Hi folks,
does anybody have a keyboard transcription of Surrounded (or at least the
chords), or is there a Dream Theater Scorebook (would be even better) out
there?
Thanks,
guenter
PS: Will the next DT tour bring them to Europe (Austria)?

Subject: Various stuff
Hi, Matt from Sweden's on the air!
I originally got the LIT-video the same day it was released here in Europe,
three weeks back though I won one of the prizes in a Guitar-Mag-contest.
I got a Japanese LATM cd and also an american version of the LIT-video. Since
I don't need the us-video (in Europe we have another video/tv system with
differencies in the screen-update-frequence, ergo I cannot watch the video) so
I just wonder if someone's willing to buy it. It's identical to the Euro-
version except for the non-plastic-packaging and the gold print 'not for sale'
or something like that on the tape. If there's some real fanatic fan that
feels that he must have this one, I'll send it. Since I live in Sweden postage
and stuff can cost quite a lot, but I won't charge much for the tape itself
since I won it.
I saw a letter from another swedish guy recently, feel free to write to me
though I will soon be gone for the summer!
I have also got a crappy bootleg (Live Classics) that I'd like to sell. It's
from Ft Lauderdale -92 and has got bassdrums and vocals on it mostly as well
as loud conversation from some not-so-die-hard-fans standing next to the
recording-source...anyone interested!
(Whoops, please forgive me! It just hit me that bootleg-trading/selling might
not be allowed for discussion here! Please don't flame me for this!)
When DT last played Stockholm, Sweden at Gino last November, national radio P3
recorded the show. 45 minutes or so of that recording was later broadcasted,
the sound's really good, the crowd's really loud and so on. I can maybe get a
grip of the entire show through friends of friends, if someone's interested
in trading let me know!
That's it for my first post to this list, quite a long one but since there's
been a lot of complaining 'bout the lack of activity on the list I figured
that you wouldn't mind! (BTW I think that the Rush/DT-discussion is pointless!)

Well, I have to comment on this as I have some additional info regarding the
lyrics for "Another day" and I think that this should be in the FAQ. The info is
taken from an interview with LaBrie in the British magazine RAW. Here's what he
has to say about the subject:
LaBrie: "That song was a very personal one written by John Petrucci - and I hope
he won't mind me telling you this - but it deals with a situation he was going
through with his father. John was only about 12 and his father was really sick -
he's better now - but it's a highly optimistic song."
So, there you go ... Of course one could also read the suicide meaning into it
as DT, as we all know, like to put different meanings into their lyrics.
>1.12 Is there a Dream Theater fan club?
>
> Yes. Write to the address below:
> Dream Theater Fan Club
> Dept.A
> 11 Penn Plaza Suite 910
> New York, NY 10001-2006
This is according to the FAQ. But in the interview mentioned above there is
another address to the fan club. Here it is:
Dream Theater Fan Club
Midtown Station
Box 1188
New York, NY 10018
Does anybody know which is the appropriate address? Naturally the members of the
fan club should know ... :-)
> Third of all, it's the only song that had LaBrie singing in it
>that has ONLY been recorded live, as in, not for any album. The other four
>songs that hold the live distinction are instrumentals.
This is also from the FAQ, regarding the song "A change of season". My question
is: what about "(To live) Forever"? Is ACOS really the only one?
BTW, Does anybody have the lyrics for "(To live) Forever"?
Well, this became a pretty long post, I hope you don't mind too much.
Bye, Stefan

Well, being a devoted Iron Maiden fan myself for the last ten or so years, I too had a similar reaction to DT... My older brother loaned me I&W, and I too was not impressed. (This was way before they made the "Pull Me Under" video) Anyway, I listened to the disc maybe two or three times, then gave it back. Then a few months passed, and I saw the "PMU" video getting a lot of play on MTV. I was very impressed with them at this point, and I lived to see that video everyday. After a while, I thought to myself... "Man, I think I've heard these guys somewhere before..." So I asked my brother for the cd again, and sure enough, I totally loved it the second time. This was so strange, because I am a big Fates Warning fan; I wonder what came over me the first time I listened to I&W???? I suppose I should say something about the IM connection, since that's what this thread started as, no? Personally, I don't see a whole lot of overt similarities, other than the fact that both bands create interesting music, and they write excellent lyrics. And they both have very excellent bassists. The individual members may have been influenced by IM, but I think that together, they make music that is very original and in a class all by themselves. :)
