What steps does one take to subscribe to the DT fanzine? The liner
notes of Awake just give the address, but don't mention anything about
postage, money (cash, checks, MO's), etc. Any help much appreciated.

i have an idea, why don't we all call z-rock from around the country,
no matter where we are, whether or not we get z-rock. it can only
help. it is a free number, and they will be more impressed with people
calling from all over the country than just a few people around dallas.

also, we might request other songs off awake.

believe it or not, zrock has played "ytsejam", "metropolis", and "afterlife"
before, nationwide!! i almost shit when i heard metropolis on the radio.

especially call during "US 240", the 4 hour request show on zrock on saturday.

we need to push lie up in the zrock 50!!!

Tony I don't know if DT got the idea of I&W from QR but their is something
completely different that I have wondered. Te name of Pantera's second album
is Vulgar Display Of Power. I just recently saw the first Exorcist movie and
in it their is a scene that goes something like this:A man says to the
posessed child something like " why don't you just kill us all" then the
possesed child says "I won't, that would be a much too Vulgar Display Of
    Power".
Does anyone know if this is where Pantera got the title idea?
Please let me know. Sorry for the nonDT content.

For those of you getting the Japanese version of Awake, can you
compare the version of Eve to the one that they played as the intro
for LTL on the last tour... Especially compared to the Lost In The
Sky version (I think that that is one of the best version of Eve...
The sound of Eve is almost haunting to me... (it sorta sounds like
the audience chanting... maybe its just me...))

Hey, about this whole omission of Scarred being left off tape. I find that very hard to figure out because from what I know, tapes have more playing time than cd's. I got this from an interview with Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme in GFTPM. On their latest release, "Three Sides To Every Story", one of the tracks (forgot which one) was able to be put on tape, but not on the cd because their wasn't enough time. WEll, go figure!!

Well, I just got the CD today(I have had the tape for the past week) so I may not be giving Scarred a chance(this is defintely one of those songs that takes awhile to get into. Anyway, I am really into the first four songs on the CD.....6:00, Web, IF, and Erotic. I am slowly getting into Space Dye. I had that song going through my head the whole weekend and everybody at work asked me why I looked so depressed!!!!!!

    I think I'll go with...

    1. Scarred 2. Voices 3. Space Dye Vest 4. 6:00

the 4 is really close, I like Erotomainia a lot also.

I wet to a couple record stores last night and was hit with a couple of surprises. First, at Oasis, they had a DT poster hanging up at the counter. It was a large version of the studio shot from the Awake cover. SO I asked if I could have it, and they said it's the only one they had.

So then I went to Sam Goody's, got frustrated because, as usual, they didn't have No Exit, and then, as my friends and I were about to leave, I heard three notes coming over the speakers.

    The Mirror.

So we turned the place into a moshpit for the next 6:45, then left feeling elated, but a little let down cuz they didn't follow it with Lie. Oh well.

Next, Does the length of the CD determine its thickness? This is the only CD that gets stuck in my Car CD player. I has a problem ejecting. Anybody else have this problem. It only happens on this CD. It appears to be thicker. anyone?

Dream Theater will be in Tucson 12/4 and Phoenix 12/5... I will be going to both shows, and hosting a nice gathering on 12/5 before the show at Club Rio (everyone bring your recording devices.. best of show wins a free DT bootleg sampler tape!) This gathering will very likely be at either my own dwelling or at someplace cool that's NEAR Club Rio. I'd almost prefer my place for several hours previous to the show so we have time to check out some bootlegs and so forth. Beer will be a must! I'm hoping you'll all Take The Time to mail me if you live in Phoenix (or Tucson and are going to the show in Phoenix) talk to ya then!

Hi everyone, Just listening to Awake and was just struck by the obvious single. Yup I have the same reaction to this song as everyone else. I love it. Plus it is not heavy at all so there is less chance to alienate the mainstream audience. Space-Dye Vest. What do you think? Sacrilege? Would probably force them to play it in concert.

P.S. for the people getting the Japanese Awake, the single is free floating i.e. not attached to the rest of the case (contained in its own paper bag). I suggest getting one of those nifty 2 CDs in 1 cases that Joe Satriani's Time Machine came in and transferring them. Hmmm I should do this for the Extreme III sides single too.

