Yeah. I just started getting into Maiden very recently (they are awesome
by the way) and there are, I think, some similarities between John's
style and Dave Murray's. There are also some compositional similarities,
song structure and stuff, and both bands are very melodic. I think that
when DT is playing metal, it's Maidenesque metal rather than, say,
Metallicaesque metal. Good thing, too, IMO. Also I think Fates Warning
was heavily influenced by Maiden, so that may have spilled over
    somewhat.

To the guy who said "Dream Theater has better musicians than Rush," I would like to analyze that statement further.

Petrucci better than Lifeson? OK, I think he is certainly more versatile. Portnoy better than Peart? Peart is a god, but so is Mike. I'll buy it. Myung better than Lee? I just don't think so. There is no comparison.

But I agree on everything else. While the late-70's Rush influence on DT is evident, I see few parallels of the non-trivial nature (eg. replacing a band member is trivial). Let's just hope DT doesn't sell out like Rush did. While mid-era Rush is still my favorite, I think that DT is by far the best band today (now that Rush, Yes, Queensryche, etc. suck). I really have high hopes for them. I+W is definitely the best second album by any band ever.

Why did some moron quote the whole previous ytsejam digest in his message? I don't wanna weed through all of that stuff a second time.

Anyway, has anyone here joined that DT fan club where you were supposed to send 15 bucks and you get a membership card and stuff like that ? What about any other DT fan clubs?

Any word on the Images and Words music book? Is it just gonna be guitar? Keyboards would be way cool!!

I think "The Silent Man" is a cool song, I hope its on the next album.

Yea, I couldn't let that one slide by. 'Tallica gave away (and subsequently had to pay for) over $500,000 in free tickets during the last tour, mostly to fans who followed the tour. I think we could all do with more of these so-called dickwads in the music industry, hmmm?

Krysten DeBroka Pat Daugherty Nathan Bradley Paul Poehler Paul Cashman Jeff Smith Tim Altman Michael Starr Jason Breitweg William Nottingham Cem Unsal Tanguy Kervahut Zachery Gemmill Michael Backof Gregory Picklesimer Joseph Jurczyk Steven Chew Tadd Dalton Scott Spehar David Bachmann Adam Bertapelle Scott Kuennen Brent Phillips Paula Matuszek Todd Hartmann Kinga Jason Hartman Jeffrey Seifert Brian Cox Jason Giles

There are a few people that are not in here yet, but that just about covers it. It's less than half of the people who originally ordered shirts in email. Unfortunately this means that I probably wont have enough money to get the design we wanted. I think I'm going to have to nix-nay the glow-in-the-dark portion. Oh well! Maybe next time. :P Believe me, they will still look great!

I should have the shirts in in about 2 weeks, and I will send them out then.

This whole debate is kinda bothering me. So I'll add to it and make it worse.

Petrucci may very well be better than Alex TECHNICALLY. However, if you've ever seen both of them play live I think that it's hard to deny that Lifeson plays with more artistical expression than Petrucci. Granted Petrucci's parts are about ten times harder to play, but something has to be said for musical style.

Geddy and Myung are hard for me to compare (as if the others weren't), but here again, sometimes I feel that the difficulty of Myung's parts are taking away from the feel (to less of extent than Petrucci, though).

Here's the one that I will take a firm, solid stand on, though. Peart IS better than Portnoy. At times Portnoy becomes VERY mechanical (not that that isn't cool). Peart, on the other hand, always plays with perfect touch and control. Peart is better technically and artistically. Sorry Mike, you lose.

Singing? Well, it depends what you want. Geddy: a technical mess with more character to his voice than anyone should be allowed, or LaBrie: perfect singer (except for his diction) that sounds like he belongs in the opera. I think we better go with LaBrie (although I would rather hear Geddy wail away, it wouldn't be fair to put LaBrie in second).

    Intelligent flames are welcomed :)

I enjoy MTV as much as the next guy but your experience is a good example of why MTV is such a successful marketing tool. You heard music that you thought was mediocre at best and then were sucked in by the slick presentation of MTV. Three cheers for 'the American way.'

Anyone have any ideas why he decided to do that, other than the fact that it is a cool drum beat/guitar riff???
