Yes! Yes! Yes!! Another 'jammer in the UK!! One that lives in Guildford
too! I was beginning to give up hope...Man, we've gotta get together
and go to a few gigs next year (along with Jezza if he's still about).
    Hey, that's a good point....

WHAT THE HELL ARE THE DATES???!!!

Sorry to be so blunt, people, but I really do need to know, and NOBODY
round here knows buggery squat (sorry, English expression) about it.
Please, guys and galls, I'm begging here, someone tell me the UK
    dates....

Anyway, the EP, yeah... It'll be out next year and it'll have the
studio versions of A Change of Season, Eve and To Live Forever on it,
along with a new unnamed track (oooo!), but if you can't wait that
long, run, don't walk, to your nearest decent record store (oh, sorry,
your in Guildford, aren't you. There's no such thing as a decent record
store in Surrey) and purchase the current UK releases of Lie. The CD's
got To Live Forever on it as a B side, as well as Another Day, live at
    the Marquee.

Hope this helps, and maybe I'll see you when I'm back in Guildford next
    week.

    Byee!

I was just reading someone's message and they mentioned a program for
Windoze called CASELINR. I was wondering if this program is available
via ftp anywhere or does one have to go out and buy it *chuckle*. Any
help would be appreciated. Please e-mail to me directly since I rather

There is a pogram called caslinr which prints j-cards for tapes (runs under windows) it works real well (That was for whoever was asking anbout it...)

Also, a request to fellow ytsejammers:

I really want to get my hands on the following... Lost in the Sky (I checked with Ranjit on netcom and the price was $50 US!!! which is an awful lot in Aussie dollars)

a PAL copy of Live in Tokyo. My local record store tried to find it (they managed to get O:Livecrime and Building Empires for me) but couldn't... Has it been released in the UK?? You guys have PAL I assume?

If anyone can help me with these (even just a pointer in the right direction) I would greatly appreciate it...

Just got the latest Guitar World (the one with all the punk crap this month) with the Erotomania tab. I play keyboards so I tried out some parts, and the tab is surprisingly accurate for the most part (I haven't gone near the solo :). One of the mags also did Caught In A Web a few months ago, that one also looked pretty real. The middle section on that one is WAY harder than is sounds. Hopefully with semester break approaching, Ill get more time to practice. Good luck to anyone ith patience to tackle this stuff.

On another note, Modern Drummer has some kinda roundtable discussion in their latest issue w/ Mike Portnoy, Mark Zonder, along with other metal drummers like Deen Castronovo, John Tempesta, etc. I just flipped through it at the newsstand, and it seeemed to cover stuff like early experiences, relationships with endorsers, etc. Sounds like an interesting read.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I know a place that sells it for $20, you got ripped off. This place also sells every single CD bootleg for $20 and $40 for double CDs. This ain't just Dream Theater, they've got PILES of Marillion, Queensryce, etc. Oh, this place specializes in Beatles materials.

    Here's the place:

Revolver Records 45 W. 8th Street 2nd floor NY, NY

These guys have Tapes, CDs, posters, books, magazines, etc. A lot of the stuff they sell are out-of-print stuff and bootlegs. So, if you're looking for a hard to find CD, I would look here first.

    The nearest subway stop is the B & D on W. 4th.

    The most current ones:

"Caught in a Web" - latest issue of Guitar School (w/ Megadeth cover) "Erotomania" - latest issue of Guitar World (w/ Punk Guitar cover) "Lie" - Guitar for the Practicing Musician, couple issues ago. "Pull Me Under" - don't remember which mag but I think it was Guitar for the Practicing Musician back when PMU started to get radio play...

Reportedly there's a Image & Words "score book" coming out, which contains transcription to all the parts. However I don't think it's published yet.

You can also subscribe to Guitar World, Petrucci has a monthly column.

To those people that saw I Mother Earth open for DT, did Portnoy come out on stage during the end of their set and play drums along with their percussionist for one song? I'm wondering if the show I was at was unique in that respect. I thought IME was by far the WORST opener I've ever witnessed for any band (Even beating out Firehouse, Trixter, and Kingdom Come) but Mike's appearance made things more unexpected and entertaining.

(I, too, like some alternative stuff). Unfortunately, the whole alternative movement-- music, lifestyle, philosophy, has become a sad parody of itself. Someone should tell these people that our society already went through this juvenile phase of development thirty years ago.

Well, I've had about 1 week to fully listen to the LIE import single.

The Studio version of "To Live Forever" is fantastic. some of the vocal harmony parts took awhile to get used to. The new ending totally threw me off. Was that verse part of the original song or something, and perhaps they just never did it that way live??? The heavy part (da-da-da-da-da) is very cool as well.

I was listening to Space Dye Vest on the cd single and it seems to be remixed. The samples sound MUCH louder than on AWAKE. Mabey C-man can verify this for us? I could never really make out all the samples in SDV, but on the lie import cd they are VERY VERY clear!!

One other comment, the TtT demo on the vinyl is excellent. Its worth the price of the vinyl alone! some differences are the double vocals by James at points, a couple of different timing things. Overall its excellent.

