    Hi all,
this is my second attempt to contribute to the discussions here, the
    first never made it :(
Anyway, it may be hard for some of us to recover from the shocking
news that Kevin has left DT. I think we can rest assured that it'll
still be Kevin we hear on AWAKE. With that in mind we should be able
to lighten up, and bearing no hard feelings to his replacement. I
understand from other discussions that Jens Johansson know how to use
his keys, so I'll welcome him right away (is he on this list ??? I
    think I read that somewhere...)
    Look at it this way:
If Kevin isn't satisfyed with the musical direction of DT, it would
show on their perfomance, and no one wants that (well, I don't). I'd
rather see (hear) a happy member in the band (five happy members,
    actually).

One last thing, and I think I speak for all us: Good luck in your
future musical career, Kevin. We are looking forward to hear what you
    do.

Oh, I must certainly disagree. This tune kicks ass. It did take me about
two listens to get used to it, but I've listened to it about forty times in
two days. Sure its heavier, but its so interesting. Even if you make the
comparison to Pantera, fine, Pantera only lacks because of Phil's vocals (no
flames please). Labrie certainly makes this non-Pantera. This song is just
    ball-crushing fantastic.

Mine dowloaded onto a Silicon Graphics machine, and I'm not real familiar with
the hardware or the sound card (someone set it up for me after I downloaded it)
but I do know that I have CD quality here. Not sub-FM as someone stated
yesterday. Now all I need is to hook up a tape deck and record it. Then for
those of you who can't get it, I can probably provide. Mike Burstin said he
thought a new song was going to be put up every two weeks, so you might want to
    wait. Or maybe you don't.

    I must go listen again!

I meant to post this today, but forgot, so I guess now I'll do it - although
I don't really feel like doing much after the news - including listening to
LIE. I think the song should now be called BETRAY.

sadly, (and I'm still not sure I believe it)

Please tell me this is a crock!!! Not to insult Jens (I'm a big fan of
his too!)...but Kevin is one of the main reasons I'm into DT (The
keyboards are what make the band complete)...and I'd hate to see him take
off (even though I;d definetly support his music regardless of DT!)...I
    hope it's a farce!

Well, the GIF file was a very small file... The Lie WAV is a HUGE
MONSTER... posting it here would flood many people's mailboxes, kill
disk limits for readers, and crash many machines along the way... If
anyone wants a smaller version emailed, I _might_ be able to do it...
but keep in mind, even the smaller ones are nearly 4 megs, and
UUENCODing adds to the file size...

Wait Wait Wait.....Has anyone bothered to CONFIRM this news of Kevin Leaving DT? The guy in Japan called Atco/eastwest and they denied it. Has anyone bothered to call the US office for atco/eastwest or their management? Look at a band like Guns N Roses.....how many bs rumors have we heard about them that have been claimed to come from "sources close to the band".

I find it very hard to believe that Kevin Moore would up and leave DT to pursue " other musical ventures" when he seems to fit in DT so nicely.

I'd just like to throw my opinion out there about the recent developments concerning Kevin Moore's depatrure from DT, and Jens Johanssen's addition to the lineup.

Personally, after listening to "Lie" and thinking about the change for a few hours, I honestly think this is going to be good for all parties involved. If "Lie" is any indication, DT is moving towards a more heavy approach, (Balls and Chunk) something which I had hoped for on the new album. The addition of Jens will be a great asset to the band, and perhaps he will fit in better with this more aggressive style of music. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to slight Kevin Moore in any way; He is very talented, and I'm sure his next project will be awesome in it's own right. I am looking forward to see what sort of musical direction he heads in.

Yes, Jens is on the list, and no, don't go poking for his email address, because if he gets mail flood, our great fortune at having a direct line to Dream Theater themselves goes bye-bye. I left it out of the FAQ and it won't be in new posts, so the way I figure it, there are only two ways to get it. One of those two is to have it given to you for no reason. :) The other? Think for a minute...

Oh BTW... I don't mean to speak for DT in this matter, only for the members here on the list who don't want this connection to dry up. There are about a half dozen of us here on Ytsejam who have been rather constantly communicating about DT (and Rush) and I think I can safely say that all of us are quite excited about recent developments, though we are a bit depressed that Kevin left.

Damn. I guess this isn't a joke (like the fake Mike Portnoy posting a few months back). What worries me is that he left over "musical differences." Since those who've heard stuff from Awake say it's a lot heavier, is this the new direction the band will take? Perhaps (as is evident in a few interviews) some members of the band hate being labled as merely progressive. It seems to me that Kevin was the most "progressive" element in the band (like ELP, Yes, etc...). Since he'll be gone, will the keyboard influence start to get written out of DT? Hopefully, Jens will be able to hold his own when as they create new material. (this is not a flame on his musicianship, merely a fear that his influence won't be as strong as Kevin's was). Perhaps he could shed some light here...

Well, its only a matter of time before we find out.