Well, after listening a few more times, 6:00 is definitely one of my faves on the album. And there are a good amount of keys if you listen. Esp. the kickass keyboard solo in the middle!

the beginning of Erotomania remind anyone else of the Woodstock Jam off Satriani's "The Time Machine"?

and the chordal passage in Voices reminds me of the first song on George Michael's "Listen w/o prejudice" (praying for time).

hmm... well I thought about that too... it'd be so cool to hear SDV on the radio...then I could say the radio plays good music. however, its a) too long, b) not commertial enough (ie, to depressing, sad) c) kev's songs and DT would probably never even think about doing it. :( yeah it sucks...

I guess you could tell Gomer Pyle's (I forget the actor's name) singing voice from his speaking voice too, then I take it? I have to disagree, but you are indeed entitled to your opinion. I guess we'll all find out soon enough once someone can ask at a concert.

I guess it's time to post my faves here.

    1. 6:00 2. Silent Man 3. Lie 4. Scarred or SDV (I'm not sure yet)

Just a thought here. Has anyone else noted that the melody from Innocence Faded and The Silent Man run in the background at various points of Erotomania? I know there were comments previously about The Mirror running somewhere, but I don't remember where. I also found the Wheel of Fortune theme in Scarred that Larry Hartman was talking about.

I have now listened to this disc about 20-30 times and it is starting to replace I&W as my favorite DT disc.

When James sings "It's time to take the time" that is called a hook not a chorus. It is just one line. Too short for a chorus.

Well, I listened to Erotomania and paid particularly close attention at 2:50, and I couldn't really hear Another Day. What I could hear sounded a lot like Another Hand, the piece they played on the last tour to bridge Another Day and the Killing Hand.

Well, I spent two days trying to get at the Mac interactive thing, and finally (with a lot of help that I didn't really understand), I ended up with a Mac executable that ran. It would be pretty cool, except every time it runs, only the upper left quarter is on the screen, the rest can't be seen. I've tried everything, and no luck. Worse yet, if there's a quit option, I can't see it or get to it, so I have to reboot everytime. The last option is that a co-worker of mine is going to try to convert the file into an executable that a Sun can run. Hopefully that will work. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Someone here said they think a different Mac model might run it correctly (I'm on a Mac IIsi). The music is cool in it anyway. I heard Lie, and 2 others from Awake (I don't remember cuz I was concentrating on trying to see the screen).

    well, why not...

    1. SDV 2. Caught in a Web / Voices (tied) 4. The Mirror

I'm also starting to really like Innocence Faded...I think that that and Scarred are the most I&Wish tracks on the disk...

Am I the only who ranks CIAW this highly? I think everything about the song is perfect...the vocal melodies, the chorus, the solo section, the rhythms, everything...

Also, everyone seems to rate this disk as being heavier than I&W...for the most part I'd agree, but I still think the heaviest DT song is Pull Me Under, followed by The Killing Hand from LATM, then the Mirror...

There's a whole bunch of subjects floating around, so I thought I'd just put all of my opinions together.

First of all... Top four songs off the album: 1. SDV 2. 6:00 3. AMBI (I know,I'm cheating -- sosumi) 4. CiaW

Next, I want to point out some 'similarities to other artists/songs.' A pointless exercise, I agree, but one that amuses me nonetheless. In CiaW, the chorus is eerily similar to Styx's 'Love at First Sight' off of Edge of the Century. In the same song, the instrumental guitar part is *very* Steve Morse-ish. And in Erotomania, there is a part towards the end that sort of reminds me of Marty Friedman (speaking of which, his solo album is superb (Scenes, all instrumental).

Just a few more things, I'm already late for class...

I think that it is actually LaBrie on vocals for SDV. After (trying) to sing along with the rest of the album, while the style/voice is different, it still feels the same. (He really is a great vocalist -- incredible power at the highest ranges.)(All IMHO, of course.)

And finally, for all you Seattlites (Seattlians?) ... I've heard (second hand) that the DT show is 11/28 at the Moore Theater (I guess since the Paramount is currently under renovation..). And tickets supposedly go on sale 'Friday,' though whether that's this Friday or what, I dunno.

    Yikes, gotta run (fast)
