Actually, I asked Mike about this once, and he said they very well may be
a part II sometime, but not necessarily on the next album, or ever. I
personally like to think of A Change of Season as Part II myself. They
seem to go well together.

I actually like it. Fits well with the Hamlet theme of the song, kind of
killing it off unexpectedly.

Primus sucks.
Seriously, I can't listen to them. I admire their playing and I like the
fact that they are genuinely different from most of the stuff that's out
there, but they're just too goofy for me.

If Dream Theater needs anything, it's a better producer.

Possibly. If they can pull that off, more power to them. But thus far I
think everything they've done has worked extremely well, and I've got no
complaints except for the production.

No no no no no no no. Charlie couldn't sing. He especially couldn't sing
live. James is far better suited to DT. And the band agrees with me, so
nyah nyah. I win.

If you want to really compare DT to a comparablke band get some Fates
Warning albums. The older ones are great too but differnt but should please
most of you. The artwork on the older albums is awesome too!!!!
For those of you that think that Charlie should be back:
Check out the older Fates Warning albums you should like those. The
singers sound similiar. Secondly there is more that has to come into a band
situation then just talent. It is hard to get anywhere when you have a member
of the band that doesn't want to go into the same direction as the rest of the
band. If Charlie was in the band now I would imagine that they would be a
totally different band from what I heard about him.
When DT was with mechanic records they made a christmas tape for the
people at the record company at one time. It was just one song from what i hear
this was not produced and frommy knowledge is not on any live or studio albums
or bootlegs. If someone has a copy (I think only one of 10 floating around) I
would love to have a copy. They're departure from Mechanic was not on bad terms
. The split benefited both parties. The amount that Mechanic recieved was
$40,000 dollars.
Some of you guys are talking about different guitar and bass sounds.
>From my personal experience the best way to go is MIDI controlled digital
effects. (at least for guitar anyway) You get more versatility and more control
. Deffinately need a Marshall JMP-1 pre amp. ADA may have been the best but
not anymore and they're new preamp still doesn't compare to a marshall. AND
MOST IMPORTANTLY... THE MORE FLASHING LIGHTS THE BETTER!!!!!!!
For all you whiney people out there complaining that you haven't heard
anything enlightning about DT in this list maybe try reading a few of them. It
might supprise you. Also get your heads out of your asses and try posting
smoething better than your idiotic complaints. You guys see how much interest
there is in these topics about musicianship why should you want to stop it!!!!
Why don't you just try to learn something. I myself learned a lot about differnt
players and differnet concepts about music. Shit i even learned that Peart
never taught Ulrich. (I appologize to that guy i called a moron *blush*)
You guys threaten us by saying that you are going to unsubscribe. Well if you
aren't going to contirbute anything usefull except your random "this is isn't
good enough"... "this sux".... "don't make fun of Rush the created everything
everyone else plays"... then you won't really be missed!!!
As for you people that go to a show and jsut sit there transcribing the
songs get a f**king life for gods sake!!!!! People go to shows to meet people,
get into the music by dancing or moshing, get out of the house once in a while
oh and watch the band. Otherwise they would sit at home jerking off to the CD.
So let these people that are having a good time have it. They are not hurting
anyone. I was really upset when i heard that LaBrie was getting pissed at stage
divers. I think he's afraid that it will screw up his awesome coreography. :)
I was at a Pantera show at the Marqui in NYC one time. I was on the stage and
I couldn't see the band. It was great! and the guys really enjoy the fact that
the peopl where getting into the music. As fro DT music not being moshing
music.... There are a lot of really heavy parts in the songs that you can mosh
to. Maybe if you lifted your heads from transcribing and figuring out time sigs
every once in a while you could appreciate the music for what it really is.
MUSIC and not a bunch of notes.
BTW playing fast isn't the only criteria for being a guitar or bass GOD.
>From what I have seen there are a lot of musicians on this list (I personally am
a guitarist) that can tell you the same thing that I am going to say. If you
are able to perfect your chops to the point that your fingers can do anything
you want them to you are going to be able to express yourself much better. This
way your physical ability doesn't limit your creativity. Remember the are also
perfomers so the flash in their playing helps a lot. You don't always have to
play 4/4 and only 8th notes. Listen to some classical music there are a lot
of themes and ideas that are similair to what is played by some of the best
musicains and bands of our time now.
Anybody heard anything about exibit-A recently. A friend of mine at a
record label heard the demo and told me it was really kicking. FYI Exibit-A
is Alex Skolniks new band. (He as also going to record on the new Savatage album
from waht i hear. GREAT band) Alex was in Testament before he also toured with
Stu Hamm. He is amazing-just my opinion but I am sure most of you will agree.
The ending to Pull me Under is really wierd. They play it the same way
live too. When my band covers that song we do it a litlle different. I like it
better actually. We go back into the part that goes "dust fills my eyes..."
Just my opinion.
That's about it for me. This is the longest post i have sent ot a list
sorry about that. I hope I did more that piss people off. and sorry for all
the Typo's

I definitely have to dissagree. Moshing to Dream Theater?? Give me
a break... Dream Theater's music is far too superior to have such a
mindless thing like moshing done to it.
And I would think that what LaBrie thinks would be pretty important.
If he looks out and sees a group of people "standing there like
bumps on a log" that does not mean they aren't "into" the music.
I would take it to mean they have a respect for the band. They
actually are there to see them play and listen to their music,
not run around like fools. When I saw them, I was in the front
of the theater, we did not "mosh" but we were definitely "into"
the music. You can't judge an audience on how much they run around
hitting each other.
Moshing to Dream Theater?? Ugh, how absurd!

I too thought that my recording was bad, but after listening too it many
times, and hearing that "Hamlet" quote at the end, it all seems to make
sense. I don't think there's really another way they could have ended that
song that would've created the same effect. Just think: the topic is Pull
Me Under, all about (besides the Hamlet references) getting caught in the
undertow of life, taking chances etc, and the song ends like it does. It
comes up from nowhere and suprises you, creating the perfect symbolic
ending: the loss of everything in an instant (perhaps because of being "
pulled under").

If I'm listening to right part, I think what you're actually hearing
is a keyboard patch, cause the kick sounds a lot different to me than the
punchy part of that sound. I might have been a combo of sounds in the
