I heard that one of those guitar mags, I think its Guitar for the
Practising Musician, is having a new compilation album out and Dream
Theater is supposed to be on it. Is it my imagination or did someone
say that Bombay Vindaloo was gonna be on it? Is it the same live version
that is on LatM?
Please let me know what you know!!
BTW - where would I look for this in a record store? I guess it would
be in the "compilations" section or somthing...

Wow! Sounds awesome! I have one question - the only thing you
didn't mention in that VERY complete post was who to make the check out
to, you or "Feel The Rush! Music" :) I assume you, but just to confirm?

Quick note on the Rush video montage:
Make out the checks or money orders to me, Michael Bahr. I'll be
cashing them on a humble, ordinary, checking account. :)

Mike P. is right on the money. I don't give a damn how well Petrucci
improvises, Dream Theater (and most prog.) is the total antithesis of improv.
music. How many great improvisers can pen tunes like UaGM, TKH and "A Change
of Seasons?" Very few, most likely. The important part is that when he's
playing his own stuff (Comfortably Numb? Who cares? David Gilmour could
inspire a whole other discussion on repetitive and tasteless lick playing) he
kicks ass while doing it. His doubled solo with KM in TKH is nothing short
of superb, as is the case with most everything he plays. Improv. does not
the player make.

Regarding Petrucci sucking at the guitar clinic:
I don't know what to say. For starters, I hope the original
poster doesn't get flamed. He's just posting an opinion, the way he
sees things. He's not trying to start shit, so don't start shit with him,
please (to anyone who was thinking of doing so).
Anyway, I am shocked. Petrucci was probably my favorite guitarist
just because I thought he was so well rounded - tasteful, technically
amazing, innovative, a good imrovisor, etc. He is still a god, of course,
but it is a little dissappointing to find that he is not so well rounded
as I thought. At the same time, it makes me feel slightly better because
I am a guitarist who sucks at improvising and it bgives me some comfort
to know that even the Overlord of the Six String Universe has trouble in
that area.

I just wanted to let you all know that there are lyrics for all of Awake at the FTP site... For those of you who don't know, the FTP site is at: ftp.netcom.com
dir: /pub/drkhoe/dt
I am not sure when they will be moved from the (hidden) incoming dir into their permanent home, but they are there...
