I have a copy of a DT concert on video from Long Island, September, 1992.
It is one camera, decent quality, and runs about 90 minutes. Since I don't
know that many unreleased DT songs, all I can say is that it has every song
from Images and Words on it, plus a lot more (including Ytse Jam, Only a
Matter of Time.)

If anyone is willing, I'd like to trade this video for the Live at the
Marquee CD (german version preferred.) No record stores (or even import
stores) that I've been to carry it. I've seen postings that people have
seen it for about $15 in their local stores. I would like someone to buy
it and send it to me, for my video.

Please e-mail me if interested at rmm30@columbia.edu

Thanks.

I've been told by members of the band to not expect a rerelease of When

massive legal hassle.

Could be...the new Satriani CD is a 2CD set in one CD case...some funky
new packaging...

True. How about scribing YSTE-JAM
across the shirt (or maybe on the back)
in the same script as "Dream Theatre"
is written on the album covers with
the M-logo replacing the final letter?

or you can separate the two and put the logo somewhere
and the script elsewhere.

Dream Theater fans.

I recently scanned in some images off the Dream Theater Images and Words CD.
I then used photoshop to enhance the pictures the best I could, geting rid of
seems and smudges. Our scanner was stuck at 8 -bit scans so the quality is
not the best. I prefer 24 -bit. At least 8-bit will save space. After working
with the images, I believe they turned out fairly well. If there is requests
to rescan at 24 -bit I might be able to do so in early March (our scanner is
now working :) ).

I just uploaded the files below to ftp.uwp.edu in /pub/incoming/pictures. How
long they will stay there I am not sure. I did not see any other pictures in
that directory.

Remmeber when FTPing these files switch to the binary mode (type bin at the
ftp prompt). I have also included this file as well, if you download it you
need to be in the ascii mode (type ascii as the ftp prompt).

I found out some interesting things about this ftp site ftp.uwp.edu. There
is another picture directory in /pub/music then under
/pub/music/d/dream.theatre there is a dt.jpg file. I downloaded it but have
not viewed it as of yet. Note the spelling of dream theatre (not theater).
There is also a dream.theater (the correct spelling) under /pub/lyrics/d this
directory contains lyrics to I&W, an WD&UD (?), and a discography as well. I
did not check the acurracy of them. Also the is an FAQs directory in the
music directory I believe, I might be nice to post the DT FAQ there.

later,

I have discovered a few things about the double CD cases.

First of all, as someone had mentioned, the little thinks are very prone to breaking for some reason. The ones that I have now have lasted for a while, though.

They are starting to become available in CD stores here. Newbury Comics has them 2 for $5 I think.

Some US CDs are also finally starting to come in them. Joe Satriani's Time Machine CDs come to mind for an example.

Also on a side note, Jason Hough, the list manager did mention to mail opinions about the T-Shirts to him. Please do this, not because of the space taken (I actually like reading the ideas), but for the fact that it makes it MUCH easier to sort through everything if mailed seperatly, as opposed to looking through a long message for specifics. I have taken several polls on other digests, and it is impossible to get everyone's ideas if you recieve it in digest format.

