Sorry about the non-Dream Theater message but my brother (DT fan) told me
(Pink Floyd fan) about ROIO infomation...

I know of a ROIO CD from the recent PF tour and it received pretty good
ratings -- "The Bell Gets Louder" I am curious about where to find this
    one.

I would appreciate any info you can offer me about where to get it, etc.,
or anything else you want to say...

    THANKS!

Here is my suggestion for people wanting to get into taping...

there are two choices, as far as i am concerned. professional analog
equipment, or consumer DAT equipment. the pro analog walkmen are just
SO much betterh than the cheaper ones, there is no comparison. but,
professional grade portable DAT recorders are beyond the price range
    of most people (especially students)

    here are some possibilities:

    1. sony WM-D3 professional walkman

analog, but very nice. comes with everything you need. a little clip on
mic (stereo) that is surprisingly good, a case, and a strap to strap the
thing on under your shirt. this unit takes 2 AA batteries, and i have
gotten about 3.5 hours of recording from a pair of milennium rechargables.
it has mic/line input (same jack with a switch which is basically a
-20dB attenuation switch), a peak level/battery meter. (switchable between
showing peak levels (it shows sum of both channels, which annoyed me) or
battery power, or off.) it is a really good sounding unit, and alot of
the dt boots out there originated on this unit. it can be had for $250
at chain stores (i got mine at incredible universe) but i am sure you can
mail order it for less than $200. there is also a better version, the
sony D6, but i have never seen one.

    2. consumer grade portable DATs.

there are WAY too many of these to list. if you are interested in this,
mail DAT-heads-request@virginia.edu, that will get you a DAT market update,
a mic FAQ, and some other good stuff. two of the most popular of these
DATS are the sony TCD-D3 and TCD-D7. there are people that love each one
equally. but, be forewarned: BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY!!! these units have
the tendency to crap out on you sometimes. i have a D7, which you can
mail order for about $500-$550. i have been happy with it, email me for
more info if you are interested.

oh, one more thing: radio shack 27-1065. if you can find this mic, buy
all of them they have. it was discontinued, but youcan still find it for
like $10. it is a stereo mic, and is awesome for its price. i used it
with my camcorder, but i have heard of people using them with DATS for
    good results.

Not to mention a pair of "omni-directional shotguns".... hehehehhehehe

Shotguns are mics that are made to pick up sound waves from distances.
There are many different types of microphones... there is a microphone FAQ
    if anyone's interested...

i thought the same thing. I got into the publius thing when the first publius message was posted on the Pink Floyd newsgroup, but then i didn't have enough time to follow it, so i stopped. Now when i saw the article in the guitar magazine, i got interested in it. One thing you should be aware of: in the magazine there are a couple of pictures of magnified sections of the cover, revealing a message (such us the backwards 'publius'). these are just the artists interpretations. they are NOT actually there. the only picture that IS real, is the one from the concert where PUBLIUS was flashed in lights, on stage. However, it still is an interesting riddle, and hopefully i will have more time to investgate it.

Hopefully DT will do something like that, as it brigs people together, and gets them discussing every aspect of the lyrics, music, and art of the band. > >

    Greetings, all!

I know I've seen a list or something of demos, boots and such before, but I guess what I'm after is, which ones have what. My brother and I are interested basically, in finding all the things that are NOT on "the usual stuff", i.e. albums 1, 2, 3 and other "official" type recordings like LiT and LatM, etc... We've already got the official '86 Demo, which is totally cool. Now we're after such things as their "cover" of the Mission impossible theme, etc... can anyone lead us in the right direction?

Thanks a million!! E-mail contact is preferred but you can post on the list as well... :) David Barro dab112@psuvm.psu.edu

Yt> 1. With all the talk about recording DT shows, I'd just Yt> like to know how someone goes about making a sound board bootleg. Yt> I absolutely love Lost In The Sky, but I'm oblivious as to how Yt> someone walks into a show like that and just patches into DT's Yt> sound board.

Lost in the Sky is NOT a real soundboard! Originally the source of this boot was a Radiobroadcast. (The source of the Radiobroadcast was the soundboard, used with permission of the band). Once upon a time in Italy there was a radio program called PLANET ROCK. This program broadcast tons of Italian live shows. The source of many italian bootlegs is this program. BTW Planet Rock stoped in March the broadcast. :( I hope everyone understand this, I'm not really into English!:)

    Other Thing:

I've still some copies of the Stockholm93+MajestyDemo Cd boot. I've reserve the Cd for: Tim Lodge, Mike Copeland and Eric Moeglin. Is anyone interested?

I've also some copies of the 2cd boot NEW YORK 1994 the price is $50.

Hi! This is Jason Hartman. If you did a trade with me recently, could you please write to me and let me know if you received your packages? Here is a list of people that I shipped stuff out to...

Erik Ahlberg Stephen Dobay Christina "soeryant@egr.msu.edu" William Bazjek Greg "greg2@netcom.com" Brian Wherry Stephan Bazjek

Please mail me if you received your packages. It would have probably been my video of the DT Pittsburg show and/or audio tapes from New Haven and/or Colorado.

