About the "new" tune mentioned in the Japanese flyer, orry to burst your bubble, but I think they are referring to the Beatles' tune from Sergeant Pepper. John P. plays the Eastern sounding vocal melody at the beginning of the solo section of "To Live Forever" on , the vcal melody of which John P. plays octave style at the end of To Live Forever (before the solo section onthe Live in Tokyo video.) (Does anyone elsethink that is the worst quality professional video they have ever seen?)
Also, another tidbit, the sample that is played during Mike P.'s solo is from Slayer's tune "Raining Blood", the almost title track from "Reign in Blood" (BTW, a fine, fine album).
Also, I agree wholeheartedly about someone's (can't rem who) post about WDADU. It has always been one of my favorite albums, and I do believe the production (by Terry Date, a great producer, but his worst sounding album) gives it a much warmer feel than the very poppy, too perfect sounding I&W (another of my faves, of course). WDADU reminds me very much of Rush in the sound of the album, moreso than any of their other stuff, probably closest to Signals. Awake, IMO, has much better production than I&W, with a much fuller sound altogether (and no more shitty sampled snare sound). I wish the keys were louder in the mix during the guitar-keys unison parts, and of course I wish the bass was audible (he's getting screwed almost as much as Newsted on Justice :). Just my 2 cents.
BTW, is Lost in the Sky worth getting if I already have Dance of Eternity?
Later, Dario

I found this quite interesting and refreshing. These are the (edited down) results of a poll from the hard rock mailing list. The poll was sent out a few weeks ago and were included in the 100th issue. The results are from approx 75 people.
> best artists was done on a 10-point scale, with #1 getting 10 > points, #2 9 points, etc. All other questions used a 5-point scale.

Anyway, just found these results to be quite interesting... I am a little bit shocked that Myung didn't even make the list for bass players though...

Dario mentioned that the sample in the middle of Mike's solo on the _Live in Tokyo_ vid was from Slayer's "Raining Blood". I beg to differ here... I'm relatively certain it's from a Pantera song ("Walk", perhaps?), and I'm absolutely certain it's not from "Raining Blood".

That's a pretty fun recording. For all those who haven't tried it yet, you hear some of Lie and CIAW and Mike Portnoy talks about the tour and the album a bit. I'd say it's very accessible for potential new DT buyers, even though the info is old to us on the net, but then again, we already own the albums. If they can keep this line up when it's getting near new-album time, it will be pretty helpful..

Well, I was at that show and trust me there were alot more people there than was implied. And you also have to remember it the show was in Oklahoma City <right in the middle of hick country, NO offence intended> there are only a few places for a band to play that are worth a shit. We have a large arena but it was in use that night.
BTW does anyone know if there is a Fates Warning news group. I would like info. If its available.

For anybody who might be interested, three of the DT guys (John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, and James LaBrie) were on Z-Rock last night for about an hour (at 8:00 MDT, everyone else figures it out for themselves). Nothing particularly eventful, they played "Caught in a Web," "Under a Glass Moon," and "6:00." They also (or so they claimed) "chose" other tunes to be played that hour, which included something by Galactic Cowboys, Alice in Chains ("Would?"), Soundgarden ("Black Hole Sun"), G & R (the "I used to love her / but I had to kill her" song), something by Savatage (I think, can't remember for sure), and others that I don't recall. Nothing by Fates Warning, though.
They also gave away three autographed CD's of _Awake_, to people who were first to call with answers to these questions:
1) Who was the producer of _Images and Words_? (A: David Prater)
2) Which DT'er was involved in the recording of _Awake_ but is no longer with the band? (A: Kevin Moore)
3) Which member of DT is a recent newlywed? (A: Mike Portnoy)
Child's play for us Ytsejammers, of course. I was disappointed that over the entire hour they only played three DT tunes. No idea if that was their decision or Z-Rock's (As I said, they claimed that they were playing whatever they wanted to but I'm not sure I believe it).
FYI. See ya,
Jon

hmm... weird about the limit. oh well... and yes that's what I've been hoping too, the Brady is a great theater. (And I live in Tulsa, no driving down to OKC. :)) Either the Brady or the PAC. :) That'd be awesome, albeit costly.

I'm wondering, does DT get a percentage of the tix sales or a flat rate? I had always thought that bands were _hired_ to play a venue if their management could prove to the promoters that it would be a sell-out(or at least enough for the promoters to profit from. If JL was pissed, it may have been because the crowd size was small and he thought that they(DT) weren't getting the recognition that they deserved. Just a thought, but does anyone know? DO THEY GET A CUT or is it A FLAT RATE?

hey guys... uhm I just want to ask a few questions. I saw on that survey someone poste that one of the up and coming bands is called Saigon Kick. He has it listed as one of his fav bands. Are they progressive or what? Also, is Psychotic Waltz progressive?
Now on to another question. I just got my first job (yippe!) and will be coming into some money pretty soon and well, I'll just have to blow it all on progressive CDs. Not just progressive rock or metal, but prog. music in general. Now let me list some of the bands and CDs I already have and maybe you guys can recommend some more CDs and bands that I will/might like (keep in mind I'm pretty open minded. Just no rap group suggestions ... I'd get sick if someone mentioned progressive and rap in the same sentence... opps I just did. Oh well. :))
anyway, I have: all 4 DT cds (tie between IAW and Awake) QR's O:M, Empire, and PL ( like O:M the best) Rush's 2112, Exit Stage Left, Grace Under Pressure, Presto, and Roll the Bones (I like ESL the best... but its a compliation CD.) Savatages Handfull of Rain (I like every song except the cobras one) Fates Warning's Awaken the Guardian and Inside Out. (Both great albums) Evening of Yes Music (great 2 cd set, I generally like the 2nd CD more... I would like to get some more of these guys CDs, but they've gone through so many member changes, etc. I can't keep up with it all. A bio on this group would help a lot I think.) Satrianni's Time Machine (I like the live CD more, but again a compliation CD) Yanni's Live at the Marcropolis (good cd) and both Enigma cds (ok group, don't listen to them much, but still ok) Then I have a lot of classical music cds which I listen to some (when I'm in the mood.)
I've seen sooo many albums that I want to buy (like every Rush album) and other like some ELP albums or King Crimson. I don't really know much about these bands and would like some input on which albums to buy. I WOULDN'T like to buy a compliation CD of KC or ELP or Dreggs (or any other prog.band out there) if possible. Also if the group is an import tell me so I'll know where to look (not at Best Buy. :))
thanks for your help guys......
