Someone on here was wondering about Magellan. Well, I'm a fairly big fan of
theirs, and hope to do a phone interview with them this weekend. (Any
questions?) They have 2 albums out now, the second being Impending Ascension.
This album has some great songs on it, especially Waterfront Wierdos, which has
Duane Doane from Jethro Tull on drums. Unfortunately, it can only be gotten as
an import, something that theyare trying to resolve for their next album.
Last time I talked with them, they were talking about a new album, but nothing
set in stone. (Although they said that their label wanted them to do one
    pronto!:)

Best bet to get them: either Ranjit (I think he has it), or Sights & Sounds.
WARNING: I know Bob Wolf, but lots of people heave had problems with him. At
your own risk. Supposeddly he's trying to fix it these days.
    GENESISMAN@AOL.COM for more info.

Cathedral: Has anyone heard their second album, "There in the Shadows"?
Pretty decent album. They have a bit more metal in this album, and there is a
song or two in there that I would like to see done by DT (The Wayfarer). This
might have been deliberate, since a lot of the keyboard bits sound like the
same keyboard that Kevin uses (not the same riffs, but the same sound).

    Anyone? Bueller?

    Subject: bootleg co-op

Hello once more... Just a quick update on the bootleg co-op idea. I
have talked to Saul today (well, emailed, but you know what I mean)
and he said that he has had ALOT of responses (I think that he told me
that there are already over 100 responses from the U2 mailing list
alone!!!) I have not had quite as many, but I also directed people to
    mail Saul also...

It does look like we definatly can do this. After forwarding some
people's concerns over to Saul, here are some answers to some of the
    more common questions:

    1. What will the price be?
judging by the fact that there are some places that already
sell boots in the US for $17, we should be able to get them for alot
    less.

    2. Problems importing discs, and customs?
as long as everything is done paying full customs and tarrifs,
etc, there should not be a problem.

    3. Organization?
That is were we really need help from everybody. I would like
to ask for a volunteer from every list to help organize everything...

What we need is to get someone from each mailing list to collect
names, and to post messages, and collect the important questions.

One final problem might be handling people outside of the US. I am
not sure if any difficulties would arise from this.

Anyone, if you would be interested in helping to organize everything
for a mailing list, please let me know.

For any questions, feel free to write to me or Saul
    (hockeypens@aol.com)

What is the band up to now? Touring, recording, goofing off, what? I had this address in my mailer, but don't currently receive the list due to time constraints. Could some kind fellow DT fan e-mail me and bring me up to date on the latest news regarding a new album and tour. I have not yet had a chance to see DT live, so I am especially curious if I will be able to anytime in the near future. Thanks.

Gawd yes, count me in, too. I've ordered DoE from ranjit@netcom.com (price including shipping $49.90) and I'm counting the hours 'til it gets in. :)

I can't believe they have LATM under Dream Theatre. It used to be under the right name DREAM THEATER. Well I guess it makes sense since for Mr Big you get the domestic listing and for Mr. Big you get the imports (or vice versa). I wonder how many other groups they have messed up.

    Tim! Wow! Thanks for sharing!

    _____ >From Tim:

My piano teacher turned me onto Mike Stern because he knew I also played guitar. I first picked up Jigsaw in June of 92. After listening to that way too much (and still never tiring of it), I bought Odds or Evens in November. I had always tried to transcribe some parts from Jigsaw. I worked on the title track days after I got it and then Rhyme or Reason around the time I picked up OoE. Eventually, my jazz/rock band decided to cover Jigsaw at my high school talent show. I transcribed guitar, bass, and saxophone parts. Performance for us (a trio) was quite a practicing and technological feat. I covered sax and piano/organ with my set of keyboards and let my drummer's sequencer cover the pretty simple bass line. At one point the sequencer had to play the sax parts because the piano part was difficult and I thought I should always be doing the most difficult stuff. As soon as the verse progression switched back into the simple synth part, the sequencer took over and I moved to the sax melody doubling the guitar part. All I can say is that it was incredible fun. And for all the times that I listened to Jigsaw before I starting hardcore transcription, during, and afterward I still love that song. The whole album is awesome as is Odds or Evens. I borrowed the Time in Place CD from my local library and loved Gossip and Chromazone. I have the sheet music for Chromazone and almost covered that in the same band, Speed Limt 9. Later, for a graduation gift, my friend (the guitarist in our trio) bought me Standards. It is a mellow album to listen to with a lot more straight ahead jazz. I like it but find Stern's fusion efforts much more exciting. I know he has a new album out, but I am too poor to go buy it now that I am a college student. Let me know if you ever get any more Stern albums. He is just the man.

    Tim

By the way, Mike Stern's wife is a very talented guitarist who has a style much like his. Her name is Magdalena Stern, but she goes publicly by Leni. I've never found any of her albums, but my piano teacher told me I would hardly be able to tell the difference between her and her husband. Hasta... ------ End of Forwarded Message

G'Day all, Was listening to The Beatles:Revolver today, and it occured to me that i was SURE that "Tomorrow Never Knows" was the first "progressive rock" song. IMHO it has that right "feel" that i have always associated with what i have felt to be "progressive rock". Does anyeone else out there share this same feeling about this song, as being the start of the music that we have come to know and love? Or, was there something that came earlier that could be sighted as more of an influence on progressive rock?
