularly the very first picture that says Song # 7 Instrumental ( S.O.C. )

Hey all. I deleted the previous jams by accident, but there was a thread going on here about trying to guess who wrote which songs.

Somebody said that Stream of Consciousness was an instrumental that DT was using in some competition. They even said something like "Trust me, guys ;)"...

Well, here's what I have to say about that. I don't know what DT is using in any competition, but as for Stream of Consciousness being an instrumental .. that's a load of crap.

Why would you come onto the list and act like you have inside information, and then say something wrong like that? Well, maybe there is an instrumental version in some competition; I only even know of a competition's existence from reading my email. But if so, that's not the album version.

Hopefully I don't piss anyone off here... I would have just kept quiet about it, but when someone puts out something incorrect with a "trust me" attatched to it, I have to chime in. :)

Mis-information travels a lot quicker these days.

It's all good, we appear to have it straightened out.. Can't wait to drive to the local store on release day and buy the CD. Schedule will be cleared that evening after work for sure.

I guarantee you that they downloaded it off of someplace like KaZaA, which I know for a fact has users on it who are hosting "fake" files, much like Portnoy did. As JM Souter said, many of the files are from Superior's Younique album.

Not sure what the other version is, but I'm certain that one of them is from "Leonardo: The Absolute Man;" I forget exactly which song it is. I haven't heard any of them myself, so I'm not sure.

I apologize for going off on you, but you're right: it did sound like you were accusing me of lying.

The good ol' green... that'll keep me occupied till november 11 :)

Damn straight! I should hope that with 7 songs, the boys make them at least 10 minutes each ;)

Anyone pre-ordering the CD? I have done so and have thought for long days thinking whether or not it's worthwhile. The only reason to pre-order is if your fave record shop will be sold out or will not have it at all, right? If I pre-order it, it gets shipped the same day the record shop gets the CD but it takes 2-14 days air mail for it to get to me. Sounds more worthwhile to just go to a store and buy it (saves 5$ shipping cost too...). Is pre-ordering more worthwhile than I give it credit for?

I pre-ordered in the past, but in Dallas/Fort Worth I haven't found a shortage of DT CD's readily available on release day or thereafter. And there wasn't any shipping charge at the store :)

Could any of it be leaked from James' project Frameshift?

I'd be willing to go ahead and say a big negative on that one. Though I haven't heard any of the stuff, everybody on the MP.com forum is saying that it's either Superior or from Leonardo. I did happen to see that a "radio edit" of As I Am was on KaZaA, but it was pretty obvious that it was from Mullmuzzler 2, given that its filename was "07 - Save Me.mp3".

So I'm pretty sure that I can say that there is no Frameshift stuff in there.
