And the great thing about the band releasing official boots and behind the
scenes CDs is that the BAND makes the money.
Man I'm all for that and would like to see more bands do that. Not only for
the fans, but to earn some well deserved cash flow for themselves rather
than the greedy record labels.
What do you think ?

For me, In the Name of God is probably my least favortie song on the album
besides As I Am, but live I thought it was freaking awesome. One thing I've
noticed listening to bootlegs is that you can pick out a lot of things that
you didn't notice live. James never sounds as on pitch when you listen to a
boot at a reasonable volume. At the show when the volume is so cranked up,
a lot of the little pitch mistakes and stuff are hard to notice. I didn't
notice them rushing when I saw them, but once again I think it is a lot of
the same reasons. If you're sitting there at a concert thinking about them
rushing a little I think you need to loosen up and just enjoy the show
more. :)

Wow. I've only been here since 1995, and I didn't even know that 10 years
have gone by on the jam. this place is far from what it used to be. I miss
the old crew and having a place to chat with all you lunatics. I remember
the brief run at a voice chat ytsejam channel. Good to see that my few
favorite ytsejam girls are still here, too. Oh well, back to work.

Your scale length most likely is the cause of your problem. I have no problem on my 25.5" scale length guitars using a .046" string tuned down to C# (drop-D, all strings a half step down). It does surprise me that 050" still causes you a problem, but I haven't gone through the math to see how much difference in string tension there is. I'm using a .052" on one of my guitars for the E string tuned down to C# and that works well too. *shrug*
If you have a tremolo, make sure that's set up correctly with the new gauge of strings, as well as the truss rod to maintain a proper bow in the neck.
I don't see anything about this on johnpetrucci.com, but I remember Michael Romeo answering a question about his string gauges on an IRC chat a few years ago (he tunes all strings down a whole step). The details of his answer escape me at the moment.
Good luck,

Not sure how far my own imperfect Ytsejam archives go back....but they're all disjointed and I'm missing segments. I've been keeping the last few years' worth, though. I never left the Ytsejam, despite the occasional dire promise to quit during the Bad Times. :)

Oh hi! Yes, I'm here since mid 1996, back when I was in the middle of graduate school, getting into arguments with David "Wild Koba" Kobayashi (remember him? good guy...) and whomever else. I miss the Bafu Vai posts, Mike Bahr inadvertently turned me onto Type O Negative, some guy I traded tapes with in Colorado turned me onto Porucpine Tree, Chris Ptacek turned me onto Symphony X, Dr. Mosh turned me onto Conception, Chris "D-Man" Merlo turned me onto Spock's Beard, and somewhere along the way lots of other bands filtered into my bloodstream because of people on this list. Who knows where I'd be or how many fewer people would hate my guts without our beloved Ytsejam. No other mailing list has had as much of an effect on my life. Cheers!

I have been on the 'jam since 1995. Since that time I have met in person several ytsejammers, and been to about 20 DT gigs.
I got involved in quite a few flame wars and arguments back in those days when I was still young and foolish. :-)

First post you have archived is an unsub request -- how appropriate.
Ytsejam started as ytsejam@bnf.com after the Los Angeles Troubador concert, so my guess is that it started in November 1992. It was created at the request of Paul Ferraro, Jason Hough, and Brian Vogelsang. We were all fans of When Dream and Day Unite which we read about in Kerrang! back when it was reviewed. Brian was in the early fan club so he let us know when he received the Metropolis promo. I'm pretty sure the first post was from kbibb@bnf.com saying that the list was live.
I might still have the archives on a backup tape. The list has gone through several hardware iterations and the original disk holding the archives was gone around 1996 when we upgraded from a Sun IPX to a fully loaded SPARCstation 2 (which had its power supply die in 2000).

Thats what I like about DT "the mixed people", you get : metal heads rock heads pure prog heads oldies very youngies middle agedies bouncers moshers dancers (hey Loic remember that ! ;) ) sitters musicians listeners singers air drummers
What you don't get are the unhappy ;)
Talking about mixed crowds => I remember back in the late 80's the crossover concerts from DRI, that was a bitch cause you'd get hard core punks and thrashers together... I even remember some getting in with razor blades ! I'm glad that's over !

Opeth don't have much of a mixed crowd, but I was impressed to see a father turn up with two kids who looked around 12 years old. The kids were wearing black with metal shirts, they looked into it :P
"And what music do you like, little Joe?" "DEATH FUCKIN METAL!!!! \m/ \m/"

Holy shit, how good is that solo in Hollow Years?
Awesome! Thanks Chris!
Hmm, great quality too, I had forgotten it was a boot.

Ya know.....since I have seen the video of your naked backside....(nice mental kodak to start the day :)) I think this should be most fun! We should do this at one of the many after parties...or hey at the Pre-Show! And yes.....said noodle will be wetter than wet!

Been a _long_ time since I've posted, but havn't seen any comments from the Oakdale show yet. I was so incredibly surprised that they played (To Live) Forever, with an extended instrumental towards the end!!!!!!!! That, followed by A Fortune In Lies! Great set list, overall. Hoping for some more surprises tonight in Boston.
BTW, whoever posted the Toroto show mislabed a track. They have Puppies On Acid, which should be Only A Matter Of Time.
As far as older digests, one of these days, I'll see if I can find some really old ones on some old QIC80 tapes I have sitting around...
