Well boyz...
the way I feel, a drummer can really show his stuff when it comes to songs
rather than solos... in fact... any type of solo... without accompaniment
of other instruments I don't particularly care for too much...

I enjoy good drum solos, and I'm not a drummer....but they have to be
GOOD drum solos. Portnoy's is quite good, Neil Peart's is unfailingly
excellent; Lars Ulrich's during the last Metallica tour was fun
because, although his banter with James "I played drums years ago"
Hetfield was choreographed, James' abilities on the drums are uneven
(!), and their interplaying was.........well, it was never quite the
same twice. :)

Mike's drum recording was a topic of conversation backstage after a
concert I saw on New Year's in Tampa. Uh, how much sampling did he
use during the studio sessions? This was a topic here a few weeks
ago, and I forget how much of Mike's studio work was (shall we say)
enhanced.

That's often what happens during drum solos; drum solos are the
traditional "girlfriend goes and gets beverages" times at Rush
concerts. :)
