He's not REAL bad, but he's shit compared to LaBrie. Besides that, the album has some really good material. IMHO of course. G

I'd suggest Live at the Marquee. For under $20, it's a deal. It sounds better than DoE, IMO. While it might not have the variety of DoE, it's a hell of a lot cheaper and there A Fortune in Lies and The killing Hand are just awesome! Plus, you get the improve jam as well.

Hell, here we go again... (for want of lack of traffic)
No, No, and No. Rush and Dream Theater a two different bands. The only connection they have, is that Rush at one time (LONG AGO) were progressive.
Well... I think Hold Your Fire was a big progression from Power Windows and then Presto (even though I don't care for it too much) was a bigger progression from HYF. (RTB was a bit backwards though). And Counterparts is a hell of a progression yet. But I do admit I'm talking about a progression as the *sound* of Rush goes...
Here are the obvious differences:
Dream Theater are simply better musicians than Rush... sorry.
No you're not.
Dream Theater intentionally make some more commercial songs, early Rush did not (they might be more like current Rush here).
That's true.
Rush did commercialize beginning with "Permantent Waves."
Ditto.
Dream Theater include more longer songs than Rush did on each album.
More musicians= more input/creativity= longer songs
I mean, I think you're reading too much into the influences thing. Sure, Mike thinks Neil is a great drummer (so do I)... He's not planning on cutting all his hair off in 10 years...
What the hell? He only does that because he likes to bicycle on tour between close venues. Keeps it out of his eyes (and fools all those "Neil has cancer/leukemia/AIDS!" idiots.
Whatever "parallels" you find are just coincidence.
So? That's what Mike was pointing out. Of course DT isn't repeating history intentionally.
I mean, 8 songs? Wow!! 99.9% of all albums out today are limited to 8 songs.
See above.
How about this: Rusty quit, Dominici was fired.
That's true, too.
I&W is not sucessful... It still hasn't reached gold status in the US.
No, but it's pretty damn close, isn't it? (John said so in an radio interview at the Grammys).
And wow, you already have the 4th album ready, huh? Let me guess: "1212 by Dream Theater"
After listening to the Majesty Demo, I think Dream Theater is progressing in much the same way Rush has at a lot of points. They defined a certain sound/style and have been improving, maturing, and smoothing it out since *within the context of their own sound*. But stood on the shoulders of giants. IAW was a big jump from WDADU. (DAMNIT! Mike Bahr get off my keyboard! man, that guy is everywhere!) IMO, it goes up there on my list with the greatest albums ever put out in rock (MP- Rush, IAW- DT, MOP- Metallica, Lovedrive- Scorps (a great breakthrough for those guys)... In fact, I think IAW is so good, I don't see how much more DT can progress. We'll probably be having this discussion after DT puts out a few more albums and some new band cites them as an influence. Wow! The parallels. See, it's all a giant conspiracy masterminded by that evil Mike Bahr.
hey, will there be a live album after that?
There already is a live album, so I doubt it.
C'mon... Take this crap to NMS... I don't even read the Rush newsgroup anymore...
I don't even subscribe because of all the bad vibes I hear about it.

Only thing is that I get need the Metallica fix more often than the Rush, though I love them both. In fact I just saw Rush last Tuesday and I'm seeing Metallica this summer. Now, if I can top that off by seeing Dream Theater in the fall I can die a happy man. :-)
-Jason ________
Definitely. I'm seeing Metallica at Cal Expo Sacramento, and Shorline Mountain View (two days in a row!) in July. Dream Theater has a new album out at the end of summer and then a tour, Rush will have a new album (live or studio--- the consensus isn't certain yet)/vid and then the 20th anniversary tour in the winter, and Queensryche willl have a new album out (hopefully)/ tour, as well! Definitely a great year in rock.

I think that you should either get Live at the Marquee or When Dream and Day Unite. WDADU has a different singer, so if you really like I&W, and want to be 100% sure you like the tape you buy, get LatM, otherwise, if you want to try the other one, go for it :) They're both excellent. :) But I'd buy one of these before buying a boot (IMHO :) Chris

Look around for LIVE AT THE MARQUEE. It's cheaper than most bootlegs, an authorized release, and will serve as an introduction to two songs from the first album. Besides, "Surrounded" on LatM is, IMO, even better than on I&W. (!)

If you're interested in live stuff, I'd recomend Live at the Marquee. Although it's mostly stuff off their studio albums, it's damn good, and seeing as it's not a bootleg it supports the band more. My only complaint is that it's only 45 minutes long. It's worth it, though, just to get the bass lines on Pull Me Under.

I would also welcome this concert if it came to town. It would help DT get more exposure. I've seen plenty of good bands play as opening acts and the only drawback is the time they are given.
It would surely be better than Queensryche's last opening act in Houston, Suicidal Tendencies (yuck). I'm not trying to be close-minded, but I think they suck. They don't compare well with Queensryche at all.

Well, apparently, not enough of you are hip to King's X so the band is going to try to change that by putting their music in your hands. 1. type "King's X" in the Subject line

You can send up to two additional addresses (in the same format as above) of people you know who are NOT familiar with King's X and they, too, will receive, FOR FREE, a King's X sampler!
(NOTE: We'll be sending out 3,000 samplers on a first come, first served basis so let's hear from you!)
Any questions? Please follow-up to: wk05522@worldlink.com