Hey there all! Just got hold of all of the above (thanks again, Randy H!) and have a few comments to throw out. 1) Although Charlie doesnt seem to record as well as James, he does seem to have that different kind of maturity in his voice that seemed to suit the material at the time. I dont see myself arguing over who was\is better, as it seems that they both fit DT style in a certain unique way. I DO have to admit, i cant help but wonder what "The Ones Who Help to SEt the Sun" and "Light Fuse and Get Away" sound like in concert (what would Charlie have sounded like?....:)) 2)Already having the promo CD, and now both of these live things, i can say that ...i wouldnt say that James "screams" as much as he seeems to...have quite a yell? Id have to say that it seems he choses NOT to attempt to reproduce the "studio sound" of the vocals, but also, seems to prefer the ...looser style that the concert setting allows for. NOPE, dont quite feel as if it ...bothers me. 3)The one...problem..that anyone who is considering buying DoE shoudl be aware of is that..it has ALOT of base to it (had to turn off the loudness on the amp here), but...nothing that cant be dealt with easily. Otherwise, it is VERY good quality (not soundboard?). If you want to catch more than LatM has, THIS seems to be the one to get! and finally...4) Has ANYONEelse noticed the guitar bit near the end of "Forever" that sounds....vaguely familiar to we Beatles fans out here? Tell me its NOT just me...... Sitting down to more...Curry vindaloo? I love the Idea of tshirts! But please make them colorful enough. I dont like black and white tshirts. And I dont know about the rest of you, but Im sick of music tshirts being on black T's. I have two drawerfuls of black T's with band stuff on them, I love the bands, but the black is so damn dull and depressing. A red or white would be nice. As for Ideas.... The majesty logo would be cool with the flaming heart, and since dream theater seems to like gothic stuff, a couple of gothic looking columns would be neat. As for sayings, the obvious stuff comes to mind.... "Here before me is my soul, I'm learning to Live." "Pull me under, I'm not afraid" "I am the killing hand" "You draw the bottom line with a dollar sign" "Let light surround you" "Find all you need in your mind, if you take the time."

Personally Im partial to the surrounded quote, since its my favorite DT song.

I read one or two digests ago that Petrucci was gonna be in the March issue of Guitar for the Practicing Musician. So naturaly I ran right out and bought it. It's got some great stuff! It has a big article about him and also a cool poster or him. This issue also contains the FULL trasnscription of Take the Time for guitar AND bass!! Yes I love!! I'm not really a guitar player but I did learn and sequence that cool guitar/keyboard solo at 4:30 right before what I like to call the "funky part" which itself comes before the keyboard solo.

Also, this issue had the results to the Readers Choice Awards and here they go.

Breakthrough guitarist of the year : John Petrucci Breakthrough band of the year : Dream Theater Album of the Year : Images and Words Songwriters of the Year : Dream Theater Most Underrated guitarist : John Petrucci, ha not any more!

Just thought that you would like to know of this.

Possibly the best part is when John says that he is currently trascribing the last album for a book!!! YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!

I'm gonna be pitching a tent!!! If this has keyboard parts too, i'm gonna sequence them all and be a god damn Dream Theater cover band!! That would rock!!

Before you read this, THIS IS NOT A FLAME. It's just that, this being the Dream Theater fan mailing list, it's the right place to mention this. In an interview, John Petrucci actually corrected the interviewer with a "notice the spelling" when he handed them a copy of the pre-release cassette of Images & Words. Apparently there was another band (since there is a slot for them at my record store that is never filled, right next to Dream Theater) called Theatre of Dreams. In any case, I'm not trying to ride ya hard about spelling it "re" instead or "er" except to say that the band would REALLY prefer to be known as "Dream Theater". Mike

We`ve had those slimline CD cases in the UK for a few years now, nearly all double CD`s are released like that now... I`ve seen a heck of a lot of Metallica bootlegs like that.. The only ones I own that I can think of however are Van Halen`s Live Right Here, Right Now and Satriani`s Time Machine..

Some one asked about t-shirts out. As well as the flaming heart one, I saw a long sleeve tee with the majesty symbol on the left breast and the names of ALL of the places they've played, super-imposed on a big majesty symbol on the back. Places are named twice or even three times, so it seems like it contains every show they've done. I don't remember if "Dream Theater" was on the sleeve, or not. They had black ones, and white ones. By the way, the lettering was blue. I think I remember the shirts correctly. Any others?

1. White --- I've got enough black T's already 2. Have flaming heart on front 3. Have quote on back --- my choice is "You can find all you need in your mind, if you take the time." (in black) 4. Have majesty logo also on the back below qoute (in red or blue)

Whatever the design, there should be a graphic on front, quote on back. Also, the sooner the voting is done and a design is finalized, the better.
