Basket Weaver
Location : Ban Bu Thom

Basket weaving is a craft passed on from generation to generation. It takes a day to make a basket which might sell for 450B ($10) Children learn to weave baskets, and can make money on their own without having to ask parents for money. Rattan, from which the baskets are made is in short supply now. This wood is now imported.

Elephant Trainer
Location : Ban Ta Klang

Elephant Trainers are used to get elephants to do man's bidding. Chained here as American's might chain a dog to a tree is an elephant. Elephants are quite intelligent and can understand many Thai phrases. A 2 ton elephant can eat 400 pounds a day. Since thailand has deforested most of its jungles, only 23% of Thailand today is Jungle. Logging has now been banned by the Government, and Elephants are mostly used for show or tourism now.
