Yeah, it's pretty dependent on how the song is mixed/produced. I'd bet, too,
that even when it does work, you're losing other stuff that you didn't want
cut out.

Very well put, Jim. I echo your posting. It's kinda what I was trying to
say before I got off on one of my tangents. I find certain sections in
these songs to be too hard to even listen to which is weird for me with DT.
Examples are any of the rapping/distorted vocals or the end of TDS, some of
the soloing that for me sacrifices melody for speed, the "Home" sounding
section in ITNoG...you all get the idea. Yeah there are some good parts in
there too. There is a passage in HTF which I think should have been either
broken out of that song or something.
I agree that DT is very happy with themselves (well JP and MP that is). But
I think it's still important for those not satisfied to say so. The same as
it is important for those that love ToT to say that. The band needs to know
what their fans think and hopefully they listen to both sides, since this
album has people on each side of the fence.
As for touring, like I said, if they come to Albany then I will go. Like
Jim, I have no interest in hearing the new material live save ITNoG or maybe
SoC. I could deal with both of those but the rest I would pass on. Someone
mentioned how great the lights will be. I will take a setlist I like over
fancy lights anyday of the week. Rush plays friggin 'Tom Sawyer' with
lasers every year and I hate that damn song...if they played 'The Pass' in
the pitch dark, I'd be happier!!!

speaking of Rush, has anyone snagged the "Rush in Rio" DVD?? it's fookin'
incredible. not only do they play an awesome show, but 'The Pass' comes
across probably in my most favortie live rendition yet. Peart actually
smiles a few times, and plays some very inspired parts. hell, all 3 of
them are in top form here, & they are DIGGIN' what they're doing!! they
have a blast, & the crowd (60,000 psychotic Brazilians!!) just radiates
the energy into this show. get it if you haven't already.
that's my story, & i'm stickin' to it. peace.