If I remmember correctly it was Jordan got a permenant offer to continue with Dixie Dregs. So, it wasn't DT didn't want him, it was JR went with a different offer. I suppose DD realized they were going to loose JR and made him an offer he couldn't refuse.>>>

That's pretty much correct. As for the DD's making Jordan an offer he couldn't refuse, it certainly didn't have anything to do with money (that's my guess). DT is an up and coming major act that charts very well for their genre of music and sold a million copies of their last album. The DD's, on the other hand, are a group that, unfortunately, is playing mainly clubs after having sold out large theaters in their heyday and doesn't sell nearly the quantity of product that DT does. When I spoke with Jordan a few months ago the deciding factor for him to go with the Dregs was the music and the oppurtunity to play with what Derek Sherinian calls "the best band in the world."

Those of you who haven't checked out the Dregs before ought to if nothing else because of the wierd connections between the two bands:

    1. JP and Steve Morse have written together 2. Jordan played with DT at the Foundations Forum 3. Derek S. studied with former DD key man T Lavitz

The Dregs are finishing up a Northeast swing and are heading to Calif. the end of this month. Check 'em out!

A little while ago I picked up the year's end issue of Arena Rock, which describes itself as Quebec's only rock magazine. I was pleasantly surprised to see a picture of Dream Theater on the cover. Inside was a full-page article about the band. Most of the usual stuff, of course: praise for the new albums, for the band's virtuosity and unique style, and for their producers, too. James also touched on the subject of DT in Canada, saying he was disappointed by the lack of response they got in his native country. Which brings me to ask some questions... Where are the canadian fans on this list? How long will it take before DT get some exposure here either on radio, on Much Music, Musique Plus, or whatever? And what about shows in Canada? On this tour, so far, they've played Toronto (couldn't get there since I learned about it too late), but that's the only one I know of. Now they're heading for Europe, buy when they come back will they do any more shows here? Last year they did Toronto (great show! They blew me away!) and Montreal, and they must be doing more this year. I hope someone knows about this... People have been talking about radio stations lately... Here in Ottawa we have "The Bear" (FM 106.9), which is rock- and metal-oriented. Good stuff compared to what I'm used to, they blend classics in with the latest hits and have a daily "all-request hour" where you can hear some great stuff sometimes. They play Rush frequently, Queensryche (a big favorite of mine) slightly less, but no DT. They played "Lie" when the album first came out, but now they have lost the single, it seems. Could DT be under some kind of curse? Well, this is more than long enough. Long live the Ytsejam!

Is there any way we can contact this place through a mail order (speaking for us non-NY people)?

I believe the "Pull Me Under" tab is in the May 1993 issue. I'm not exactly sure but i know it is at least in that area. This tab does not include a bass transcription. Anyone have a reliable one? Later.

    Hello,

ive been reading this list for awhile but this is my first post. I just wanted to comment that YES, DT and Fates ARE RELIGION (or at least Gods) ;) Also, i put up with a roommate and people around me who cant stand my prog music.(the guys next door play rap--ughhh) But those of us who do recognize the divinity of DT , we KNOW that we're right and those morons that arent enlightened can live their lives in ignorance and then they'll find out when Judgment Day comes!! ;)

i wouldnt probably know one of my best friends here at school if he hadnt been wearing a DT shirt when i first saw him in a class and he helped me out by introducing me to Fates and Queensryche....and now im a much happier prog worshipper....

....soon to come: the KEYBOARD magazine review of _Awake_ which totally tikced me off...

    :)

Now don't get me wrong here but DT is anything but pretentious! I like some bands that are semi-alternative (NIN, Tool, Killing Joke, Prong, Skinny Puppy, Soundgarden, etc.) but most of that alternative stuff is pretentious! I've met members of some of these '90s alternative bands and many of them are complete pricks! I've also met DT, Fates Warning, Voivod, and Queensryche. Now these guys are the nicest most down to earth people you'll ever meet! I think many alternative musicians(?) are jealous of bands who actually know how to play more than a bar chord so when they hear a group who can actually play well they call it pretentious! Who are they to judge talent?

Webster's defines pretentious as: Claiming or demanding a position of distinction or merit, especially when unjustified. (2. ostentatious).

Stacie - Print this out and show it to your cool boyfriend. If he is not pretentious then who is? He actually shut off "The Eleventh Hour" half way through over the air? Sounds like he put on an extravagant outward show! Hey sounds like he thinks his opinion is so correct that he can just turn music off half way through while on the air. Sounds like he is claiming or demanding a position of distinction or merit that is clearly unjustified. Sounds like a pretentious fool to me!

Jay Peele (INFERNO) Exams are over! Yippie!

No, this wasn't a unique performance. I saw them in Chicago and Mike came out there too. When he stepped out there the level of excitement rose a million times. I was getting alittle bored with I Mother Earth. They were ok for about the first 4 songs, but all I could think about was seeing/hearing Dream Theater right there, 20 feet away. I don't think that I Mother Earth was the _worst_ opener I've seen, definitely worse than when Galactic Cowboys opened for them. I thought they were kinda cool. But anyway... point of all this babbling, yes, Mike played towards the end of I Mother Earth's set, at least in Chicago. And I think it was awesome! It made me so eager for them all to come out on stage. Very cool teaser. :)
