Subject: How do I get the digest?

I've heard mention of the digest. How do I get it instead of 10-20 mails
every day. Seeing that I won't check my mail for a while over break,
I'd like to have some control over my mail when I come back.
(25 digests rather than 350 ytsejam emails)
That way I could more easily sift out emails from friends collegues (sp?).

I never mentioned this before, but has anyone else heard the acoustic
version of "Another Day"? When DT was in Toronto, they appeared on
the Q107 6 O'Clock Rock Report and talked about I&W and treated the
good listenership to an acoustic "Another Day". Well actually is was
only Petrucci and LaBrie that were there...Unfortuneatly I was listening
in my car and could not tape it! (Story of my life...)

Later!

Keep the double riff in the faq, since it's so noticable to some folks, and
therefore a probable frequently asked question, but make a note that the music
isn't really that close, it just kinda sounds that way for a moment.

They played the same version on 98Rock in Baltimore before the 2nd
Hammerjacks show.

What would you guys think if I mentioned that it was a much looser
double than the one in WFS-LTL (which I hope you all have heard by now)...

Well, change it to "similar melody". What he's playing is closer to what
James is singing, and almost nothing like the guitar part.

Well, I read in yesterday's digest that Bombay Vindaloo was completely
improvised. Only problem is that they did do it at other shows, so it
was not brand new only for the LAtM show. I have a copy of Images and
Tour! which has BV from Salt Lake City. No idea about the date
though...

>Take The Time

>-4-2-----5^6-4----4-2---4-2----- >-----2---------4------2-----3--- >-------------------------------- >-------------------------------- >-------------------------------- >-------------------------------- > >Bill Bajzek

I got the impression that Michael Bahr was comparing the melody James SINGS in "Pull Me Under" (i.e. "This world is ...) to the riff John P. does at 4:18 in "Take the Time" rather than comparing guitar parts. So I tabbed James' melody, shifted up one whole step, and simplified it a bit (since vocal lines tend to involve slurs and grace notes):

Pull Me Under (This World is spinning around me...)

-4-2-----5-4-2----4-2---7-5-4-1-- -----2---------3------2---------- --------------------------------- -------------------------------- -------------------------------- -------------------------------- These melodies are similar, but the big difference is that the "Pull Me Under" riff (as shifted up a whole step) is in the key of F# MINOR while that of "Take the Time" is in F# MAJOR.

That being said, I reach the same conclusion that Bill Bajzek does-these are two different riffs and not a deliberate quoting of one song from another like Learning to Live/Wait for Sleep.

Of course every time I hear that part now in "Take the Time", I think of "Pull Me Under". I never would have noticed it if Michael Bahr hadn't pointed it out because my ear is used to thinking of major and minor melodies as two separate things. Kind of a little shortcoming on my part and I have to thank Michael for helping me realize this.

Well, he says that "John plays the same lick in TTT"

I think the conclusion James and William have reached on the reusable riff matter is correct, or damn close to it. I'll update the FAQ accordingly. The fact that one was in a major scale and the other in a minor was what I hadn't relized. I know now what that is referring to.

The lick crossover between TTT and PMU is more than a coincidence, but less than the crossover between Wait/Learning.

Did you notice the BV on the SLC tape plays with a different acoustical feel and is half a minute shorter than the one on LATM? It is my suspicion that this boot used LATM as a naming reference.. whereas like Moon Bubbles, it's probably mostly improvisation.

The liner didn't give the date on those tapes unfortunately. Mike/garion@indirect.com

Is Terry Brown *definitely* producing the next DT album? If so, should be interesting...he did a great job on the "Status Seeker" and "Afterlife" remixes. Who else has he produced since he stopped working with Rush? (Other than Fates Warning, of course.) Anyone out there in the northern Virginia, D.C., Baltimore area know of any good sources for boots? I'm looking, initially anyway, for the Dance of Eternity boot, but if any others spark my interest....

Where do all of you find these things? Please, educate me! Oh yeah, and thanks for the advice, Mike.

FATES WARNING

Can anyone give me info about it? [Mailing lists, fan clubs, etc]

(Incidently....Fates Warning is listed under "Special Thanks To:" on the inlay card of I&W)

Thanks in advance, won't post about them again, etc, etc, etc...