    Thanks!

Hello there! Welcome to my bootleg list. I've just started it recently so its not quite complete yet. I need to listen to some of my stuff to I can give better ratings to them. At the moment I'm just going with a single rating for each tape ( 2 ratings in the case of a video - one for sound and one for picture ). The ratings will be given in letter grades and will be based on the particular tape in comparision to all of the other bootlegs I have heard or seen. Most codes should be similar to what you have seen on other lists. SB - Soundboard , AUD - Audience , FM - Radio Broadcast , CD - Compact Disc , 1st/2nd/3rd etc - refering to the generation of the copy , PRO - Professionaly recorded ( can be live or in the studio ).

Feel free to mail me if you are interested in anything you see here or if you have any questions about anything listed here. I'll be happy to help you out. I can also provide you with set lists, just ask.

    Seasons greetings, everyone!

    Mark Scudder <mark.scudder@oho.com> asked:

    >>>5. Finally -- where's all the Kevin Moore News I was so used to quite a few months ago? I'm starting to feel we've lost touch with an important part of DT's musicianship. I'm really looking forward to any and all solo projects he embarks on.<<<

Steve M. Bauer <smb9733@sjfc.edu> seconded that motion by writing:

    >>>If anyone has new information on Kevin Moore's solo album could they please post. If Jennifer is reading this could she please let us know whats's up with Kevin. Thank you!<<<

Well, ok, you asked for it. :) I wish I had as much news to report as last time, but I don't talk to him everyday, you know. ;) I know that he was planning on going home to NY for Christmas, so YJammers in the area should keep their eyes peeled. :)

After hearing so many different sources report that Kevin's new music is "industrial" or "alternative" or whatever, I'm sure you're all sufficiently confused by now, so I thought I should say something about this. :) Hopefully, I won't confuse you even more. ;)

I've heard Kevin's new demos and, yes, he is singing all of the vocals on them, yes, the material is very different from his work w/DT, but no, it is *not* industrial music. Only one of his new songs, "Blanket", really has an "industrial" sound (ie. Nine Inch Nails). His new stuff runs the gamut from alternative to grunge (w/no keyboards - that's right, one of the songs has *no* discernable keyboards on it) to straight-ahead rock and, yes, even progressive, w/a beautiful ballad or two thrown in for good measure. :) To say that the music he's composing on his own is "industrial" is definitely selling him short, I think, all of his new songs are completely different from each other, w/industrial comprising only a small part of the total picture. It seems to me that Kevin is enjoying spreading his wings and having fun writing his own material now and he's experimenting a great deal, both w/music & lyrics. It's possible that some of this stuff may never even end up on an album, of course, because everything is still just at the demo stages right now. I do think there will be some DT fans who won't like the musical direction he's taking because what's he's doing is *very* different from DT, but that's a matter of personal opinion and taste and it's to be expected. I can only speak for myself, but I can honestly say that even on only the first listen, I liked all of Kevin's new songs immediately, and some of them, I even *loved* immediately. :) I think "alternative" may be the most accurate label that could be applied to his solo material because it doesn't really sound like anything else. In other words, the only label it really should be given is "Kevin Moore music." :)

I talked to Mike Portnoy and John Myung about Kevin's new musical direction when they were in LA recently and even they had very different opinions of it. Mike doesn't seem to like what Kevin's doing now very much, although he does wish him well, while John Myung really likes all of Kevin's new stuff and even commented on how you can "really hear the desert's influence" in it. John mentioned that his own musical tastes are very similar to Kevin's, however, so perhaps that's why he can relate to where Kev is coming from now.

I also talked w/DT's manager, Jim Pitulski (who is a very nice human being, BTW! :), in LA. He had just spoken to Kevin on the phone the day before and Kev told him that he had just parted ways w/Rich Kern (the guitarist who played on Kev's most recent demos) and Rich had moved on to Seattle. Kev is working on his own again now and may even be trying to handle some of the guitar parts himself. Kev plays bass on a couple of the demos and is quite good, BTW! :)

    One more thing:

    Evan Thomson <930377@edna.cc.swin.edu.au> wrote:

    >>>Howdy folks, I found some interesting news from a guy I was talking to on IRC today. Turns out he was working in some recording studio in Wisconsin. (Don't ask me!, I'm from Australia - that's all the detail I can remeber or understant). Anyway, .......

he met our dear departed Kevin there.

with James Barton from Queensryche production fame (so I'm told)

So there you go, who knows what this means, but it seems as though Kevin may be working with him.<<<

I can't be completely sure of this since I haven't talked to Kevin about it, but as far as I know, this is not true. If this happened recently, I think Kev or DT's manager would have mentioned it. Kev's demos are still in the development stage right now and he hasn't signed any sort of record deal yet, so I would think this is highly unlikely. However, when the time comes, Jim Pitulski doesn't think Kevin will have any problem getting signed and neither do I. :)

Hope this clears some things up!

    Take care everyone,

    Jennifer _______________________________________________ air dance@aol.com mriodom@delphi.com
